so I'm very much a visual novel person (as you can probably tell from my main blog) and as a game dev I have a special place in my heart for older indie VNs, back when the software wasn't great and indie game dev wasn't easy to learn. I also really love doujinshi—it takes a lot of passion to have that much skill and resources and you put it towards making fan creations, especially when they're physical.

that is to say, fan games—and especially physical fan games—are really, really cool to me. so naturally when I found a 2010 d.gray-man fan visual novel got a physical release, I got really, really excited.

apparently Strange house is a visual novel (also sometimes called sound novels, which is how the listing called it) released August 22nd 2010 about Kanda and Lavi on a mission to a house. I wasn't able to find out much more info as the website for the developer, Moonlight Cafe, is now defunct and basically no english site had mentioned this creator before despite apparently making several dgm fangames with physical releases.

the artist is still online with their twitter active last (2023) december, but it looks like they've mostly moved on from their game dev & dgm days. (if you have more info on this VN or the other ones they've made, please let me know!!)

the visual novel looks like it uses more CGs than sprites (CGs are like cut scene art, sprites are the images that change expressions/poses) which is a bit surprising to me since I kinda wanted to see how other VN devs would design sprites for the boys. there was also no mention of the rating / content aside from kanda in a bridal dress so...

the artwork and presentation looks really nice though, especially for 2010, so I'm excited to see what it looks like in person! ...yes, of course I bought this disc as soon as I saw it and will liveblog it once it comes in!!

the seller mentioned that they bought it mainly to look at the guide book, which isn't surprising since it's basically an artbook of the boys.

I'm not great at JP and I haven't tried translating these pages, but I do plan to scan them in once this game comes in the mail. all of the images I've shown are from the seller as I don't have the game yet.

so, yeah! I'm super excited to see more of this game and possibly find listings of this dev's other physical copies (I have my eye on 1 right now). I'll also consider reaching out to the dev on twitter for permission to upload the game online if I'm able to extract it, though I won't post it publicly if I can't get their permission. I think this is a pretty cool piece of fandom history so at the very least I want to document it a bit more for us english fans.

They're doing their makeup in the bathroom and talking about life and anger and revenge!!!

Lenalee can't help but envy how Alma got to exact violent comeuppance on the people that hurt them and Alma respects Lenalee immensely for not giving into her rage and protecting rather than hurting.

Also they tell each other all of Yuu's embarrassing childhood stories for shits and giggles. Because they know all of them.

Application Form - Closing 18th of November

It's here! You can now access the Application Form for the DGM 20th Anniversary redraw.

In this form, you will be able to apply for four roles :

-Page artist (for redrawing the regular pages) -Cover artist (for the covers and chapter illustrations) -Doodle Artist (to do a bonus doodle at the end of the zine) -Writer (to write a few words about what DGM is to you or whatever else you come up with) You may apply for however many roles or pages you'd like! You'll have 5 months (from December to April) to complete your piece(s) once the assignments are out. Once you have completed the Application Form we will send you a link to the Discord server of the project, so please, make sure you write the correct email and discord handle! If we haven't contacted you before the closing date of the application form on the 18th of November, please, send us a PM! If you're unsure about your English level, mods fluently speak English, French, Spanish and Japanese and other contributors will surely be able to help you for other languages. D.Gray Man 20 years anniversary

That's right, next 31 May 2024, D.Gray man will be 20 years old. As a celebration, I would like to do a fandom project : a redraw of the first chapter. Which mean, many artists coming together, drawing each a page of the first chapter in their own style.

The first chapter is about 55 pages long, that's a lot, so here's an interest check to see if the project would be possible !

Some things you may want to know if there is enough interest to begin the project :

This project would be free to download once finished, we're not going to sell anything from this, it will be just for fun, a tribute to the manga.

Discord will be needed to talk with each others as it's a big project

You can do whatever you want with your pages as soon as the story/dialogue are respected. B&W, colour, scrap booking, painting... go wild!

You'll be free to choose 3 pages you would like to draw, hopefully this way, everyone will be able to do one page they want!

If we have (shockingly) way more than 50 artists interested in participating, we'll do the whole first tome!

Old fan, new fan, seasoned artists or determined beginner, everyone's welcome !

This idea came from the @conanredraw go see it if you want a better idea of the project ! The whole result isn't out yet, but it'll be soon.

How did this happen???

How did Alma get his scar? Simple question right? WRONG! He's got an artificial body, he can't scar!

We've seen Alma and Kanda tear each other apart and a half hour later be totally fine, not even a bruise. So how did Alma get a scar on his face?

Is it leftover from how his original body died? Like the theory that birthmarks represent how you die in a past life. Did the Order scar his body by accident before the healing ability kicked in, like when he was still in the pool?

I know it's probably just aesthetic but I want an answer!

Love rewatching DGM because every time I do I notice somthing new

I'm making an Alma cosplay because I'm stupid and want a complicated cosplay.

Anyway should I post how I make it? I feel bad not being active and want to post stuff

Wow its been a while since I was active, but the ask game has called me back! Since there was no character attached to this I'm just going to do whoever comes to mind

Allen: Ive said this before and I'll say it again. Allen loves street music! Random street performers singing or playing their heart out, yeah that's the good stuff.

Kanda: If he's alone or meditating with Lenalee than any relaxing background music is fine. However if Allen or Lavi or anyone else decides to bother him than Kanda will blast any metal or screamo music to both drown them out and annoy them until they leave him alone. Dosnt really care for the music it's self, he just uses whatever music is convenient for the situation.

Lenalee: pop? Jazz? Country? Rock? Sure! She will listen to anything. Her favorite songs are the ones her friends show her because she knows the songs make them happy. She does lean more towards happy songs but dosnt care much about genre.

Lavi: Weird history songs like ' we didn't start the fire' or 'the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald'. He likes to laugh about how inaccurate they really are because bookman know the true history.

Kmoui: it does not matter you can not hear it over the sound of his machines. He will listen to whatever the others in the science section like, and will listen to it on repeat until it's stuck in his head. Once the song is stuck it will play in his head while he works. So no radio required for his music because he cant hear it anyway!

Tyki: he actually really enjoys those working shanty songs. The ones everyone he know when he was 'light' would sing together on a job. Actually kind of similar to Allen now that I think about it. Reminds him of simpler times.

The Earl: This. Cutsy pop songs. My reasoning? There is none, I just know this in my bones. However he does play a lot of classical music too.

Jerry: I could go with the stereotype that he listens to heavy metal because he's a chef, but I don't really think he cares much on the type of music as long as it has a good beat he can vibe with. Yeah lyrics and genre don't matter, just the tempo.

Cross: Smooth music. Either classic or soft jazz. Not a fan of anything too pitchy though, so no flutes generally.

General Socalo: The screams of his victim is the only music he needs.

Daisya: local music. He will find a local band or singer in every town he visits. He loves discovering new sounds unique to an area, makes him feel more like he's on an adventure!
