Hell, as it turned out, was a vastly different place than she'd been told it was. Of course she'd only heard about it from religious friends, and Lucifer, she supposed, but he hadn't told her that it would be so comfortable. There were, of course, things missing that would have made it feel more like home. Linda also knew that time worked differently here, but she still didn't understand that.
She tended to wander mostly by herself, still learning where things were, and what places she needed to avoid. She knew that many of the angels had fallen, but she also knew that Michael hadn't returned, and that did somewhat concern her. She had so many things that she was thinking that she didn't notice when she nearly plowed poor Magnus over.
“I'm sorry.” She uttered, grabbing his arms to make sure he was still standing. “Oh, Magnus, hi.” She had met him in passing a couple of times now and remembered his name. “I didn't mean to - uh - well, run you over. Are you alright?”

Linda had to say that she didn’t understand meditation too much, and how it affected the body, but the small amount of sleep the other had still worried her. If the doctor got any less than six and a half, she was useless, and much less focused. Maybe she’d have to look a bit more into meditation and the health benefits of it, though, she likely would still hold her reservations about it replacing sleep.
A small smile upturned at the corners of her lips, and she nodded. “Noted. Thank you.” Maybe Mulan would be courteous enough to teach her a bit about meditation, and maybe that would help her learn, though she’d still have to get some guidance from another source. She could tell that Mulan was a bit more at ease than she had been when she first came into her office, so that was a nice shift.
Phoenix Inn? It sounded familiar, and Linda narrowed her eyes slightly while she thought about the name. Maybe it was one of the places that Lucifer had taken her once upon a time? She’d have to ask. “It sounds familiar. Do you enjoy working there?” She would have to make a point of going now that she knew Mulan worked there though.
Coding and graphic arts. Noted in her book. “Those sound interesting, and very busy. Are you enjoying that as well?” Maybe she’d ask to see some of Mulan’s art. Art therapy wasn’t one of Linda’s specialties, but she knew enough to get by, if that would help a patient. “What about your classes so you enjoy the most?”
mulan could appreciate the lack of judgement. she could normally see it in the eyes of another ━━ FEEL the emotions emanating from within. but with 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻 she felt as if she were finally being heard rather then 𝐁𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇. for the first time since she signed up for therapy, she felt like she had made the right decision. one of which left her feeling HOPEFUL that there might be a time where she could feel free to be her true self.
but for now, all she could do was 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 and see how much she could reveal VERSES how much she had to keep hidden. she knew that not everything could be told, especially about the SUPERNATURAL world and of how her cultivation had taken an affect on her poor sleeping habits. ❝ 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻 ━━ i am glad you understand, but i feel like i should say that i did MEDITATE so that does help me recover energy rather quickly. ❞
she was unsure of what was being written about her, though she felt a little 𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐎𝐔𝐒. while she had not made any friends here as of yet, she was not to concerned over the matter, for she knew her studies MATTERED more.
❝ of course. i work for a restaurant called the 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐗 𝐈𝐍𝐍 in chinatown. have you ever been ? if not, i would recommend it. i am one of the waitress there. ❞ she paused for a moment, before wondering what else she could say about it though the only thing she could think of was that they were KIND, ❝ they pay fairly well and allow me to pay for what i need here and send the rest home to my family. ❞ shifting a bit, she began to play with the bottom of her hair again, ❝ among my regular classes, i am taking a few computer science courses. a lot of it is CODING while i am also taking a few graphic arts classes. ❞

It had been a long time, even with the long gaps in their appointments sometimes, since she'd seen Leila in this much distress. She wished there was more she could do for her than just listen. But she also knew that sometimes that was all she needed. She often worried about her, actually.
"I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're okay." Linda knew what it was like to be in situations you didn't want to be in, and having dumb luck to keep you alive. She'd been young and college aged once. She'd also done her own share of stupid things in her years of experience, so if anyone understood where the other was coming from, Linda sure did.
"Hey, we're all disasters in our own way, you know. I'm not safe from that either." She learned forward, locking eyes with Leila so she knows that she's not giving up on her. "If you don't feel like you can grow, or overcome these things, why do you keep coming back to see me? I know that you know you can be better."
She exhales, letting her shoulders drop after a moment along with the majority of her walls.
That's the worst part, Linda does see her. Has since she was a scared, barely 18-year-old nobody with trust issues five miles wide.
"I'm not sure it's kept me alive, but dumb luck sure has. I came close once when I was younger. Stupid of me, really. Got in over my head, got choked out, and by some miracle, woke up the next day. Never made that mistake again."
She'd waited until she was old enough to get training from another worker, someone established who would teach her safely. She hadn't looked back after that, making it to where she was now.
"Still kind of a disaster, though. You know me better than most. Can't quit sex work, drugs, or alcohol. I figure it can kill me like it could any other human, but I've never put it to the test."

