HELLO one and all, to Nuka appreciation hour, where I desperately wanna write my trash boy and try desperately to keep my shit together long enough to do just that! If you liked previous starter calls, please feel free to like again! I’m so sorry! Havin’ a rough time and am not intentionally disappearing.
I’ll either send you an IM (to ask about specifics if you’re multimuse), or write you a starter!
Nuka was a jealous creature quite naturally, so of course a little shudder of frustration passed through him - he always seemed to be moving - at the mention of Simba. A father that, although Nuka couldn’t stand (on principle, you understand!), was still a father, one that was present and could give the princess advice.
So, once he was able to shake off that upsetting comparison, he was able to roll his eyes, and force a sarcastic smile. “And what’s that?” He asked with a chuckle, “Don’t trust an Outsider?”

A ‘harrumph!’ of breath and Nuka was padding further from their den of the massive termite mounds, shoulders drawn up and head lowered. Yet again, all Kovu had to do was look up at their mother and it was like Nuka didn’t even exist. Even Vitani was doting on him, all that precious training to look forward to, apparently. (Vitani did always appreciate a good fight, so Nuka tried to assure himself it wasn’t really because it was Kovu)
There wasn’t really anywhere to go and sulk, at least not without the sun burning down on him and the termites crawling across his skin, making it nearly impossible to keep still for long.
But he ended up far enough away that he could hardly see the tip-top of the largest mound, and that needy, childish part of Nuka hoped they noticed, hoped they worried.
It didn’t really matter which one of them had walked far enough to run into one another – Nuka would be the one whose fault it was. That was just kind of how things worked around here - had worked around here since he was a cub. As if his mother wouldn’t be mad enough - he’d lost track of Kovu too.
A jerky shiver worked its way down his body as he watched her, and crouched low in the grass, like he was invisible or something - like the pridelander wouldn’t just be able to smell him. Well. Better to at least try, right?
So I’m sad and I miss this bonehead so, so much. So if you’d like a starter from Nuka from The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, either drop me an IM/ask to plot, or like this and I’ll write you something! It might be short, it might be long, it might be canon or some random song lyric. I’m giving myself artistic liberty to try and make sure I do em.
If you’re a multimuse and you’ve got more than one disney character, please do me a solid and reply with (or im or inbox me!) what character you want this starter for! i’m wildly indecisive and I’ll panic instead of pick.

Sora had known something was up the moment he’d made it to this place. There was something inherently familiar about it that had struck him, and strolled through the hot desert sun to try to confirm his suspicions.
‘Isn’t this…?’
He watched the birds soaring through the bright sky, and off in the distance, spotted tall, gangly forms of reaching for the trees.
‘Giraffes… I knew it!’
He almost wanted to jump for joy, all but bouncing on his heels as he suddenly dashed for an outcropping of boulders to try to get a better look. He bunched the ends of his sleeves in his hands to clamber up the hot surfaces, hoisting himself up with gusto. Once he finally reached the top, his whole body lifted, his smile brightening his usually grim expression.
As far as the eye could see, blue sky stretched out across the horizon. The tall grass rippled in gentle waves as the birds and beasts of savanna foraged for food and drink and safety.
Something in Sora finally unraveled, and not for a long while had he felt so free.
He caught movement out of the corner of his eye, and he dropped down quickly to avoid it. He may have been excited, but he wasn’t stupid. Trying to make contact with wild animals hadn’t exactly been on his to-do list.
Until-
He saw-
-The lion.
He clapped his hands over his mouth to hold in his gasp as he looked out into the grass.
He held stock still from his place up top, trying and failing not to peer carefully over to see what she would do. Of course, in his excitement, he had completely forgotten that is hair was nearly half a foot tall and easily seen from over a surface.
Nuka’s confusion practically burned in his skull for a second as the creature pushed itself up, and he drew himself up a little, puffing that unimpressive chest out as though it’d really make him look any more threatening. Not much did, really, but he had to try.
“Says who? How many lions have you met that don’t talk?” Of course he was offended - who said stuff like that?!
tfw you make an oc purely to ship with a character you already write but cant write fic to save your life so you just basically have two dolls sitting in front of you and you just keep smiling at them waiting for them to do something.
it’s ok kit you can say you made an oc to ship with nuka.
hey y’all, my brain is kicking my whole ass right now bc anxiety, so I can’t for the life of me actually make replies come out the way I want.
if y’all wanna talk or whatever, you can hit me up on discord ( kitkat#3116 ) or Telegram (just im me for the add there!) or smth and I’d be happy to talk or do some low-intensity rp <3 i love you all!
Nuka could kill anything he set his mind to - so he told himself every time he tried, at least. His hesitance to just leave was interrupted- sharply by the sudden shriek, and Nuka actually dropped down to the rock, eyes shut tightly - just long enough for this mystery creature to topple off the rock that Nuka’d just helped him back up on!
