I think the main problem here was that death knew her since she was a literally baby, watched her grow up from an infant to a young woman, and is now in a sexual relationship with her which is very predatory. It’s fine to have those things in YA books, but I think you’re missing the point
Absolutely no hate to this person going forward

I love these books. They are beautiful, and while the story follows some traditional arcs, it’s written in such a way that things are turned on their head and looked at sideways. (There are seven, five mainline books -one of which my husband is reading, thats why it’s not on my shelf, and two books of short stories) It’s so REFRESHING.
MILD SPOILERS BELOW-
The people in this series (the Raksura) are often mistaken for a cannibalistic species (the Fel) that preys on and destroys other sentient peoples. Horrifyingly enough, the Raksura are often the most victimized in addition to being mistaken for the Fel by others. It leads to the Raksura not often being seen as real and valid people.
Raksura tend to be somewhat poly and bisexual by default, though some even venture into pansexual (in this context, game for recreational sex with other sentient and consenting species). This is a huge aspect of what I love about this series. It’s not written like it’s special, or even thrust blatantly in your face, it’s normalized for the Raksura. It just is, and it warms my heart.
The characterizations in the books, starting with The Cloud Roads is well done, you’re just as confused as Moon when the story starts. It helps you bond with him, I think.

If you don’t want to buy these, since these paperbacks are rather expensive, please go check if your local library has them!
EDIT: These books are finally being released in Trade Paperback- which is significantly less expensive than the larger paperbacks. I still cannot recommend these books loudly enough. They are wonderful.

There's nothing like spending the day getting lost in a good fantasy book. So far so good.
