As a future biotechnologist, one of the main problems our world is facing, is the lack of water, which has surprisingly decreased. As a case in point, in Mexico 85% of the territory is facing scarcity of Water. Fuerthermore, the Cuatzamala has just one third of its capacity, which is worrying.
One of my biggest dreams is to set up an enterprise, which can help others, through the purification and the creation of new methods for cleaning and purifying it, reason for which I created “Patla”, which stands for “change” in maya. One of the first steps is to create a 6-dimension communication plan.
1. Operational dimension: It is vital for employees to know that this is an enterprise which is looking forward to solve the problem of the lack of water. All employees, will be given a manual and courses so as to know their job and get to know the enterprise, as well as the trascendance of their job.
2. Strategic: The main objective that employees must take into acount is the solution of the scarcity of water. By 2030, this enterprises intends to reduce 10% the lack of water in rural areas, reason for which educating and motivating all workers to propose solutions is extermely important.
3. Cultural: This is a space where workers must be creative, we want them to be innovative, responsible and commited. Each worker is given a vast space, and a flexible schedule, as long as they come up with solutions, so as to propitiate and ambience of creativity, friendship, and resolution of problems.
4. Motivational: All the people in the enterprise must investigate and must be committed, reason for which regular meetings are essential, so as to make them understand the trascendance of their job, and how important are the things they are doing, which may solve a major problem.
5. Feedback dimension: Every week, a job performance chart will be provided to each worker, so as to propose the areas they can imporve. Nevertheless, assessor will supervise them, in case they have doubts on how to improve.
6. Proposal: From time to time, in general meetings, the ideas of all workers will be taken into consideration, according to the needs of the enterprise, which will encourage participation, and will make employees feel important.
This is a plan I have for the future, and hopefully one day I will set up my own enterprise. :))

THE SUCCESS OF A CHOCOLATE
Hardly a week goes by without consuming chocolates, they are tasty and delicious. You might probably enjoy Dove, Milky Way, Snickers and M&M’s, and what is the most surprising, is the fact that all these chocolates belong to Mars. So, where did this company started, and where did it get all of its success?
We could not talk about Mars, without mentioning the Spanish Civil War, were due to the lack of provisions, soldiers would eat sugar covered chocolate balls. This is where Mars Franklin came up with the brilliant idea of producing a chocolate which would not melt, but in your mouth.
The chocolate that impressed the most, was M&M’s (which stands for Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie), due to its history, specifically during the Second World War, were it was common for soldiers to have their daily rations in cardboard tubes. After the War ended, they were greatly accepted among people, since they had been restricted for soldiers.
Nowadays, due to its amazing campaigns, not only are they known in the U.S.A, but worldwide, with amazing campaigns that are intended to create a relationship with the customer, giving each chocolate a unique personality, and making the clients feel part of the decisions.
Without a doubt, the success of Mars, must be recognized, both for its history, and amazing ideas, that have transcended throughout history.

“Small acts, when multiplied by the people, can transform the world” -Howard Zinn
It has been widely know that certain enterprises have been testing their products on animals, commiting some of the worst acts, without sensibility or humanity, where not only do animals suffer, but they are shaved due to chemicals, tortured and left blinded or deaf.
It is our duty to stop this, by informing ourselves, by spreading the word,  and by not buying products which are tested on animals. There are tons of products which are certified as “cruelty free”, with the logos displayed at the image.
Animals such as rabbits, monkeys, rats and pigs must not be tortured, and in our hands, we have the possibility to start changing, with simple, but effective actions, do you dare to change?

VIRUSES
Hardly a week goes by without hearing about viruses, specifically since the arrival of coronavirus, reason for which it is vital to know about them, so as to be better informed and prevented. As mentioned in this blog, biotechnologists can create vaccines or cures against viruses and diseases, so a clear and simple explanation about this subject will be offered.
WHAT ARE THEY?
Viruses, also known as infectious agents are microorganisms, which means they can only be seen through a microscope. Their main feature is that in order to reproduce, a host (a living being in which to live) is required, since they cannot reproduce by themselves. Once they have obtained a host, the host will be infected. From this point forward, the virus will be able to replicate its genetic material in the hosts’ cells and reproduce many times.
HOW DO THEY SPREAD?
Viruses are spread through different vectors. A vector is defined as a carrier of a virus that can infect other organisms, it must be stressed that they are easily spread and infect living things in the environment.
CONCLUSION
In light of the above, it is vital to know what a virus is and how to prevent it, specifically in these times where hardly a week goes by without hearing this word. Remember to protect yourselves, and the ones you love, stay home and wear your masks. Always in the future!

EMERALD SLUG
It is often thought that photosynthesis is a process exclusive of plants. Nevertheless a slug is capable of amazing us, so we introduce the emerald slug, the unique animal capable of photosynthesizing.
This slug feeds on a plant known as Vaucheria litorea, from which it extracts and assimilated the chloroplasts. Moreover, the chloroplasts are assimilated in a way that they continue living in the slug, without dying or degrading, allowing the slug to live from the solar light.

CHOOSE BEAUTIFUL, CHOOSE LOVE
Seldom is business considered important among biotechnologists or scientists in general. Nevertheless, we live in a globalised world, where it is essential to innovate and have a specific plan so as to create a brand-new product, and being able to sell it worldwide.
As mentioned in this blog, a biotechnologist can create his or her own enterprise, with cosmetic, beauty or self-care products, reason for which it is important to learn some aspects about sells and entrepreneurship. As a case in point, the brand Dove created a new campaign which is intended to show women their importance, the self-love and self-care.
In the campaign, women had to enter through two doors, one that was for “beautiful women”, and the other one for “regular women”; women could choose the door they wanted, so as to show them that the appearance begins in the thoughts one has about themselves. Not only was this example of marketing inspirational, but it won many prizes worldwide, and therefore there was an amazing increase on the sales.
In light of the above, despite considering science apart from business affairs, it is an amazing combo, which ought to be known by most scientists, that can change the world in many aspects. Always in the future!

AN INMORTAL JELLYFISH
Have you ever wondered whether living forever could be possible? If so, we’ve got astonishing news for you, since there is a type of jellyfish that lives forever, known as Turritopsis Nutricola.
CHARACTERISTICS
This particular jellyfish, can be found in the Caribbean, but it might extend to other oceans. Furthermore, this jellyfish is one of the smallest; its size ranges from 4 to 5 milimeters; as other type of jellyfish, the Turritopsis Nutricola is composed by 95% of water, and its tentables can rage from 8 (in its youth) to 80 (in its adulthood)
THE SECRET OF INMORTALITY
Whereas it is not certain why this jellyfish is inmortal, scientifics reckon it phases a process of “tissue reestructuring”, where the jellyfish returns to its initial stage of life. After the reproductive phase, the jellyfish becomes young again, and this cycle could be repeated forever.
As if taken from science fiction, nature continues to amaze us, some scientifics might even think that inmortality could be possible for humans in the foreseeable future, reason for which analysing this animal is of extreme importance. Do you think it might be possible?
