Jason knocks down all the lines of the wire trying to get through to Percy's therapist because this is clearly an acute exacerbation!

Uh, I'm not sure who would be the second parent of the child, since the chances of all plus or minus are equal, so you can read this as if it's their common child or it's just their reaction.

This would in fact be very angsty of him. Make the bad good, and all that. Tho, tbh, Percy cares so much about his people that I suspect he would advocate for a name that belonged to a cherished friend, especially one that passed. Maybe something like Tyson?

I love all of this. So good.

I feel like Luke would be an absolute HORROR at college but in a way that might be really healing to him (at the expense of everyone around him). Like, he would be a polisci major with a philosophy minor and he would just use it as an excuse to argue CONSTANTLY. He’d have a weird sort of popularity where a lot of people hate his guts but also begrudgingly respect him??? Especially because he’s a part of a frat and is known as the guy who can get anyone anything. He dabbles in drug dealing, but eventually realizes that dealing the hard stuff has too big a risk factor, so he dials it back to stuff like weed and adderall. He starts collecting cheat sheets for exams too, though he decides not to actually sell them or anything—he just likes the challenge of keeping them. He doesn’t use them either, because he’s got Something To Prove™, so when he gets straight A’s it’s all because of his actual work (and the hours spent in office hours arguing with his professors). He joins an athletic team and almost manages to completely take it over from the coaches before getting kicked off. A ton of girls are into him but he can never keep himself mentally grounded for long enough to actually get anywhere with any of them. He is always cleaning but also, somehow, chronically messy. He has a minor Red Bull addiction. He’s a bastard. He also, unfortunately, has some decent points sometimes.

He’s also healing, somehow. Living in the dorms is similar to living in Cabin 11, in terms of chaos and community, but at the same time, Luke actually has some space to himself for once. He has a roommate, but his roommate sometimes spends nights over at his girlfriends’ place, so every once in a while Luke is actually just… alone. And, sure, he can still hear some of the other guys through the walls, it’s not like he’s isolated from civilization… but he actually is alone, and able to exhale for what feels like the first time in years.

It’s also nice to be an asshole, and a shithead, and a dick sometimes. He doesn’t always have to be a mentor, a big brother. No one’s looking up to him. No one expects great things from him—all of that pressure is just gone. People appreciate him for his strengths, tolerates his weaknesses, and just… it’s okay. He’s okay.

He is able to connect with being a child of Hermes, and all of the tomfoolery that comes with that, but his life is finally about him, not his siblings, and not his dad. He’s finally able to be independent, and he needed it more than he ever realized.

I'm rereading sections of SoN as reference for the next chapter of PoR and fuck, now I want to write a Percy x Reyna story. Like, look at this:

Not only was Reyna so ready to elect Percy as praetor, she was also lowkey ready to jump him right then and there. Like, she'd already assessed him as intelligent, a good warrior, and trustworthy. She needed someone to fill Jason's shoes as praetor, and no current people at camp would cut it. But here Percy is, arriving at the perfect time like a fucking omen-- of course she wanted him to be praetor!

(This is ignoring aroace Reyna-- sorry, but I never read ToA, so I'm just going off of HoO canon).

Anyways, I want to see a story where Percy goes to Camp Jupiter, does what needs to be done, thwarts Octavian, and becomes praetor. Then, take it as you will-- maybe he becomes praetor and tries to keep his distance from Reyna as she pursues him romantically, maybe he is into her but uncertain because he still has memories of Annabeth, maybe he doesn't have any memories of Annabeth so nothing is holding him back from pursuing Reyna. Then Annabeth shows up...

Or, hey, maybe Annabeth is dead. Sorry, I hate to say it! But canon divergence is going to diverge! Maybe Annabeth is dead, and Percy is at Camp Jupiter, and Reyna is everything he's looking for in a partner... I'm just saying...

My Brainrot on the "Poseidon theme erased Percy's memory".

Poseidon overdid it a bit when he erased Percy's memory.. He doesn't even remember his own name. he does not know that he is Percy Jackson, Lupa and her wolves do not care much about it, she just calls him the son of Neptune and he is also quite happy with this. But the inhabitants of Camp Jupiter think otherwise. He calls himself Maris because it is a beautiful name, he is the son of the sea god and despite his slight but obsessive fear, he really likes the sea. His middle name is Flavius, in honor of the last son of Neptune, who, by the way, passed a happy life and died at a very old age ;) Reyna gave him her grandmother's maiden name, - Bettencourt-Casilla. thus, his full name - Maris "Rhys" Flavius Bettencourt-Casilla. Frank and Jason call him Bondi to express their special affection for him.