@magaprima moved for beta from here
Grinning and laughing softly, she nodded. “Oh he hates that I can tell him no. It means he can’t divert the conversation from whatever we’re working on.” It does give Linda a big stroke of pride that she could essentially ‘resist’ the devil. Lucifer would always be a good memory to her, because he helped her get out of her awful marriage, among other things, if she was being honest. “Oh. That makes more sense then.” Though she didn’t fully understand the whole psychic trail thing, maybe Lilith could teach her some more about it later.
It did seem likely that it would take longer than her human life cycle in order to help Lucifer actually deal with a lot of his anger and other issues, and she didn’t know if he’d ever find another therapist like her who would be able to put up with his antics. “Yeah, that’s been on my mind too. I don’t know what he’ll do when I’m gone.” Of course she had come to terms with the fact that she literally could die at any given moment, given all of the relationships that she currently had. The Devil, a demon, a couple of cops, but she wasn't sure how they all fit together. Being friends with the Devil alone should have been cause for concern, but it was just a normal day for her now.
Listening to her explanation of her loathing, Linda nodded, jotting a couple of things down about it. Religions on Earth had always revered the Gods of their religion, even though there were many. She didn’t quite understand how he could be so admired if he was as awful as Lilith described him to be. She hadn’t met him as of yet, but she was kind of expecting it to happen any day now, especially with her circle of friends being who they were. Lilith seemed like she was always very put together, and that she was very calculated in her decisions, and that likely all stemmed from her experiences in the Garden when she was banished. Everything that the woman said really had a deep root in that hatred. But there was also immense power hiding under the exterior, she had figured that out on her own. “Interesting.” She quietly noted, looking back up at Lilith from her notes.
The moment of interest did not go unnoticed by Linda. Lilith was proud of Maze, and she was happy to hear it, but just as soon as it came, it left, and she was back to nonchalance. Linda was always proud of Maze too, if she was being honest. Being that her best friend was a demon, and she really had learned to open up to people she’d never expected, like Trixie, the doctor had her own proud moments. “It’s alright to be proud of her. And it’s alright to be proud of yourself for opening up with her when you do.”
A small, knowing smile curled up on her lips, and Linda leaned forward a little. “Here’s a little secret, Lilith. She’s not that different from us. Not being a human to begin with doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have emotions to share. She just learned to repress them and is just starting to learn that they can be healthy.”
She laughed a little at the comment of tying Maze up with Hellfire. She’d probably enjoy that, now that Linda was thinking about it, but that was beside the point. She shrugged a little. “I think she'd be more willing to talk and to listen than you give her credit for, Lilith. But,” she paused, tilting her head a little as she thought about it, “It might take a few tries at the conversation before Mazikeen thinks you’re serious about it.”

How she became the lucky one who got all the supernatural and celestial patients, she wasn't sure, but obviously word had gotten around, and her schedule was fairly full most of the time. Likely because of her friendship with Lucifer, if she was being honest, but here she was, it was like any other Tuesday. She sometimes just had to take things in strides, and Leila was one of those things she'd needed to very much take in stride.
But they'd made progress over time, and she was glad that Leila felt comfortable enough with her to have told her the things she had.
"I know, but I see you. I know what's behind that mask, and this is a safe space for you. The real you has kept you alive when a lot of other pretty faces are gone." Linda knew the stats about how many in the sex work industry would go missing with no follow up on their cases. At least Linda didn't have to worry about Leila being just another part of the statistic.
@devilstherapist asked: ❛ Everyone hides who they are at least some of the time. ❜
DEXTER SEASON ONE SENTENCE STARTERS
: { Leila } :
"And when it has to be all of the time, Linda? The real me is dangerous, no one thinks twice about a sex worker with a pretty face."
She's endlessly exasperated with her therapist, but Linda has also had the most patience with her over the years, even when Leila stops coming to sessions, or self-sabotages, or any number of things. Linda's the only one who understands Leila and her heritage, and that's a rare thing.

