I was just sat. Thinking (AKA: procrastinating) and trying to brain myself into liking the Loki show.

And like. The first thing I came up with was ‘Loki/Sylvie isn’t actually a thing, he’s just an awkward fuck who doesn’t know how to have friends’ and, unsurprisingly, I immediately like the whole of it a ton more. Because Sylvie by herself isn’t a bad character idea, but the pseudo-romance is both unnecessary and creepy af. It’s not a coincedence that the moment we have Loki by himself they’re trying to pair him off - yay for heteronormativity! She’s a pretty damn cool concept - lived her whole life on the run, taught herself magic, etc.

But then I just can’t get over the writing. Not just for Sylvie, but for all of it (except maybe Mobius and parts of the TVA. those bits are pretty good). Loki becomes a soft-hearted little puppy unreasonably quickly. The most in-character moments of the whole damn show are when he’s trying to bullshit his way out of or into something, when he saw Frigga’s death and the little escapade. Past then, we get Ragnarok Loki with therapy.

And the sad thing is it could be so much better! Focus more on the actually interesting things like the TVA, Loki being a brainiac little shit trying to political espionage his way out somehow and figuring out what’s going on without Sylvie. She is unneeded. She is a catalyst for Loki to become a good guy when that would never work in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, I like the character. But it would make more sense if they had more episodes and only introduced her nearer to the end, after Loki has gotten a bit better after a long-ish time with the TVA, hunting her down with Mobius and figuring out what is going on, as well as working through his baggage. Because whoever wrote this completely forgot to go re-watch Thor 1 and Avengers, didn’t they?

It’s sad to see a good antihero utterly butchered. But oh well. Guess I just have to write a better version!

I just don't vibe with the character from what I've seen. Cool idea. Nice execution up until she suddenly seems to go from 'lone wolf edgy powahful wahmen' to 'ah yes, man I have just met, I trust you'.

and I put 'sheloki' in the tags because I've been familiar with the idea of ladyloki for ages and I think that's what she was called in the comics at some point. I don't really see the issue with it tho :p

this is sad as fuck, but I've never been happier than I am when I get nice comments from someone binging my fic.

genuinely. I beam, squeal do a little dance and am still happy about it after a week. whenever I get into a bad place, I look through my inbox (I've never deleted a single comment from it) and beam my face off. I just got three nice comments in a row. my cheeks ~ache~ and I feel like I could fuel a town with my good vibes and general happiness.

nothing has a comparable effect on me than someone genuinely enjoying my writing. the only thing that comes close is chilling with my best friend for a day.

you know when authors say stuff like 'you, commenter could rip my beating heart from my chest and eat it and I'd still love you'? that's the feeling.