Maris - sea.

Flavius, - yellow, blond.

Bettencourt, - court, yard, or farmyard.

Casilla, - house.

"Bondi," originally "Boondi" is an Aboriginal word meaning "water breaking over rocks" or "noise of water breaking over rocks."

Dude Percy gives such intense skater-rat bad boy energy that if he DID ever regain his memory and reconnect with his old friends, theyd literally never let him live it down. "I bet I could outrun that cop" "Okay, whatever you say Bettencourt" "Give me a break!!"

What if Poseidon had stripped Percy of his memory before sending him to Camp Jupiter?

Percy would've been so much happier.

Jk. I mean... maybe.

Okay, so for anyone who's confused, in Preserve or Raze (on Ao3), Percy was held captive on the Andromeda by Luke until the end of the Titan war. Then, when he escapes, Poseidon brings him to Camp Jupiter to heal, where he's just depressed and miserable for a little bit before starting to heal.

However, if his memories were erased... I mean, imma be honest, I think instead of being miserable, hed actually be cagey as hell. I feel like he would still be aware that something traumatic had happened, even if he wasn't aware of what trauma had happened or by who. So he would just always be on his guard as he tried to figure out what the hell happened and why he was here. I also think it would take him way longer to trust / fall for Jason.

Alternatively, maybe Poseidon would leave him a note, like: "Your name is Percy Jackson and you are a son of Poseidon. You are a powerful demigod and a skilled swordsman. For the past 4 years you were in a dangerous, traumatic situation, but you're safe now. You can trust the demigods around you." Then maybe he'd be slightly less cagey... but idk. I feel like in that circumstance, Percy would just spend a lot of time in deep thought, but not be quite as angsty. It would also take him very little time to start trusting Jason, and when they did get together, it would be a much softer romance. Percy would be a lot more emotionally available than he is in current PoR.

And either version of events would be absolutely hell on earth for Annabeth, poor girl.

"Jason Jackson"? Its giving Jackson 5 (in a bad way)

I think if they were to get married, theyd have to either keep their own names or hyphenate. Theyre such big softies they'd probably hyphenate tbh. "Percy Jackson-Grace" and "Jason Jackson-Grace" have nice rings to them.

So I actually went down a whole rabbithole figuring out Spanish naming conventions. But from my understanding, people typically dont change their last names when they get married, so Reyna would probably keep hers. I could see Jason changing his to match hers, tho, so something like:

Jason could also hyphenate his last name further?? Maybe?? But like, lmao no.

From my understanding, when people with Spanish last names have kids, the kid would then have a combined version of their names, like this:

So if Jason and Reyna had a baby called, idk, Lily, the kids name could be:

So every time Ive tried to write the next chapter of POR over the past few months ive gotten stuck because it just felt off. I have now realized that it is the same issue I always have: that the chapter is not supposed to be Jason or Annabeth's POV, but FRANKS. Frank's POV somehow always saves me.

So, in the next little while, look forward to Frank's POV of him and Hazel on the Son of Neptune quest!

I'd love if she didn't and instead she was just a Sally Jackson character where he could swing by with his friends sometimes and she'd pour lemonade with a grimly determined look on her face and then give battle advice. Strong-jawed and slow to smile but a good person to have in your corner.

i've put some thought into it because i LOVE frank and his son of neptune arc especially but like...did his mom need to be dead for it? i'm so back and forth on this like sacrifice and duty are obviously big parts of his arc but i feel like he could have had the same angst if his mom was just absent. idk. also his mom died SIX WEEKS before son of neptune which no one remembers because he doesn't behave like someone who's mom died six weeks ago (or like someone who only learned about being a demigod six weeks ago).

He's her loser older brother. He only hangs out with the same 4-5 people despite half his college fancying him. He's the designated driver for Percy and Annabeth’s dates. He takes fencing classes. Thalia beat him to the shovel talk and he still holds a grudge to this day.

AO3 Subscriptions

So, if you didn't know, ao3 has lots of subscription options. As long as you have an account and your email address is up to date, you can get various levels of notifications. You need to be a logged in user in order to subscribe.