Damn. She was good.
"I did, yes." Because there were actual issues that Lucifer wanted to work on, and some he didn't, but she was working up to it, Linda had thought it best to stop their relationship when she did, even if he was very good at what he did. Would she have gotten in trouble with the ethics board, if that information were to ever leave her office? Absolutely, and she would likely lose her license. Has her resolve gotten ironclad since then? Yes. She still finds it difficult to say no when Lucifer even hints at the idea, but she solidly stands her ground.
She did have to say that she was glad that Lilith didn't judge, or despise her for sleeping with Lucifer. In fact, the look on her face said intrigue, maybe? About what? Linda would have to crack that later, because she needed to focus on their current conversation. That was clearly getting somewhere. "He really does. In fact, he did start our sessions saying something along the lines of being intoxicating." She remembered that, because it was true. And yet she'd been able to quit, almost cold turkey.
When Lilith got up to wander her office again, Linda did her best to watch her, curious about what the other was thinking. Watching the plant perk up made Linda confused. How? Again a thought for later. She had started to form a question but thought better of it, focusing on her description of Lucifer's need. "Yes, he… is infatuated with the idea that he could prove God wrong. I haven't figured out why he's so infatuated with it yet, but we are working on it."
That was one of those subjects that if Linda didn't ask the perfect question in the right moment, Lucifer went off on a tangent rather than focusing on bettering himself. "Do you feel like having that step of separation from Him gives you the ability to separate your feelings about him better? Obviously you have a distaste for him, but I don't think it's quite as deep of a loathing as Lucifer's is."
Every mother wanted their children to be strong, and smart, and know their worth. It was built into their beings, from what Linda could tell after all of her years of schooling. She could see that calling them her children was difficult, and with the amount of loss she had suffered over all this time, she could understand why. "Maze is amazing at a lot of things. She is my roommate when she's not in Hell, and probably my best friend at this point. She's grown a lot since Lucifer came to Earth, and I don't think her growth was by choice." She smiled for a moment, knowing that Maze was going to lose her mind if she found out that Lilith had been in her office for a session. "You instilled in them so many good qualities. You should be proud."
Nodding, Linda laced her hands back in her lap. "Yes, and it's going to be uncomfortable, and it's likely that you'll both hate the entire conversation, if I know anything about how much Maze hates talking about feelings, but if you want to rebuild your relationship with her then yes. You need to tell her."
devilstherapist:
Linda preferred working with women much more than men, because they understood that unwritten rule that all women shared subconsciously, and it was comforting in a way to know that it rang true, even with the immortal women. Not that Linda condoned any of the male population’s behaviour, but it was nice to know that she wasn’t making it all up. So the fact that it literally had been that way since the dawn of time gave Linda a small feeling of comfort, somehow. Women had always been treated differently, and then men wonder why they lash out the way they do…
The grin mixed with the other woman’s words all were very true and told her quite a bit about how their relationship used to be. Lucifer was very much intoxicating, and he knew it. Sometimes it worked in his favour, and sometimes it didn’t, which was why he usually came to see her lately. “I can relate. He’s very charming, and can be very attractive when he wants to be.” Sometimes, Linda did wonder if he laid the charm on extra thick, so he didn’t have to talk about a particular topic. There were many things she wondered, like that. “I think that he thinks differently, because he’s a fallen angel, and he had decidedly made the point of trying to prove that his father isn’t always in the right, from the moment he rebelled and even now, all these years later, he’s still trying to prove that.”
Ah. There, again, was the hyper independent streak showing. Linda knew it was quick to rise, from Maze, and clearly it was the same in Lilith. She didn’t like relying on other people, because they’d let her down for millenia, and she felt like she needed to prove to the world that she didn’t need any one person to help her. Yet, here she was, making great strides in learning what she actually needed in a short amount of time.
Linda gave a small smile, and nodded. “I’m sure Mazikeen feels the same way. You’re both very strong personalities, and strong willed women, so it may take a while. But it’s really going to start with a conversation, to let her know that you’d like to rebuild your relationship with her.”
Lilith cocked her head a little, biting her lip as she studied the therapist, peering into something that she didn’t require any supernatural gifts to read. It was obvious, and undoubtedly inevitable.
“You slept with him,” She surmised aloud. There was no accusation, and certainly not judgement; it was nothing more than a statement, one that there was absolutely no point in denying. “He has that effect. When he wants to,” She added with a smirk. It wasn’t exactly rare, and nor was it something that would normally draw Lilith’s attention…if not for the fact Linda had very obviously stopped. A woman who gave into the devil’s charms was only human, but one who could resist them was impressive.
“And Lucifer is entirely right about his Father,” Lilith added, getting up from her seat to study the ever so slightly wilting plant in the corner. “He’s more often in the wrong than in the right. I know that as much as Lucifer does. The only difference is I don’t feel any…inane desire to prove it.” She ran her fingers over the plant and it sprouted into colour and life, growing a little more, spreading a little further. Lilith studied her work for a moment, before looking back over at Linda. “But he’s not my Father. Only my…unfortunate Creator.” Perhaps that made it more personal.
“That’s what I wanted, for all of my…children” The word felt difficult on her tongue. “To be strong. So that no one could hurt them, so there’d be no weaknesses to use against them. Mazikeen excelled at that more than any of them.” The fact she’d become what was essentially Lucifer’s right hand was proof of just how successful she’d been, how much she’d achieved.
Lilith took her seat once again, looking at Linda uncomfortably. “I have to tell her?” She asked, sounding less than enthusiastic. “Just…share everything?”

