Fiyori hau field : Gaafu Dhaalu atoll : Maldives

Hau is the long reed grass grown in this wet field. This is the grass that is cut, dried and dyed, and for used for Thundu Kunaa weaving in Huvadhu atoll. Fiyori women are the prime farmers of hau grass. The dried hau is carried to Gadhdhoo, where they weave it into a thundu kunaa.

This video was filmed on the way to the hau field in Fiyori. The roads, houses, moss, and vegetation feel wet, dense, and fertile from the rain that had been coming and going, from the dense quietness of the surroundings, and from the presence of the unknown.
