By the New 52 continuity, however, Barbara is back on her feet and fighting crime as Batgirl once more. This led to some concerns that DC was turning away from one of its most famous disabled characters. This led to confirmation that the events of The Killing Joke, including Barbara's paralysis and time working as Batman's hacker Oracle, are in fact canon in the New 52 continuity. After working as Oracle for a time, Barbara was able to undergo a form of physical therapy which eventually allowed her to walk once again with the help of a technological implant. The justification for her return to crimefighting in terms of storytelling was simple: she was the most famous iteration of Batgirl.

While this has been faced with the aforementioned criticism, Barbara's paralysis was also faced with scrutiny to begin with. Some critics claimed that immobilizing Barbara Gordon did the character a disservice, especially when Batman himself famously had his back broken by Bane and was able to recover without being confined to a wheelchair for a significant period of time.

Warner Bros. Montreal is also working with disability charity organization AbleGamers “to learn about different types of spinal injuries and the potential for someone to regain mobility." To that end, the team says players will see Barbara doing rehab exercises in the Belfry hideout and her Batsuit and civilian clothing include back bracing. 

How genuinely pathetic do you have to be to send this message?

I hate to break it to you but the Gotham Knights game is also ableist.

When the game was announced there was a huge pushback from the disabled community about how they erased Babs disability and again were using a not fit for purpose brace to support her.

Also just because they consulted with a disabled charity doesn't mean they still did not erase Babs actual disability. Also the consulted with that charity once the game was almost finished development and was essentially a PR on the games part to assuage the backlash about erasing her disability.

The Gotham Knights writers literally changed her disability, disabilities are not interchangeable, this is also a form of ableism.

The fact you felt the need to send this to a paraplegic person to defend an ableist company is embarrassing and shows you don't care about actual disabled representation and just want to prove DC isn't ableist when I know they are even their games division.

#tbh I am completely baffled as to why they're not going the batgirls route

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to bring up Batgirls and I'm sorry but that book was also ableist as well. The writers did not write Barbara as a paraplegic woman they also centered the ableist chip retcon in the handling of Babs disability.

I am an actual paraplegic person Babs specifically represented me before her disability was erased and if you handed me a thoracic brace like in Nightwing or a cane like in Batgirls I would not be mobile as they are not the right mobility aids for a paraplegic person with a lower spinal injury.

The Batgirl writers treated Babs disability with little to no respect at all in fact I found their handling of her disabilty out right insulting to my lived experience as they were completely inconsistent with how they handled her disability in their thankfully shortlived comic.

Like did the Batgirl writers do better than Tom Taylor yes but that's not a high bar to cross and I as a paraplegic person won't stop pointing out DC's ableism until Babs ableist retcon is undone and she is paraplegic again.

So when I wrote my original post I was wholeheartedly including Batgirls in my list of writers who have disrespected Babs disability.

Also the only comic to show Babs as a paraplegic woman in the past 5 years was Cliff Chiang's Catwoman:Lonely City which also has Babs act more like her pre52 self more than any other comic in the last 15ish years.

Babs has been wearing glasses and sitting behind a computer since 2020 and even calling herself Oracle because the writers at DC are ableist.

Oracle is a disabled superhero specifically a paraplegic woman and there was zero acknowledgment of that in in Birds of Prey #7 Thompson just did what every other able bodied writer has done since 2020 and had Batgirl Babs call herself Oracle.

Like I have been a disabled person advocating for Babs to be physically disabled again since that was erased in 2011 and its amazing how easy it is for DC to trick able bodied people to post about how Oracle is back when nothing could be further from the truth.

I just learned yesterday that Pikachu, my favorite Pokemon, was originally designed not by Ken Sugimori (he only finalized the design), but by a female graphic designer named Atsuko Nishida. 

Also after googling her, I found out that she’s also designed Sylveon–another favorite PKMN of mine. She’s also illustrated some very pretty Pokemon cards!!

Thank you Ms. Nishida! :-) May you get more credit and love for your contribution to the Pokemon franchise.

The war in Sudan has reached its 10th month. The war has been met with a global indifference or there has been no desire to act from many world leaders.

8 million people have fled their homes and millions of Sudanese people have emergency food insecurity, with 5 million people on the brink of famine. even the neighbouring country Chad has had to declare a food insecurity emergency due to the mass amount of Sudanese people that have fled to Chad. (By no fault of their own of course)

Faced with a media blackout which is over a week at this point we need to continue to amplify the voices and plight of the Sudanese people.

I'm sorry but Kelly Thompson saying the reason Babs could not be in the Birds of Prey book is because she would die on a mission is such a stupid writing choice.

If only when Babs founded and lead the Birds of Prey she did so remotely if only people respected Babs time as Oracle.

If only a single damn writer at DC respected disability representation and made the smallest push for Babs to be Oracle.

But no instead Babs gets sidelined from the team she created and lead as a disabled woman cause she potentially gets shot in the field.

Beyond frustrating at this point the way DC has all but destroyed Oracle's legacy and any hope I had as a disabled person that this book might maybe be different is gone.

Im being so serious when i say bring back letters to the editor. The people tweeting your monthly nightwing and batman hug panel are not actually buying your comics, but the people taking the time to write in and send a letter with their thoughts and opinions and suggestions are. Those are the ones you should be catering to! Social media shares does not really equal dollars spent I’m begging y’all to let us have a real voice again.