She had become very skilled at usually keeping her face neutral when people divulge information to her. But hearing how little Mulan slept, and how long her days were, had the doctor wondering how she wasn't having a more visible mental health crisis. That amount of sleep was not enough for anyone, and it most definitely should not have been sustained long term. Linda noted that down so that she wouldn't forget to talk about it.
She simply nodded, as she listened to Mulan explain. That was a lot, and it did make her wonder what or who conditioned her to be that way, and if they understood the ramifications of what it was doing to the young woman's health long term. Hearing that her family had money issues, she understood the signal for it instead. "Ah, I see. Don't worry too much about it, I understand." She noted that down on the paper, another topic to circle back on, either during this session or perhaps the next one.
That all made sense to her. Clearly she needed to find a friend who could teach her to cook on American appliances. Linda could see how that could be a major barrier. Noted.
"Can you tell me more about your work, and what classes you're taking?" If Linda could break down more of who she was and her motivations in life, she could likely pick apart more of her psyche to get to the roots of her issues. Obviously she was here for a reason, and Linda wanted to help her with that, even though the doctor knew it would take some time to get there.
mulan was unsure of how to answer her, for she could not help but wonder if there was there a right or wrong answer to the question ? talking to any in general of her day, let alone her FEELINGS was something new to her, for it never had been an interest of anyone within her past. she knew that if her father were here in the states with her, she would NOT be here, but considering her arrival nearly three months ago, she had been informed by her 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋𝐎 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐁𝐎𝐑𝐒 that some of her routine was TROUBLING.
❝ i am unsure, ❞ she stated softly, voice barely above a whisper as she HESITATED to answer. ❝ i had just finished my shift when i got home, and slept only for perhaps an hour or two before waking to do as i stated. for me this is a normal habit, but my neighbors do not take KINDLY to it. ❞ pausing she lifted her gaze to glance at the therapist, head tilting slightly as she 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐒. it was a habit her father had from childhood, to watch and see how the other HANDLES themselves when talking for it spoke volumes of their character.
yet as she watched she could not help but see that she herself was being observed, from each glance aimed in her DIRECTION, it was noted upon what she was doing and perhaps even more on her reactions. ❝ growing up, meals were often missed due to issues of ━━ ❞ pausing once again, her brows furrowed together as she tried to REMEMBER the word in english. unable to think of it, she motioned her thumb and middle finger together, to explain how her family had lacked finances to afford certain resources, ❝ the word is for money but the exact wording has slipped my tongue. ❞ shaking her head she moved on such a thought, knowing that later it would come to her once more.
❝ but things here are from different then home. your STOVES for example seem so strange to use. on my families farm 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐎𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐑 and easier to use then here. where i once thought i could cook, i now set FIRE instead for the flames itself is different. ❞ sighing mulan could not help but miss cooking a little bit, though truth be told she was used to NOT eating as much as others. ❝ i now wait until i am at work or if i have time in between classes to eat. ❞

