hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate

been trying to put into words without invalidation how our experiences differ

unfinished thoughts still but

in terms of ways I've hurt you, there are probably a couple tangible things like when i would call you names early on

which I would define as a hurtful action bc the action by itself is hurtful

with context it softens the harshness bc there is explanation as to why someone would be reduced to such harmful measures, but the action itself is hurtful

thinking about the impact is also important because from your POV it would have felt undeserved

impact is just as important as intent

then there is that time I was hurt by your inability to take care of someone sick

that is what I would call an action that is not a straightforward hurt, but would be and can be seen as hurtful with the context

notice I am only examining times where i have been the instigator slash times it was my experience bc i look at myself before I look at others

bc I don't have the right to start criticising others when I havent examined myself either so while I will criticise others, I can't leave myself out of it I am no saint in any way

and I think one of the reasons I always say you don't understand your impact is because our experiences ARE very different in many ways and you are always looking for faults outwardly or in me before you take accountability for yourself

if you often approached things by owning up to your own faults and being accountable for you, i wouldn't feel the need to point them out

basically you may feel like I minimise your experience because I feel I need to combat and counteract your constant finding of fault in me and a lack of accountability in yourself 70/30

The way you change your immediate reactions to things is that you catch yourself having an uncharitable/bigoted/overly judgmental thought and you catch it and replace it and then you do that a hundred times a day for your whole life and eventually one day like five years later you realize that you think differently now and you’ll always be working on something but that’s how life goes and that’s fine.

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.