Of course, hearing the unpleasant ‘thud! of a body on the plain below made Nuka’s eyes open, and move with a surprising hurry to the edge of the rock, staring down at the body below. He almost expected it to be dead, and frustration flickered inside of him. He’d gone out of his way to help, and it just flung itself off?!
No, not quite that, even he knew. The assurance that it was okay was all the confirmation Nuka needed to clamber his way back down the rocks, hopping the last few steps to save a bit of time. He was back to being cautious as he crept closer though, taking absolute advantage of not being seen to sniff again at the creature he’d saved. And then….scared?
“Who’s a demon?” He asked, a little indignantly. Vitani, maybe. His mother? Definitely.
Okay so after a discussion in Discord, we figured that Nuka was probably originally going to be Scar’s heir, but Nuka would have trouble listening and get easily distracted during royal lessons, which displeased Scar and made it clear that attention deficiency was not at all king-material in his eyes. Nuka’s curious, playful, and rather clueless and immature nature reminded him all too much of his nephew. Scar was going to have to find a new heir if he and Zira could not make one themselves.
So the Pridelands aren’t quite as dry and barren as they were at the climax of the movie, I headcanon Nuka was born around the time where the Pridelands were just starting to lose life. At this stage there would at least be a bit of water and healthy trees left, but not for long.
As for Nuka’s design, he’s not as disheveled and emaciated as he is in the movie because he hadn’t yet become unhealthy from neglect and living in the Outlands. Before his eye-rims became baggy and heart-shaped as they appear in the movie, they used to be like Scar’s.
Also, instead of the sun being in front of Scar and Nuka like it was with Mufasa and Simba, the sun is behind them. I did that to sorta symbolize how backwards/upside down the world became when Scar came into rule.
The butterfly Nuka is chasing is an African Leaf Butterfly, when its wings are folded up, it looks like a dead, fallen leaf, thus giving it its namesake.
If Sora tried reeeeeeeeeeeeally hard, he’d be able to clamber back up over the edge. He was pretty strong, and was used to getting himself out of close scrapes. Plus, his whole upper body was still anchored somewhat securely on the rock. But the fear of having to face the lion in this vulnerable position made his instincts flare, and he mentally scrambled as he looked down to ground. Well, it would hurt if he landed awkwardly, but he would certainly survive if he had to jump right?
But those thoughts flew out the window as he saw the large cat slinking up the rock formation.
Now, this is where normal people would panic. Seeing a huge, starving looking lion crawling towards them would make any sane person start to scramble up and try to run. But Sora wasn’t like other people. Because when he saw the approaching hunter, he knew instantly that he wasn’t going to attack him.
It was instinct, and years of watching these creatures on documentaries and the like. Because while Sora was no longer a predator, those instincts had been a part of him so long that it was second nature to him. A fellow predator could sense a hunt in an instant, and none of this lion’s body language told him it was a hunt.
Which just begged the question: what was he doing?
He kept making a swipe for one of his wrists, making Sora wonder if this was some bizarre hunting attempt, before he finally succeeded in grabbing a sleeve, and proceeding to pull him back over.
And then Sora was so shocked, that for a few seconds he just let the lion pull him back over the edge. ‘Is he… saving me?’
And Sora, though he had seen many incredible things, would never have believed it if he hadn’t seen it himself.
He finally managed to get his legs working again, letting the lion’s strength anchor him until he could get his feet safely from the edge, and back under him again. For a moment he just sat there, watching the poor, scrawny looking lion as he caught his breath and calmed from the scare.
“I… thank you.”
He knew he wouldn’t be able to understand him. But he felt he had to give him something in return.
It was a good sign that it didn’t fight back against Nuka as he pulled, and hopefully that meant that it wasn’t going to attack once it had its feet under it again. Nuka debated just getting out of there before that choice could be made, and he retreated a few steps, wary once more as he was watched.
That tufted tail thwipped around behind him, curiosity overwhelming that initial urge to bolt, and he sniffed a little as he stretched his neck out toward it.
He jumped again as it spoke, eyes wide and those ears perked. He hadn’t expected to be thanked - was even a little surprise it could speak, since it didn’t look like any animal he’d ever seen.
It took Nuka a moment to reply, instead blinking owlishly. And then, finally, trying to sound as dismissive as he’d have liked, he muttered out a, “well, you’re welcome, I guess.” He looked almost bashful.
Cue a young lion cub pouncing off a few rocks and landing right onto Nuka's back
He yowled like his tail’d been trod on by an elephant, and whipped around in an instinctive attempt to send whatever it was flying. Instead, when he caught sight of the fur, there was a frustrated growl that started low in his throat.