Linda gave a small smile, and nodded. "I'm sure Mazikeen feels the same way. You're both very strong personalities, and strong willed women, so it may take a while. But it's really going to start with a conversation, to let her know that you'd like to rebuild your relationship with her."
devilstherapist:
“Yes, exactly.” Linda absolutely had to be very strict with her thoughts and her words with both her patients and her friends, as sad as that sounded. She did find that with Lucifer she could be slightly less strict but she was still somewhat particular with how she likely said something to him because he usually twisted it to his version anyways. “It’s so true. And I find that because of that, women tend to be tougher shells to crack.“
Hearing Lilith’s explanation of Lucifer, it took Linda a moment to stifle a laugh and keep her composure, because she knew it was true. "Oh yeah, he definitely flips things to fit his narrative, any chance he gets. And that is absolutely the plan. I will keep that notebook locked away forever, if I can.” Linda preferred to keep her thoughts to herself. Much safer.
Having Lucifer’s ex wife, and literally the first woman asking her professional opinion was a bit shocking. Her voice was suddenly caught in her throat, and she stared at Lilith for a long moment, mostly to gather her thoughts. “Well…"
Jeez, where did she start?
Knowing how deep the hyper-independence ran with Lilith’s bloodline, from being so close with Maze, it was so tough to say where the best place to start was. Linda pressed her lips together and took a deep breath. "I guess that depends on what you mean? Do you want my input on how you move forward? Or how you could begin to rebuild relationships with your children? What kind of resolution are you looking for?”
Lilith smirked with the confident amusement that this psychologist knew precisely what she was talking about when it came to Lucifer; that while he could be compelling, charming, even intoxicating, he was for the most part filled with far more denial and complications than a celestial being should be expected to be. And that there was no being in all of the realms upon which reverse psychology worked more…effectively.
“What do you expect from an angel? And a fallen one at that. He was created by a God, told that he was light itself essentially, that he was, by his very nature, better than any creature that walked on the little playpen of an earth his father had decided to also create,” Lilith said, looking at Linda with an intense and quiet honesty, “So many of them don’t just flip things to fit their narrative, they believe that’s how it should be, that everything–and everyone– should bend to their will, their idea of things. The fact Lucifer doesn’t think that way….” She gave a small shrug and leaned back in her seat, “It makes him understandably complicated. And, when I first met him, understandably attractive,” She flashed a devilish smile.
After a life only in the Garden, a life filled with Adam and God and everyone telling her what to do, telling her she was lesser, that she needed to submit, meeting Lucifer with his vibrant, independent perspective, his defiance, had sparked a passion in Lilith that had been far too strong to ever burn out entirely. Even if their relationship had, admittedly, shifted over the millennia.
Lilith took a deep breath, cocking her head a little as she considered Linda’s question. “I’m happy with who, and what, I am, and I’m more than capable of moving to wherever I want by myself,” She paused, pressing her lips together in contemplation, momentarily debating whether to confess what she truly desired or not, “I wish to…repair my relationship with Mazikeen,” She finally admitted, though she shifted uncomfortably in her seat, awkward with the…voluntary vulnerability, “I find that I…dislike how things are”

Watching the young lady settling on the couch in whatever way she felt most comfortable was interesting, because it told Linda a lot about how she conducts herself in her daily life. She seemed to be very strict in her disciplines, which can be both a positive and a negative.
The way her legs were tucked seemed like a comfort, and the hands on her knees showed respect, she thought. It was hard to tell, and she couldn't get a good read on what her state of mind was, because of how disciplined she was. Very interesting.
The explanation of her morning had Linda nodding along, she was right. Extremely disciplined. She had met a few folks over her time who had done martial arts, and that was a good tell about their personality, she supposed. "So it's been a busy morning for you already then?"
Food was always a great place of commonality, and she found that a lot of folks could easily start there. "Well I think that depends on your taste, how much time you have to prepare it, and if it's just for yourself, or other people. I know if it's just me, I'll just have a bowl of cereal, or maybe a bagel with butter and jam. If I have friends coming over, I'll likely make pancakes or French toast, eggs and either bacon or sausage patties."

