Okay, I think I need to reread the whole manga before theorizing my head off, but here are some things I noticed in the chapter.
Right off the bat… are we seriously going to ignore this text? No backstory but put in some ominous PTSD text? I have a feeling Yana saying that she knows we want backstory but she’s holding it back to build up the suspense of this mission. Also I felt like the chapter title didn’t really make any sense, but they rarely do.
Bardroy is more immediately suspicious and ready to resort to violence than any of the other servants. You may say “HHKC, we know. He’s a veteran” and yeah, but the reason I point it out is because he’s never really had much of this reaction in a fight before. He’s also never been cornered like this, but even in the green witch forest battle, he was still more jovial. It shows that for Bardroy, he feels more comfortable with strength in numbers and his view of killing as necessity here shows that his jovial battle persona is only real when he knows he’s winning. His mind has probably been weathered by darker places than we know, so seeing his reaction to truly being in danger is interesting.
Aside from the debate about what the tattoo is, what respectable physician has a tattoo? If Ada or any of these other hazmat people are with the Star lords, they’re probably already suspicious and/or onto them. (Unrelated: love me some buff Bardroy. Not an absolute beefcake like Wolfram, but still great.)
Speaking of, let’s talk about our girl Ada. Besides her main job making the wlw of the fandom fall in love with her in two seconds, she works as the chief nurse of the sanatorium. Her haircut is extremely unusual for the time period. Could be that she originally crossdressed to be a soldier or military medic. Second, the hazmat suits seem a little advanced for the time period. Like the Aurora Society, having more advance gear supports the theory that they’re in cahoots with UT. I wonder where her scars came from… maybe we’ll see, maybe not. She’s probably going to die, so let’s maybe not get attached.
Lastly, Ron. It’s nice to see him undercover seeing as he’s the one of our main reaper cast who blends in the most with humans. As discussed by others, his presence here means death is coming. My theory, which y’all know, is that Bard will have a PTSD trigger episode, resulting in an explosion with multiple deaths. That’d explain why Ron would be here, even if the Sanatorium isn’t involved with Undertaker. If it is, he could be here because the dispatch is looking into undertaker and trying to catch him before he breaks the thin border between life and death.
Aside from his presence, this underlined part of text actually tells us a lot more than we expected. Him being in charge of “Mr. Burgh” tells us a couple things: Ronald successfully blends in as a doctor and may even have his own medical knowledge (we don’t know what his profession in life was before he became a reaper) and that there are, most likely, multiple doctors in staff at the sanatorium. A couple of things it could hint at: If Ronald picks his patients rather than them being assigned, he may have leads connecting them to Ciel and Sebastian. He obviously knows who Ciel and Sebastian are, and seeing how the reapers in Germany, away in the mainland, have information on Ciel, I don’t doubt that the dispatch could track down who is involved with the demon and contractee. If we receive Bard’s backstory, I’m curious to see whether Bard recognizes that Sebastian is not human and if he does, whether he will recognize the same about Ron. He’s very suspicious and more observant than we give him credit for, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s fully aware of the supernatural but chooses not to disclose that to others. I’m really looking forward to where this Wiltshire arc is going.
Something
that Hazel to Oz really stood out to me.
“Stop lying! Salem can’t be killed. When she
came for me, I killed her over and over again. The longest she was gone was
only a few hours. Before she put herself back together…”
Huh.
When
Salem tried to kill herself back in the Lost Memory episode—y’know when she
stabbed herself with the knife—she came back instantly.
When
Ozma killed Salem in the Lost Fable during his lifetime as Diggs, he
reincarnated within a matter of minutes.
But
when Hazel killed her over and over again, the longest she was gone was a few
hours.
From
instantly to a few minutes to a matter of hours…? I understand that Salem can’t
be killed but is it just me or does the time it takes for Salem to reincarnate
herself getting longer and longer with each death?
So
even if Salem can’t be stopped, it is noticeable that the amount of time she
takes to come back is getting longer.
