“I wanted to thank you for the beautiful herb drying rack. When we opened the box and saw it, and the little card, and knowing about the care your dad took with stuff, i just burst into tears. It's a fantastic gift and we will treasure it for years to come. It looks so great in the kitchen!” -Two Dadcore Friends, Jenni & Joe

Quote
The thing is you can find all the right words to describe the suffering. Yet, no matter how well someone understands, no one can do anything to help. It is a thing of patience. It must be waited out.

I am lucky to have a sister that I can also call my best friend. I understood her when no one else could make out her lisp when she was younger, and now she understands me. Almost always.

Olivia of The Lovely Sisters recently sent me a lovely message about my Dad. She said:
"…for some reason, when I close my eyes to think about what I want, I think about your dad and how he had way way too short of a time here on earth. His smile was indeed infectious! In an odd way, his smile is helping me make some big decisions."
And I can't help but smile because I think of some of the big decisions Dad helped me make while he was alive and the decisions I make now with him in mind.

The Dead by Billy Collins
The dead are always looking down on us, they say,
while we are putting on our shoes or making a sandwich,
they are looking down through the glass bottom boats of heaven
as they row themselves slowly through eternity.
They watch the tops of our heads moving below on earth,
and when we lie down in a field or on a couch,
drugged perhaps by the hum of a long afternoon,
they think we are looking back at them,
which makes them lift their oars and fall silent
and wait, like parents, for us to close our eyes.

Three years ago this week I made my daily lunch break call to my Dad, little did I know it was one of my last. He told me he had just had a check-up doctor’s appointment and because he had been having back pain they did scans and found tumors on his pancreas but they did know if they were...

Dadcore Advice from UM
Me: How difficult is it to use Dad's woodworking shop to build a farmhouse table?
UM: Stop right there. The only way to learn is to do it, so stop asking questions about how difficult it would be and do it. We all made mistakes our first couple of times, most can be repaired. Do it, call me if you get stuck or if you make major mistakes.
