This blew up a few years ago, and since then many people have written touching anecdotes and musings on their own lives in the tags, all of which I appreciate immensely. However my favorite tag I've gotten on this post is one from shortly after it was posted; when I was sixteen. It said something like, "It's wonderful to see Mabel Ye's influence on young artists!" That was the only person to ever point out my inspiration for both the linework and writing, despite how crude an imitation it was. I don't really like this comic anymore. I think it's cute, but also a bit thoughtless and naive. But I'm still glad it seems to have touched so many people.
In the time that passed between this comic and now, Mabel directed a Netflix show and won an Emmy. She will always be one of the most formative artists in my life.
Since then I've made a lot of art, and I've fallen in love. There are many things I'd tell this version of myself if I had the chance.
Okay, that concludes my train of thought. Thanks for reading.