So…imagine if…Salem is attacked repeatedly by multiple people and they
just keep killing her over and over again, not really giving her a chance to
come back especially if it takes her longer to
revive each time?
This also ties into something Oscar said in RWBY V8CH6:
“…Salem knows she can’t take on the whole world at once. So she doesn’t….”
I
dunno. I could be wrong in my assumption here but I found it very interesting
that Hazel mentioned how long it took for Salem to be revived. And if I know
these showrunners, why mention that small detail if it wasn’t going to become relevant?
Salem
can’t be killed but…perhaps…there may be a way to stop her if…she is stopped somewhere
between time it takes for her to reincarnate?
I
was talking to @jealouscartoonist and JC brought up a very interesting point
about…what if…Ruby petrified Salem with her Silver Eyes.
Not necessarily killing
her but…imagine if…Ruby turned Salem to stone at the point of her putting
herself back together? Thus Salem is never allowed the time to piece herself back
together since Ruby would’ve frozen her in place at that particular point.
Therefore trapping Salem in stone forever?
If
it DOES take her longer to put herself back together before being fully
revived, then maybe…there IS a way for Salem to be stopped. Not KILLED but at
least stopped?
Salem can’t fight or be a problem to society if she’s encased in stone, right? And who knows? Perhaps…a couple of years trapped in stone with nothing but her own thoughts might force Salem to finally come to terms with the error of her ways finally.
I
dunno. Just something I observed from this episode. Again, I could be wrong in
my assumption. it’s just that point that Hazel made REALLY stuck out to me.

I am so happy my theory about Salem wanting to just see the end was right.
She already tried to live her life with Ozma. He left because she is cuckoo for coco pops. Now she is stuck in a eternal deadlock with Ozma where neither player can advance or retreat. She is trying to die.
She probably thinks resetting the board completely would allow her to start over her life and she will be free from her curse. But knowing these gods they might just take humanity and leave her behind.
She still hasn’t learned anything….
I also enjoyed confirmation that Hazel has already tried to kill Salem. I imagine he killed her a dozen times in rage and she let him. Until he was weak and vulnerable and then told him Ozpin was the problem.

Your daily reminder that Black Lives Still Fucking Matter. Casey Christian Goodson Jr. was mudered by police on December 4th and no one is talking about it. He was shot three times in the back entering his own home. The police are not going to get any better under Joe Biden, in fact, they will continue to get worse because there will be less media scrutiny. There is little to no media coverage of this story because of that very reason. We have to keep these stories in the public eye and continue to fight to defund the police just as hard in 2021.
Here’s a link to the full story from one of the few media sources reporting it.
Just found a petition. So far it has less than 5,000 signatures. Sign here:
It should not be that low. White middle class liberals don’t actually care about Black Lives Matter, which they are proving with their disinterest of all police shootings since Joe Biden was elected.
His family has organized a GoFundMe to help with the cost of his burial, and also has a CashApp and Venmo to donate to. If you want to donate to help the family, donate via one of these options and not to Change.org. Taken from the People’s Justice Project facebook page:
Q: Oz, if you could change one thing in your life… What would you change? Would you decide not to save Salem? Or not to tell her about the task of the God of Light? Or maybe something later?
This photo is so crazy bc the guy on the left robbed the guy on the right at gunpoint or whatever and in the process realized he was robbing people bc he was repressing his gay feelings and they started dating and now they’re like married or something
I love Oscar so much. That scene may have been hard to watch but I am so happy that he blatantly told Salem to fuck off in a Ozpin tone of voice. Granted, she snatched him but he was still strong will and did not completely crack in the face of fear. I just hope he stays strong.
Honestly the fact that Ren knew Jaune cheated his way into Beacon and never said anything about it or made Jaune feel like he could never be a leader is very telling and proof that Jaune and Ren are really BFFs. Granted we don’t know when Jaune told Ren he cheated but the fact that Ren only brought it up when he was telling Yang how in over their heads they are is really telling.
