If I had a nickel for every time a beautiful woman put a sword to my neck, I would have two nickels which isn't a lot but weird that it happened twice. -Vanthiyathevan probably.
the fact that jupiter and saturn haven’t been physically and observably this close since 1226 is so poetic bc you’re telling me i’m going to look up at and admire the same astronomical anomaly in the sky that someone hundreds and hundreds of years ago, with less knowledge of the stars and the planets than we have now, also looked up at and admired nonetheless. the past is long gone but the awareness of being connected to someone somewhere long ago thru the night sky is overwhelming me
Honestly where would we be as a society without the "if I had a nickel for every time [x] happened, I would have two nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice" meme. Perfect meme to express confusion that something happened two whole times which is not a LARGE number of times, usually, but for this specific thing that is a lot of times. We owe Doofenshmirtz everything
Still in awe that more than zero people in the world believe corals are just inanimate mineral formations, or that sea anemones are plants, or that sea urchins are just stationary objects, or that so many people didn’t know that every single seashell in the world comes from the death of its original owner and isn’t “molted” or “shed” from live snails. People deserve to know marine invertebrates as well as they do so many other animals :(
im having a moment because I just discovered that sea urchins are more closely related to humans than they are to things like barnacles, clams, snails, jellyfish, corals, and anemones
I shared some thoughts with some friends last night, after midnight, that I am confident made sense to them… but now that I try to write them down in the cold light of day I really don’t think I can phrase them in a way that other people will understand. It’s about… venom and communion with nature and… well. The gist of it is that I find something soothing about chemical defenses from organisms as remote to me as siphonophores strangely soothing because they reaffirm my kinship with the furthest alien reaches of the animal kingdom, even if that kinship is expressed by a big “fuck you”.
Does anyone want to watch Pacific Rim (2013) on July 12, 2023? It’s a Wednesday which is a bummer but it might be fun to do a group re-watch using Discord maybe? All press play at the same time? IDK reblog or comment with thoughts on this.
