Oats, specifically rolled oats and instant porridge oats, are okay for ducks to eat!
Some other things they can eat which isn't in the original post is corn, peas, chopped grapes, broccoli and chopped greens are also good for them!
Hope this helps, friend!
Its Almost Waterfowl Season!
And here is your reminder to not feed them bread
Bread has no nutritional value to ducks, yet it makes them feel full and takes place of their natural diet. If we constantly feed ducks bread, they’ll end up lacking essential nutrients and with a range of problems, one of which is angel wing. The high calorie nutrient-deficient diet causes wing deformities and hinders flying. And, in some cases can stop ducks flying completely. It also shortens their life span.
So please, if you want to feed ducks/waterfowl, go out and buy some proper feed.

Horned Screamer
Aside from their strange horns, these birds also possess some interesting anatomy below the surface. Inside their bones and skin are tons of tiny air sacs that reduce the weight of these large birds, which is thought to help them soar long distances without using muscle energy. These air sacs sometimes collapse simultaneously when the horned screamer takes off, creating a loud crackling noise.

hello friend!
do you have any facts about ground parrots? Kākāpōs are cool :)
Thank you!!!
On another Kakapo kick again I see? here you go buddy.
When it comes to birds, kakapos are at the top of their weight class. Adult males weigh more than four pounds (2 kilograms), and they're about two feet (. 6 meters) long. On average, males weigh about 4.4 to 8 pounds (2 to 4 kilograms) and females weigh 2.2 to 5.5 pounds (1 to 2.5 kilograms)
Kakapos like many parrots are quite long lived. They can live as long as 90-100 years with an average life span of 60 years.
Male kakapos have a large thoracic air sac which they are able to inflate to make their loud booming noises. If the air is still enough, the sound can be heard from as far as 3 miles (5 kilometers) away.
Hope you like 'em! Have a good day friend.

hi pal, you should read up on the Horned Screamer!!! its a bonkers bird that i really love! if you got facts to drop, i'd love to hear 'em :))
Hiya! They really are some interesting birds, thank you for bringing them to my attention!
Here are some interesting facts I found;
Over the course of their lives, these birds grow long, white spines of cartilage in the middle of their foreheads. Some birds possess horns approaching six inches in length. The spine is brittle and is known to snap off if it grows to be too long, but it does grow back eventually.
While their horn is harmless, the Screamer certainly isn’t. On each wing Screamers have a bone spur, which they use to do battle with each other, generally during mating season. Scientists have even found pieces of spur broken off and lodged in other birds' chest like shrapnel.
Horned screamers pair for life, or for at least several years. Pairs stay together throughout the year, seeking isolation in marshy areas in late winter and early spring to trumpet in duets.
I got one more but I'll save that one for a separate post ;)

It is not just for ducks but also for all waterfowl! I do not think it is mentioned in any of the links (unless I totally missed it) but feeding waterfowl bread can also cause angel wing which is fatal in almost all cases!!!

A reminder for those of us with cats at Easter that lilies of ANY kind are BAD for cats. Some species such as Calla, Peace and Peruvian do not cause kidney damage or death like Easter and daylilies, but they can still cause irritation and gastrointestinal issues if ingested...

Another year another day of frogs :]
Happy World Frog Day!!!
Let’s get a hop, hop, hooray for our hopping friends!
Let’s celebrate by learning some cool facts about our froggy friends!
Our first pal is the largest frog in the world, the Goliath Frog from West Africa! These big friends can grow up to 13 inches (32cm) and weigh up to 7 pounds (3.25kg)! They also lack a vocal sack so they do not produce a mating call, which is a feature that most frogs and toads have.
Our next friends are some of my favourite frogs, the Glass Frogs from South America! Some species of Glass frogs have translucent bellies and chests that make their viscera visible, exposing someone to view their hearts pumping blood through their body and even food moving through their gut. This translucency is a type of camouflage, believe it or not. With their body being see through it helps them blend in both dark and light places, this is called edge diffusion, it softens the line separating the colour of a frog’s skin from the colour of their background!
And our last friend is the smallest frog in the world! Paedophryne amauensis is endemic from Papua New Guinea. It is 0.30 inches (7.7mm) and is said to be the worlds smallest known vertebrate. This frog lives on land and its life cycle does not include a tadpole stage, instead, members of this species hatch as ‘hoppers’: which look like miniatures of the adults!
Hope you learned something interesting, cool, or new! Have a wonderful day my friends! <3

Piping Plovers
Despite traveling hundreds of miles between wintering and breeding sites, many Piping Plovers return to the same sites to breed and to spend the winter. Individuals that return to breed with the same mate often nest within 128 feet of the previous nest site. Birds breeding in the Great Lakes spend the winter in South Carolina and Georgia, whereas most birds from eastern Canada head to North Carolina for the winter.

HII!! Do you have manaties facts?
Manatees? Of course! Sorry for the late response but the semester just started and I have been quite ill haha anyway, here you go my friend!
Because they are mammals, they must surface to breathe air. They may rest submerged at the bottom or just below the surface of the water, coming up to breathe on an average of every three to five minutes. When manatees are using a great deal of energy, they may surface to breathe as often as every 30 seconds. When resting, manatees have been known to stay submerged for up to 20 minutes.
Manatees can swim up to 20 miles per hour in short bursts, but they usually only swim about three to five miles per hour.
In spite of their size, manatees have relatively little body fat, and their metabolic rate is low compared to other marine mammals. Manatees cannot tolerate temperatures below 68° F (20° C) for long periods of time. Researchers believe that individuals affected by the cold cannot produce enough metabolic heat to make up for heat loss in the environment. Because of their susceptibility to the cold, the space or range that manatees require is influenced by seasonal change. Florida manatees are considered to be somewhat migratory animals.
Hope you learned something new! have a wonderful day my friend!

