For anyone who has not heard, early yesterday morning my sister Melissa Hedrick died. She had been in the hospital for over a week. She was septic from a staff infection in her knee. Having beat cancer 7 years ago her immune system was compromised. There had been no sign of the staff infection for several days before she died. She also had MRSA which is antibiotic resistant. Her final days were very painful even with morphine. She is blessed to be relieved of her suffering.

I've recently rediscovered the cold start french fry technique. It involves less oil than deep frying and you don't have to double fry. You just need enough oil to cover the potatoes and then you put the heat on high. When they float up to the top, cook your burger. 25-30 minutes

Honest to goodness real lemonade made with a zest infused simple syrup and actual lemons. Nothing from the grocery store comes close and nothing is better on a hot day.
Syrup:
1C water
1C sugar
Zest from 2 lemons
Simmer 5 minutes and strain out zest.
Lemonade:
1C lemon juice (4 to 6)
1C simple syrup
2C water
Ice
Stir and serve over ice.
*my secret: a pinch of salt in the simple syrup

I soaked this corned beef in cold water and rubbed off all of the pickling spice. Then I dryed and seasoned heavily with black pepper and coriander. Then I braised it in a beer with a little liquid smoke at 250 for 2 hours before adding the veggies. After an hour I removed the cabbage and the beef tenting them. I turned the oven up to 350 and returned the rest of the vegetables for a half hour.
