i think if despicable me had come out in 2001 mike wazowski would be the premiere facebook mom meme creature and if monsters inc had come out in 2010 everyone on tumblr would lose their shit over blurry minion pictures.

anyway. the other day i saw a bottle of wine on the counter and when i realized it was a pinot noir i turned around and said, "i brought you a pinot noir" apropos of nothing. no one was even in the kitchen with me, i said it to my mom in the living room.

i do think one of the big reasons toa went downhill like it did was that it started focusing on the plot and the lore and lost track of what made trollhunters really great, which is the characters, the dialogue, the relationships, the emotions. the lore is a cool bonus, but that's not the important part. it's about connection.

trollhunters (s1-2) is such a great show and a case study on how great characters, relationships, and development can transform an extremely generic plot into something truly special and unique. it also had fantastic visual storytelling, the scene at the beginning going through jim's routine established so much about his character without any dialogue and is something i think about a lot. and it literally changed the way i speak forever, i quote this show if not out loud than in my head on almost a daily basis.

because I’ve seen a couple posts like this recently:
Do not be discouraged if you see someone with the same idea for a fic as you! Because that’s what we want–the same exact stories, over and over, through the unique lens of each writer! That’s the beauty of fanfiction: you can read the same story, slightly to the left, as many times as possible!
So please, post that fic that has the same premise as someone else. Write your version of it, and rest assured knowing that at the very least, one person will be delighted to find the same kind of story as one they just finished!

i read so many books as a teenager and most i enjoyed in the moment but didn't stick with me a lot, but some really really stuck. i wish most of my books weren't in storage because i'd like to reread them now that i've started reading again.

i think instead of saying "are you normal about x" we should say "are you cool about x" because a lot of normal ways to treat other people are also really profoundly uncool of you

the question, you see, is not ‘is it too ooc for this character to cry’ but rather ‘what circumstances would push this character to cry’
this is the whump wisdom, go forth and make that character cry
