How gallant to save the empress from her gilded tower

Swinging a sword he could barely lift

But loneliness struck at that fateful hour

Low hanging fruit on his wine stained lips

He never even scratched the surface of me.

I screamed while bringing my fists to my coffee ringed desk It was a mutual manic phase.

It was self harm.

It was house and then cardiac arrest.

A smirk creeps onto this poet's face

Because it's the worst men that I write best.

I could write an essay about literally every new song on TTPD but I’m currently listening to “Down Bad” so here goes:

THE ALIEN METAPHOR! Ma’am this is illegal. The sound is incredible, the melody is infectious, the lyrics are so so complex.

The fact that after “How dare you say it’s” she literally CANNOT say “over” even though it’s the word that goes there. The fact that the whole song equates their relationship to being beamed up by an alien and then left stranded (but safe) and no one will believe her. It’s incredible.

It’s also her insistence, in the face of feeling like she has no evidence, that she WAS in love. She is saying that, despite what it might look like to everyone else, she really did love him. And/or her telling herself that the love was real as of trying to convince herself of it.

Wish I could write more but I’m currently too busy listening to the anthology!!!

Look, we don’t know the context of the scenes in the trailer in which Eloise seems to be friendly with Cressida. It could very well be subversive, so I don’t want to go into it too much. BUT-

I do think that it says something about Eloise’s privilege (if she’s actually befriended Cressida, even if it’s just to make Pen upset or something) and her lack of awareness. Yes, El has every reason to be upset with Pen about the Lady W stuff. However, she spent all of last season fighting against her position in society and complaining about having to be a debutant when she is enormously uncomfortable with it and its implications. This is all fine and good. It’s a valid critique of her society.

But she is unwilling to look outside of herself to see the other potential negative consequences of this same system on people like Pen. Eloise’s rebellion stems from feeling like she does not naturally fit what a young lady “should” be and is anxious because of it. Through this, she discovers deeper discontents with the society she exists in. But she fails to recognize that she is still at the top of her society in many ways. She is a Bridgerton (a family of wealth, status, and genuine love and support) and a classically beautiful woman who could easily have all the things her society expects of her if she put in even a bit of effort.

Pen does not have any of these things. Her family has fallen from grace and they are mean and unloving to her besides that. She is ostracized by the ton due to both her physical appearance and her shyness. But Eloise never considers this. She somehow sees them as the same. I hope this season explores El realizing this and starting to understand who Pen actually is as a person not just her sidekick. This is not to hate on El (I love her) but it’s important that she grow and learn from this.

So tired of lazy takes like this. Get your facts straight. It’s a cease and desist. What he’s doing DOES endanger both her and her team. Stop making the guy doing this seem young and innocent by calling him a “college student”. He knows what he’s doing, which is tipping off stalkers and other hostile people. Many Swifties DO NOT agree with Taylor’s privacy being infringed upon, but what you’re talking about is at least in a public place with proper security. Why do you care more about some random guy’s “freedom” to not only track but publish a woman’s movements than that actual woman’s safety? Probably bc you don’t see her as a person. Have some empathy or at the very least stop spreading biased media regurgitations around the internet. There are plenty of valid criticisms of TS, but this isn’t one of them.

It really is wild to see swifties defend Taylor’s decision to threaten a lawsuit against a college student who published already public records of her private jet travel under the guise of ‘being a threat to her privacy and stalking’ and be like ‘she’s protecting herself and it’s weird he’s publishing her whereabouts but then those same people will squeal and love photos/videos of Taylor and her close friends having a private day at a zoo. Like I’ve seen countless videos and pictures that were taken without her knowledge or consent from far away helicopters with no awareness of how invasive that is? So it's almost like y'all don't care about her right to privacy once you benefit from it...

yall know what it’s established that the Herondales love once and all that angst and everything BUT may i present to you the Blackthorns?!! Just look at Julian Blackthorn!! Literally got turned into a (real) Nephilim; Mark goes at such lengths for Kieran and the way he cares about Cristina is unparalleled; we’ve seen them all but now is Tiberius’s turn!! I want to see him fight for Kit once he realises and sorts out his feelings and makes peace with his past!

I could write a whole essay about the fact that Dex says “I was talking to you” to that dancer after Emma dies.

Emma was so much more than just his wife or the love of his life. She was arguably the only person that he could talk to honestly. And when she died, he had no one to talk to about his feelings about his grief. Because she was the one he always went to with that and now she’s gone.

I think this relates back to his relationship with his mom, who is probably the only person he saw himself in. And when his mom died, he didn’t know how to handle it. This is the same with Emma.

Emma was the most intimate, deepest relationship he had. And when he lost that relationship, he lost himself. When he lost Emma, he lost not only his past or his present, but the future they were building together, the future he envisioned for them.

And when he’s drunk on the anniversary of her death, he just wants someone to listen to him grieve.

Yes, I think this is an important analysis. It’s also important to note that abuse, abusers, and victims of abuse come in many different firms and may not always look the way you assume. Growing up, my mother was constantly abused by my narcissistic step father. But she was not a whimpering, silent victim. She often fought back or tried to say the right thing to switch up the situation, much like Sally does in that scene. My mother was broken down over years, but she still retained a sliver of that fiery, stubborn person she always was. Even though my step father tried to kill it, he couldn’t. Victims of abuse are not a monolith, and neither are their abusers.

Amidst all this talk about what kind of/"level" of abusive Gabe is in the show compared to the book, I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention the exchange where Percy says he got kicked out for assaulting a girl, and Gabe says “Okay” in an almost impressed and approving tone, and all he has to say about that is, “but while you’re under my roof, you follow my rules.” And as he says this, the camera cuts to a close up on Percy, who looks confused and somewhat suspicious about Gabe’s reaction to Percy (allegedly) hitting a girl.

They packed a LOT of red flags into that scene, but this one really stood out to me.

I NEED Belly and Conrad to dance to “Lover” in season 3. In my head, it’s a scene where Conrad is helping Belly with the first dance choice/choreography for the wedding while Jere isn’t there. They dance and at first it’s kind of hesitant and jokey but then they get lost in each other and it starts to feel like it’s their first dance, or like it felt when Conrad saved her at the cotillion. But then they get interrupted by Steven who totally sees what’s going on and they break apart quickly and Belly leaves the room but Conrad is just staring longingly at her with his heart in his eyes.
