I made it through season 5. I may have finally become desensitized to the wild medical inaccuracies in House. My face is in a permanent state of 😵‍💫🤨🤦🏻‍♀️ when it’s on but I’ve mostly stopped twitching.
Kind of funny to see so many familiar actors from other shows. I know they were all filmed in the same general area, there’s just so many people I recognize as other characters in other shows.

Idk if anyone is actually wondering about what's going on with Watcher's Patreon but I figure that as a long time Patreon supporter and a person interested in facts, I could shed a little light.
On the day of the streaming site announcement, they posted a very long post explaining in detail what changes the Patreon will go though and why. They outlined the new reward tiers and told the patrons the changes would take effect on 4/22. They also thanked everyone for their support and said that they would understand if people couldn't support the Patreon and the streaming site. They offered a 40% discount on the streaming site.
They also posted the final Watcher Weekly +, which will not be continuing. It will be replaced by PodWatcher +, which I understand to be an extension of regular PodWatcher.
They also posted a slate for the new streamer, stating "we don't want anyone to feel like they're making a blind decision"
For a few days there was nothing, then today (4/21) there was a (suspected to be) scheduled post reminding everyone of the changes to reward tiers.
About an hour later, they posted saying that the podcast would be postponed this week, and they hope we understand, and they are excited to share the episodes with us. The comments were disabled on this post only.
Okay that's the facts.
It needs to be said that there are a few patrons commenting that they are upset about paying a year membership and then having the reward tiers changed to things they don't care about, and that is totally valid. Watcher or Patreon needs to refund these people ASAP, and in my opinion information about refunds for annual subscriptions should have been brought up by the Watcher team. This is really the only criticism I've seen on the Patreon that hasn't been shared a hundred times already, that's why I'm stating it here.
I've seen a lot of exaggeration and speculation on the state of the Patreon, so I just thought I would add some perspective. I've also seen some saying that they are "silencing critique" by disabling comments on the most recent Patreon post. Which is silly, the comments on the other posts they've made this week are still open and there are plenty of negative comments there. Some positive ones too.

smth i haven't seen anyone else bring up w the watcher shit that i think is important.
maybe im just old, but they seem to have forgotten that youtube itself literally pulled this stunt with youtube red. an entire subscription service specifically made to give youtubers a huge budget to make "tv quality shows" & movies.
& what happened w that?
it got shut down bc nobody fucking wanted that garbage.
& when it did get shut down, all youtube red content was released to the public for free & the consensus remained "yeah this was never worth a paywall."
when will it get through these kinds of ppl's thick, greedy skulls that we consume internet content bc it's NOT overproduced, disingenuous, corporate garbage.
im just so fucking sick of this shit, bruh. youtube red was YEARS ago. & it was offered through the incentive of MULTIPLE vastly popular channels producing content for it. & STILL failed bc even with wanting to support the creators they loved, nobody fucking wanted "tv quality content" from them back then. & that has not fucking changed.
be fucking serious. you have a show called puppet history yet you fucking repeat the historically bad mistakes of your greedy predecessors. fuck you.

Literally the 2nd time ever posting on here, but I’m just dumbfounded by the many different avenues they could’ve actually taken before coming to this!

I watched Charlie MoistCritikal’s video on the Watcher drama and he definitely has some good insight considering he runs a company that helps creators get sponsorships, and finding out that with their subscriber & view counts they probably get $15,000-$30,000 per ad read was like the final nail in the coffin for me. So they make $100k a month on patreon + an ad read a week + ad revenue + merch sales? Maybe slow down on making new shows. Cultivate what you have. Maybe remaking worth it… isn’t worth it.
(Charlie’s video is good if you want some deeper insight into the creator economy)

My nuanced opinion is this: they're not the most evilest greediest capitalist pig dogs to ever exist let's get out the guillotine etc etc, HOWEVER Watcher TV is still the dumbest fucking decision they could have possibly made

I got a fish book from the library and I just think everyone should know that archerfish aka the guys that spit jets of water at bugs to knock them off plants and eat them aka these guys-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-are a social species (like a lot of fish), and that the jet spitting is actually a learned behavior rather than one they just do instinctually. They have to watch older members of their social groups do it a bunch of times (like up to thousands) before they're able to successfully do it themselves. If you take a young one and isolate it from its species, they just never get good at it (they also catch prey like "normal" fish tho, so an archerfish that can't archer won't starve just bc of that)
When they do learn to do it tho, they can compensate for light refraction, vary how much water they spit based on the size of the insect they're aiming for, and will learn to shoot insects that are midflight by spitting in the bug's flight path rather than where the bug actually is

idk who needs to hear this but when your english teacher asks you to explain why an author chose to use a specific metaphor or literary device, it’s not because you won’t be able to function in real-world society without the essential knowledge of gatsby’s green light or whatever, it’s because that process develops your abilities to parse a text for meaning and fill in gaps in information by yourself, and if you’re wondering what happens when you DON’T develop an adult level of reading comprehension, look no further than the dizzying array of examples right here on tumblr dot com
