there needs to be an easier way to convey the idea of "it's absolutely fine that you don't like this thing I like, and I don't even necessarily disagree with your reasons for disliking it, but I am sick to death of hearing your negative opinions about it."

actually I think it would have been so interesting if instead of looking for her imaginary children that she created with asexual reproduction, wanda was left thinking of pietro after westview and realized that if the multiverse was real, so was a reality where her brother was alive. enter the x men

i think another reason turning red is one of my new favorite pixar movies is because it reminds me so much of as told by ginger, my favorite nicktoon, and also the most underrated nicktoon imo. ATBG also focused on middle school girls in the early 2000s, the big difference being that it was actually made back in the early 2000s.
it's important i say that because ATBG was such a revolutionary cartoon at the time. it was so ahead of its time that it became virtually forgotten for a long time. funnily enough, just like turning red and my favorite pixar movie onward, ATBG recieved a lot of hate for both its art style and its departure from the status quo of wacky silly shows from the same network.
back in 2000, it wasn't common for cartoons on mainstream cable kids networks to have serialized stories. it would be about 10 years before serialized western cartoons become huge.
other ways it broke new ground were its subtle mentions of girls' puberty and tackling of serious issues. the characters felt real; they'd change clothes every episode, and you watch them change and grow throughout the series. that's common nowadays, but it was pretty much a novel concept for early 2000's cartoons.
i feel like if ATBG came out today, it would be equally as huge as turning red. and the world didn't even seem to be as ready for turning red, as it had more direct mentions of girls' puberty and parents lost their cool.
but honestly i think that's a result of the sanitized, corporate, clean, pretty picture perfect image disney has maintained for its entire existence, while nickelodeon's rough, rugged and edgy image and attitude was ever-present back when ATBG was airing. people just didn't bat an eye cause that's what they expected from nick. i'd love to talk about the rise of spongebob's affect on viacom's decisions as a corporation and how they warped nickelodeon into a shell of its former self that directly goes against the channel's original message, but that's a whole other can of worms for another day. i could also talk about a very similar effect i've seen with cartoon network/warner, as the channel had been completely sanitized of any heart and soul branding-wise.
i like how we've seen pixar rebelling against its parent corporation in recent years, with employees speaking out on disney's bigotry and turning red signifying a huge shift in how they approach tougher subjects.
if you haven't watched as told by ginger yourself, i highly recommend you check it out!! if you loved turning red, you will definitely enjoy this series :D it's highly underrated!
if onward wasn't consuming my brain 24/7 i'd love to write an ATBG-esque series/fic for turning red. there's so much potential for expansion there.

you are allowed to be proud of the victories that no one else can see. like showering without completely hating your body, not breaking into tears at the thought of the future, talking yourself out of a dark mindset, calming yourself down in public, or like waking up every single day and choosing life. be proud of the progress no matter if it is visible for others or not. you’re doing great, keep up the good work!

That was the summer of 1963 when everybody called me Baby and it didn’t occur to me to mind.  That was before President Kennedy was shot, before The Beatles came, when I couldn’t wait to join the Peace Corp. and I thought I’d never find a guy as great as my Dad.
That was the summer we went to Kellerman’s.
