The bell above the coffee shop entrance jangled suddenly, a loud burst of sound accompanying the barging student through the door. You didn’t bother to lift your head as his eyes searched the cafe for you, rolling your eyes when you heard the stool next to you being pulled out and sat on.

“Hey.” You ignored the deep voice, continuing to scrawl into your notebook. You only looked up to switch your pink highlighter for your blue one, your color-coded notes exceptionally organized. A small sigh sounded from next to you.

“C’mon, I’m sorry I’m late.” He reached over, not taking your hand–he knew better–but as a peace offering. “They didn’t let me leave, you know how it is.”

You felt a twinge of guilt in the pit of your stomach, knowing how the life of a new debut could be. He was overworked, had ridiculous schedules that people his age shouldn’t have to adhere to. He actually talked about it in a song he’d written that he’d shown you. It was all absurd, and he was the last person to blame.

But still… “Not even a text, Yoongi.”

“You know my phone has shitty service in the dance practice room.” He held his phone up as proof, “They’ve got us in the basement.”

Maybe you shouldn’t have looked at him. Fallen into the trap of the sheepish smile he wore when your eyes met his. He reached over, tugging your stool closer to his. You clung to the table with a yelp, trying to keep your balance, but Yoongi apparently wasn’t concerned with all that. He just wanted to apologize up close, it seems.

“I’m sorry I’ve missed so many dates lately.” He looked down, actually taking your hand this time. You couldn’t help but feel a spark run up your skin where he touched you. “I know I’m busy, but I miss you. I want to spend time with you.”

It’s ridiculous, the way your heart swoons, and those nuisance butterflies return. And how quickly you forgive him. It’s not like you were planning to hold a grudge anyway, you tell yourself. Whatever to placate yourself.

You nod to let him know as much, purposefully ignoring the way your stomach is doing backflips at the gummy smile that breaks onto his face.

You both fall back into your routine quickly enough, Yoongi getting both your orders from the front, bringing them to the table. You, with all your schoolwork strewn out in front of you, and him with his song book and ipod, earbuds tucked into his ears. You work like that in silence for a bit, and it’s serene.

Your arms stretch over your head when you take a break, sneaking a peak over at his song book. “What are you working on?” Your voice surprised him a bit, and you had to hold back a giggle at his expression. He took one earbud out to hear you. “What?”

“I said, what are you working on?” You nod at his notebook.

“I’m trying to write my verse for our cypher.” He leaned back, letting you look over his shoulder. He was surprised at how open he was with it—it was unprecedented, actually. He usually held his notebook close to his chest, and let only a select few peer into it. “I’ve actually got a few verses of it recorded, do you wanna hear?”

He was handing you an earbud when you’d nodded, and you tucked it in, ready for him to press play. Although, when his voice filled your ears, it wasn’t the hard rap you’d expected to hear, but a softer tone.

How can a person be like this?

I start to feel like I’m the only one living in this world

Even if you don’t put on makeup—

Yoongi stabbed the stop button frantically, abruptly pausing the verse in the middle, and somehow skipping the song to a completely different one. When you looked over at him, his cheeks were flushed.

“That was uh…” He was fidgeting, hands fiddling with the ipod in his hand. “Not the one I was talking about.”

“You wrote that?” You were still in awe of the words, a warm feeling filling you when you’d heard them. Whoever inspired those was lucky, the subject of such tender emotion from the usually tsundere man.

“Yeah, actually–” He gulped. He wouldn’t look you in the eye as the next words came out of his mouth. “It was actually for you. Inspired by you, I mean.”

Your heart skipped a beat as a smile you couldn’t help made its way onto your face. Your hand subconsciously fell to his arm, but Yoongi noticed. “For me?” Your voice was so sweet, excited. Yoongi nodded, originally shy about it, but newly animated with your reaction.

“I wanted to wait and show you when it was done but…”

“Can we listen again?” You exuberantly hugged his arm, looking at the ipod. He couldn’t help the quiet chuckle he let out when looking at you, his finger hovering over the play button again. If your reaction was this cute, it was so fucking worth it.