“That’s okay, take all the time you need.” Linda knew what it was like to start therapy and not really know where to start. “I always find it gets easier with practice.” She took a sip of her water, nodding before adjusting her glasses. “My morning’s been lovely, thank you for asking. I had breakfast with my best friend, and met a lovely young man who played saxophone on the street a few blocks from here. How about you, how’s your morning been so far?”
she listened to the doctor, her voice a small COMFORT as she shifted herself upon the sofa. to try and ease her mind, mulan’s shoes rested neatly on the floor, towards the side of the seating, for it was still NEW to her that shoes front he outdoors to be allowed inside. her legs moved underneath her, the kneeling position something of an EASEMENT as it reminded her of her childhood 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐋𝐄𝐅𝐓 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐃.
❝ your morning sounds like an adventure told in a story. ❞ she confessed softly, her mind curious on the nature of what it was like to eat with a friend. her fingers moved to rest on her knees. dark eyes flickered to follow her movements, STUDYING her almost before blinking at the question. ❝ i thank you for asking as well… i have been up since three thirty in the morning, to start off my day i have had TEA then two hours of meditation followed by a few hours of 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐒 𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄. then i showered before i had another cup of tea, so that when i arrived here i would be presentable enough. ❞
pausing for a moment mulan tilted her head to the side eyes slightly distant for a moment, ❝ can i ask you something ? what is a COMMON breakfast to have in the states ? i am used to not eating so early, but where i come from it is 𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐆𝐄. ❞

winter rush day 22
Linda loved being in southern California, because it was warm almost all year long, and she could enjoy the beach at Christmas time. She was unabashedly laying on her towel, a ways away from the crowds, enjoying her peace and quiet when she heard the quiet sandy footsteps coming closer.
"I'm off duty." She muttered, loud enough for whoever it was to hear.

“ my owls , ” lilith confirms. it is unsurprising that their history is so obscured. lilith watches as some of the birds PREEN at being so claimed , while others stare the newcomer , and even more flock away , a deafening sound. some do not look away though they fly off , a promise that they will be watching , waiting , protecting. they do love to play with their food.
the queen smiles indulgently.
“ when the world was green , my ex-husband was charged with naming the animals. ” this part of the story , at least , should be familiar. there is screeching at the mention of adam ; the birds do not care for his memory. “ he placed importance on the LARGE creatures , the ones who could do us harm if they had a mind to. ” lilith names predators in the language before babel , their original names. she prattles off a list of large cats , lizards , bears , before translating them to linda.
“ initially , he paid no thought to the little animals. adam had his priorities. he thought in giving name to the larger creatures , we could speak of them and warn one another of coming danger. ” it was not an entirely unfounded idea. “ while he completed his job , i explored. ” the earth was young and vast and beautiful. eden was GLORIOUS. there was much to see and do and enjoy. it was how she best thought to honor the lord : to see all he had given them. adam disagreed. he had always been yahweh’s favorite. lilith shakes her head , freeing her thoughts of that history. it would do no good to enrage herself now. “ an enormous bird joined me. she was such a pretty dusky brown , with amber eyes that followed my every movement. ”
she scratches an owl’s large head. “ she was my first friend. when my ex-husband finally got around to naming her , he did so in my honor ; it was a gift. he bestowed upon the entire species the name i had given my friend. ” lilith speaks the name in the language before babel. “ it translates to owl in english. when i was banished from eden , she did not forget. she told her children , and their children , and onward. they are the first beasts to fall. that they did so in my honor is … humbling , ” lilith agrees.
Hearing the confirmation didn't make it any easier to hear that they were hers. The doctor clearly hadn't done enough research into owls over the years, obviously. Linda and Lilith seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot to begin with, and Linda being in a relationship with Michael didn't seem to help the fact at all. All the doctor could manage was a nod in understanding with the confirmation.
Yes, that part sounded familiar, and the sudden screeching startled her a little. But it subsided quickly enough, and she was fascinated in hearing them all in the original language before the translations. She understood Adam's thought of warning systems and protecting their family, but ignoring the small animals seemed neglectful in Linda's opinion. She would have done things differently she supposed, but given that she wouldn't have known where to start either….
"Wow." Hearing the true history of the birds that had always been good guide posts for her, really gave Linda a humbling feeling, with all of that knowledge. There were so few people who knew that info with such great detail, she felt privileged knowing the intricacies now. "Thank you, for sharing. I appreciate that so much. Hearing what they were called, is beautiful too. And that's something no one would ever have shared with me, I think. So hearing it straight from you is very cool. So thank you for that."
Maybe Lilith wasn’t as bad as she thought? Hard to tell, in her professional opinion. She did find it interesting that Lilith also found it humbling. Maybe that was the feeling the birds bestowed. Things to think about.

