The Bayview Motel has been demolished.

One of the smallest motels I have ever seen in New Jersey in one of the seediest places someone could select. The Bayview Motel lies between Atlantic City and the town of Absecon, in the Absecon swampland on E. Absecon Blvd. It looks like it’s been closed since about 2008 and is currently for sale.

Nevele's Winter Lodge burned down last week.

Opened in 1901 and closed in 2009 due to financial issues, the Nevele Grand Hotel was one of many Borscht Belt resorts in the Catskills Mountains of New York. There are multiple buildings and hotel wings on the property, as well as the tower, pools, a ski chalet, golf course, lounges, conference facilities, etc. Pictured is the Winter Lodge, in a postcard from the 1930s, 1977 and 2020. Source

Pocono Palace has been sold. The property will close and change hands on May 2nd, 2024.
I’ve spent so much time exploring and researching the dead resorts in this area and in the midst of all those visits, Pocono Palace has been my saving grace. It’s one of the few places I feel is still so authentically old-school-honeymoon-era-Poconos and still has its champagne glass tubs, round beds and heart shaped pools. It has also been one of the places we have continuously stayed at while doing Pocono research for this account.
So seeing it join the long list of dead Pocono hotels breaks my heart. I’d like to think the new owners will continue to run it exactly as it is but I’ve heard that it will be turned into a rehab center or wellness facility. Time will tell.
Enjoy some vintage photos + a few unedited snapshots from our last visit. 💘

Opened as the Cleveland Deluxe Cottages in the 1940s, operated as the Holiday Manor throughout the 70s and closed as the Villagio di Montagna in the 90s.
In the 80s, the property was purchased by Xavier Roberts, the owner of Babyland General Hospital (known as the birthplace of Cabbage Patch Kids) and may still be owned by him today. The building pictured here is the original restaurant, which now sits abandoned. As far as I can tell, the rest of the resort has been demolished.
Located in Cleveland, Georgia.

Before the Commack Motor Inn became a 70s love hotel, it was called the Jerimac Motel. Built in 1957, the Jerimac was advertised as a "home away from home" and was featured in the Green Book.

The Riverhouse Motor Lodge was one of many Gatlinburg motels destroyed during the 2016 Great Smoky Mountain wildfires.
It was built in 1971 by owner Hugh Faust. Faust's motel was so beloved that after the fires, a memorial Facebook page was created and is actually still active in 2024. Most of the Riverhouse's customers were return-guests and had spent decades getting to know the owner, his family and the staff. These guests provided more than $15,000 of aid to the employees who were laid off.
"We didn't know what to say. We couldn't believe it. We're flabbergasted. It has been very heart-warming to see the response from people who have been our customers throughout the last 47 years. It means my staff was doing a great job of running this place," said Faust.
The Faust family continues to operate the Riverhouse Inn at the Park, a few blocks from the Motor Lodge. They're known for their warm, homemade donuts, fresh brewed coffee delivered to each guest and clean/comfortable rooms.

Been following for a while (even bought the pins; love ‘em!) and just wanted share a dead motel that I’d stumbled across recently. It appears to have closed sometime during the pandemic. Doubt that it gets resurrected, given the price of real estate in the area.

The Stratford Motor Lodge of Falls Church, Virginia closed in 2021. There have been multiple proposed development plans, including a senior living center or Wawa convenience store, but they all fell through. In September 2023, another application was filed with plans to revitalize a portion of the building into a restaurant.
