This concept has been rotating in my brain since OP first posted. And Iā€™m still going to fuck it up. But please bear with me.
Thereā€™s this moment in ā€œHope and Fearā€ (no time to rewatch, going off memory here) when Janeway and Seven agree to a plan and, as part of this plan, Janeway needs to access Sevenā€™s eyebrow computer. So Janeway has a filament in her hand and moves to carry out this part of the plan by poking at Sevenā€™s ocular implant (aka eyebrow computer). And Seven flinches. Thereā€™s no dialogue at this point, just Sevenā€™s clear trauma that sheā€™s about to be accessed like a drone, even though Seven agreed to the plan. Because thatā€™s how trauma works. And Janeway (again, no dialogue) backs off, shows her hands including her hold on the filament, and gives Seven a moment to collect herself before they try again because they need to do this thing to escape.
And I just ā€¦ goddamn.
The empathy, the care, the concern, the unspoken acknowledgment and honoring of trauma yet they have to go ahead and do this thing so Janeway will do it as gently as possible.
So, yeah, no dialogue. Not really a quote.
But I keep thinking about it in terms of this post.
Oh Captain, my Captain.
Everyone reblog this with your favorite Janeway quotes, please. šŸ––

Some more asks stolen from an ask game if you fancy any of them:
What is your perfect writing envrionment?
What are your top three most commonly used tags on AO3?
What's something you learned while researching for a fic?
Thank you for the ask, anon! ā¤ļø These make me so happy.
What is your perfect writing envrionment?
Quiet. So much love for yā€™all that write to music or in loud environments. But, as much as possible, I need quiet to be able to write.
What are your top three most commonly used tags on AO3?
I checked and, yeah, this tracks:

What's something you learned while researching for a fic?
I learned a shit-ton about DNA and recovery from bodily immobilization and lack of ability to speak when I was researching The Wounds, They Run Deep, But So Does the Healing, My Love, So Does the Healing (TMP era Christine Chapel/Christopher Pike, E). Also in researching that fic I was reminded of something I already knew: The death of premature baby Patrick Bouvier Kennedy ā€œsparked medical advances that did for the survival of preemies what Sputnik did for the space race.ā€ (source: https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Health/jfk-baby-death-50-years-ago-today-sparked/story?id=19883153) One personā€™s suffering can galvanize others to take positive action, so believing that Chapel would apply her knowledge about genetics to help cure Pikeā€™s delta radiation damage that we know from Lower Decks canon can be treated at The Farm ā€¦ well, I wrote a lot with tears in my eyes for real people and real conditions.

Deeply dispiriting post: testimony from a DOJ antitrust action reveals the entire book publishing industry is celebrity memoirs, established franchise authors like James Patterson, children's books, Bibles, and back catalogues (e.g. Lord of the Rings). Publishing new authors is not even a rounding error; you get the sense it's only done anymore out of a vague sense of obligation, and the moment one of the Big Five decides on the defect strategy, and stops doing that to save a few more bucks, it will end entirely.

Ahhh, I am so touched and excited!!! Thank you so, so much, @pc-corner!!
Yā€™all, when @pc-corner said she would draw anything Pikeuna that I wanted from any of my stories, that moment of Chris joyfully looking at the picture of his wedding with Una was the first thing I thought of ā€¦ but I wanted to give @pc-corner a few options just in case. When she chose that one, my heart fluttered with happiness. šŸ’•

Since Ao3 has temporarily disabled guest comments due to very mean and pornographic bots, now is a very good time for 1) readers with Ao3 accounts to comment on the fics they love and cherish to make up for those who cannot leave guest comments and 2) readers without Ao3 accounts to join the waitlist and make an account!

Lots of people are mentioning this, and saying things like "Don't Like Don't Read" and "stop harassing authors."
And while those are good points...
This is probably a bot invasion, rather than any team of hostile commenters.
The key issue: People were getting comments with porn gifs embedded in them, not just the standard "this reads like chatGPT work" or "join Wəɓį¹†Ćøvā„Æįø¼ now!" posts.
My guess about the plans: Probably looking into turning off image embeds for guest accounts. That'll require adjustments to the code, so guest commenting will probably remain turned off while they figure out how to do that and get it activated.
It's possible that, in the long run, guest comments won't be allowed at all, because eventually the spam content will overwhelm the servers. It's not doing that yet, but AO3 is not shrinking and neither is bot activity.
...If you don't have an account, apply for an invitation. If you have an account and don't want to use it for commenting, apply for an invite with a secondary email account.
Because unless there's a nice widespread change in either law or legal rulings, the spambots will continue to grow unrestricted, and the result is going to be "sites that want an active community will need to become login only."
(About half of all emails in the world are spam. About 40% of all internet activity is bots. And so far, the regulator reaction to that has been, "well, lock down access so the bots can't get in" rather than "whoever is draining all those server resources is committing crimes.")
AO3 will figure something out. That something is likely to involve restrictions on guest activity, because that's the only way to block the bots.

Absolutely amazing how AO3 is a part of the internet that doesn't sneak in any ads and doesn't have an algorithm and doesn't watch you or record how much time you spend looking at each fic or whatever. It's just right there to use for free. Legend

people are way too comfortable being dismissive of children and teenagers. if a toddler comes up to you and starts explaining skibidi toilet lore or if a 13 year old asks you if you want to hear about their mha ocs you have to listen with utmost sincerity or at least pretend to. this is the only way you will get into heaven.

writers and artists will go "this isn't good enough." my brother in christ, you're creating something new out of nothing and expressing yourself creatively. your productivity and unrealistic standards of perfection do not define you or the worth of your art. you're doing great.

Do you ever see something like this:

and think, "This'll be a fun little thing to read while I wait."
And then you read it and you're fundamentally changed as a person and you're left staring off into the middle distance as you contemplate life and love and connection and what it all means?