"That's okay, take all the time you need." Linda knew what it was like to start therapy and not really know where to start. "I always find it gets easier with practice." She took a sip of her water, nodding before adjusting her glasses. "My morning's been lovely, thank you for asking. I had breakfast with my best friend, and met a lovely young man who played saxophone on the street a few blocks from here. How about you, how's your morning been so far?"

“As women, we always have to…monitor what we say, constantly gauging whether we can speak our mind, and just how much we can share without being…judged or condemned for it,” Lilith elaborated further once Linda confessed she had experienced similar things herself. It wasn’t a surprise; she was a woman after all, in a profession that had, originally, been the exclusivity of men. No doubt there were certain challenges there that no man would have to face. “It’s something we all learn, no matter our…respective origins” It was the one singular thing that Lilith knew could be shared between all mortal woman– and the immortal. That they were all judged simply because of the gender they happened to be.
“Lucifer would never judge you for being a woman, or challenge your abilities because of it,” She admitted. The fallen angel had a greater grasp of equality and just how much women were capable of far more than any of the celestials that had stayed in the heavens and their Father’s good books. “He just doesn’t like being told things he doesn’t want to hear” She concluded simply with a shrug. “My advice is to never let him see that notebook” She told her pointedly, “Not unless you’ve concluded that he’s ready to read the thoughts you’ve…kept back from him”
There was none in all the realms that could throw a tantrum like the devil. Depending on the situation Lilith found it thrilling and exciting, but when it was a…grossly overexaggerated reaction it mainly only bored her.
You made your children independent, because you weren’t allowed that. Lilith’s eyes widened a little with genuine and unhidden surprise. She had to admit she’d never considered that her formative experiences had played such a part in her decisions, but she also couldn’t deny that it rang…uncomfortably true. She bit her lip, cocking her head a little in consideration of both this private revelation as well as the insights into Mazikeen’s state of mind, wondering just what precisely she wanted to do with all this…new information. Eventually her gaze came to rest on Linda again, her blue eyes fixed on her.
“What, in your professional opinion, do you suggest?”
"Yes, exactly." Linda absolutely had to be very strict with her thoughts and her words with both her patients and her friends, as sad as that sounded. She did find that with Lucifer she could be slightly less strict but she was still somewhat particular with how she likely said something to him because he usually twisted it to his version anyways. "It's so true. And I find that because of that, women tend to be tougher shells to crack."
Hearing Lilith's explanation of Lucifer, it took Linda a moment to stifle a laugh and keep her composure, because she knew it was true. "Oh yeah, he definitely flips things to fit his narrative, any chance he gets. And that is absolutely the plan. I will keep that notebook locked away forever, if I can." Linda preferred to keep her thoughts to herself. Much safer.
Having Lucifer's ex wife, and literally the first woman asking her professional opinion was a bit shocking. Her voice was suddenly caught in her throat, and she stared at Lilith for a long moment, mostly to gather her thoughts. "Well…"
Jeez, where did she start?
Knowing how deep the hyper-independence ran with Lilith's bloodline, from being so close with Maze, it was so tough to say where the best place to start was. Linda pressed her lips together and took a deep breath. "I guess that depends on what you mean? Do you want my input on how you move forward? Or how you could begin to rebuild relationships with your children? What kind of resolution are you looking for?"