hello my friend! do you have any facts about extinct or ancient animals? thank you for what you do!
I unfortunately do not have any information on ancient and extinct animals save for a few thylacine facts as I do not specialize in extinct animals. I will provide the few I know, however my friend over at @paleopalsfacts may have what you are looking for :)
The Tasmanian tiger, also called Tasmanian wolf and thylacine, was neither a tiger nor a wolf, but a marsupial, and closely related to the Tasmanian devil. The last known Tasmanian tiger died in 1936
Fossil evidence suggests that the modern thylacine — Thylacinus cynocephalus, whose name means "dog-headed pouched one" — emerged about 4 million years ago. Once widespread across Australia, the animal disappeared everywhere except Tasmania about 2,000 years ago, according to the National Museum of Australia (NMA). The disappearance was likely due to competition with dingos. Modern people discovered the animal in Tasmania, thus its name.
good luck! and have a wonderful day, my friend.

Hi! Do you have some facts about cats? c:
Why are the little fellas like that?
What kind of cat parent would I be if I didn't have facts about those precious felines? Of course I do!
Just like us people, cats can have a dominant paw.
The oldest known pet cat existed around 9,500 years ago. In 2004, a French archeologist found a grave of a cat in Cyprus dating back to 9,500 years ago, meaning that humans have owned cats as pets since then!
Cats also have an additional tool to enhance their sense of smell. Cats have a special organ called Jacobson's organ (or the vomeronasal organ) that is located inside the nasal cavity and opens into the roof of the mouth, right behind the upper incisors.
I would've added a photo of my little helper but she wasn't feeling very photogenic, apologies. Hope these facts are purrfect for you!

I love telling people animal facts! And this page is exactly what I need. I'm following. Do you have facts about barn owls?
Thank you my friend! and of course!
They have lopsided ears designed for listening. This unique adaptation allows the owl to determine what height a sound is coming from, as well as the direction. Asymmetrical ears send the sounds to the brain with two slightly different signals that allow owls to pinpoint the source.
The primary prey of these owls are small mammals like rats, mice, bats, rabbits, and other rodents. They also eat birds like Starlings, Blackbirds, and Meadowlarks. Since most of their prey feed on seeds and fruits, they rid their surrounding areas of common threats to crops.
The range of habitats that these birds can be found in is truly spectacular. They can be found in grasslands, marshes, fields, deserts, forests, woodlots, brush, ranches, suburbs, and cities. Their versatility in adapting to new environments is a big reason behind their widespread presence.
Hope these are satisfactory! Have a wonderful day and welcome to the blog <3

hey there! it’s been a really long time since i’ve been on tumblr, but i still have the notifications on for your blog. i appreciate what you do. could i request a lovely fact or two for garden eels? thank you <3
Oh my goodness, that means so much my friend wowie. I will admit im not as on top of it as I used to be, but I do try my best and wow just wow <3 <3 <3 (and I'll do you one better and give you 3 ;] )
Each eel has their own burrow within a colony of several hundred. Poking above the sea floor, these tiny tubular animals can look like seagrass to predators. They can measure up to almost 16 inches long, and are about as wide as a drinking straw, but because of their skittish nature, they rarely extend above the sand beyond a couple inches. When they do extend, it’s to catch drifting zooplankton to have as a meal, then they retreat back into their holes.
Spotted garden eels are pelagic spawners: they releases fertilized eggs into water; the eggs float near the surface until hatched.
Juvenile Spotted garden eels are entirely black.
Hope these satisfy your need for knowledge! Have a wonderful day my friend <3

any isopod? deep sea, rubber ducky, roly-poly, whatever!! :D
Of course my friend! Sorry for the wait, finals are coming up :P but are you ready for some incredible isopods!!!?!?!
Giant Isopods are scavengers, and rely on food falling from higher in the water column; for example, parts of decaying marine animals closer to the surface of the ocean that drift down towards the sea bed. This decaying material is known as ‘marine snow’ and is what isopods feed on. Due to the lack of light, it is rare to find any other type of food on the ocean floor. The nature of marine snow means that it can be hard to come by, and isopods have adapted to patiently wait for the nourishment they need to survive, meaning they have an extremely slow metabolism and are always in a state of semi-hibernation. An isopod kept in captivity in Japan was observed to last for five years without feeding. They conserve their vital energy only for necessary movement and respiration.
Rubber Ducky Isopods are also known to be great at adapting to different environments. They can survive in a variety of conditions, from dry to damp and from hot to cold. They have a high tolerance for environmental changes. That’s why they can survive in a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels
Pill bugs (Roly-Polys) breathe with gills, like their ancestors. While gills are great in the water, they are not ideal on land because they can dry out. To preserve moisture and avoid desiccation, pill bugs are active at night and spend the daylight hours in wet, damp areas under things like logs, mulch, and stones, where they can roll into a ball to protect any moisture they have on their gills.
Those are the three you mentioned so those are the three you shall get :) Hope you learned something new! Have a wonderful day my friend!

Coati
Of course my friend!
The coatimundi, or coati, is a member of the raccoon family found from Arizona to South America. It has a long snout with a flexible nose which it uses to root in the soil for grubs and other invertebrates.
Female and baby coatis eat, sleep, and travel in packs of about 30. At age two, males leave to live on their own. In groups these animals are chatty—they click, grunt, whistle, and bark as they forage for food. So while it may not be as well known as its raccoon relatives, the coati definitely lets you know it's there.
Equipped with powerful claws, swivelling ankles and a long tail for balance, coatis are adept climbers. They are equally at home searching for food on the ground, in the treetops or on cliff faces, allowing them to access a huge variety of resources throughout the year. They are also able to survive high altitutes of over 2,500 metres (8k feet).
