Our local regular station has moved #wickham #refillstation #zerowaste #community Posted @withregram • @allgoodthingsofwickham #importantupdate #readme On Friday morning, the shop was flooded with run-off from the field behind. Thankfully, no stock or equipment was damaged and the torrential downpour was quite short lived. However the laminate floor was sitting on a pool of water. Upon inspection it was established that we would have to pull out 50% of the shop, and the flooring to clean up, replace the flooring with new and effectively rebuild our custom stockroom. You may know that we were not particularly happy with our location due to the lorries, dust, size etc. and I wasn't enamoured with having to spend hundreds of pounds on a new floor. Fortunately, community spirit has prevailed and Wickham Community Centre offered us The Wickham Room as a temporary solution! This weekend we have cleared out the old shop, and I'm currently sat in a half-built new shop that I hope to open on Wednesday! We are in such a lovely environment here, with the play park and car park directly outside. We also have our own front door. I will post more photos as soon we are a bit more sorted, but in the meantime, please help us to spread the word of our move by sharing this post as much as possible. I hope to avoid too many wastes trips to Shedfield for people. Thank you all for your support and kind words over the last couple of days. “We’ve been here in this crying year, at a crossroads in time you can make a stand” #lyrics loved this view from our album fresco live gig in the summer. We’re definitely at a crossroads in time where we’re all having to innovate and do things differently. We played some music for friends and neighbours and brought a few showgirls in from @manicsp_entertainment to bring some visual entertainment. This is our friend Gareth listening from his vantage point on the compost. It was a lovely atmosphere and great for us to get together and play for you. Music and the arts has always brought people together, we’re just having to think about how we can do it safely at the moment. Sending love to everyone. Loved this day playing in the field sand trees with my goddaughter. I hope she can do the same with her kids one day. 🌳 🌳 🌳 I was moved by these words I recently read, by Satish Kumar. “True transformation will come from the grassroots, from the bottom up, from the people themselves. When the environmental or green movement pins its hopes on change of government policy and action, they are pinning it on something that cannot be achieved. Unfortunately many many people do not understand the unthinkable position we are in. To not be able to work and do what we love is heartbreaking enough without worry as to how we pay the bills and continue to keep our life’s work and businesses afloat. The irony really is that every person in the events industry could safely organise absolute any situation with H&S RAs etc at the absolute heart of it and has done for years! Ultimately let us work safely and if not support us. Oof, tough day yesterday. Say aye if you’ve had a hard day lately. Particularly when you can’t do so many of the things I would normally do to help cope with tough days, the ‘little things’ seem so much bigger. Unnecessary rudeness, unkindness. Why do people think it’s ok to treat others like that? Why should we accept that from other people? Much of the time I can meet that with compassion - maybe they’re having a terrible day - but I just ran dry yesterday. I’ve spent much of my working life feeling like I’m swimming upstream and for the most part I’ve revelled in the journey but very occasionally I feel totally run aground. Normally I keep this to myself. It takes a lot of energy to keep swimming sometimes, especially during times like this, and now our government is actively seeking to destroy our industry, pffft 🤷♀️ wtfp . BUT you can’t let the b@$¥$€£&s get you down! I’m so grateful for you gorgeous people who hugged (husband!) and listened, made me laugh, sent love and inspiration my way yesterday. Chris, Beth, Viv, Konnor, Billy, Mum. And that was just yesterday. I’m so lucky to have so many of you. You keep my boat afloat. Sending love to anyone who’s struggling at the moment. I would like to say a big thank you everyone who has supported our little family and the changes we have faced in the last few years. Today our beautiful, brave, funny, big hearted girl is expanding her horizons in this new and bizarre world. We’re so proud of her for so many things, but especially how she has dealt with the uncertainty young people have faced since March. This is your time kids and you can still rock this place. I’ve always loved playing unusual, quirky venues with character. This is The Square Tower in Portmsouth Harbour, built by Henry VII in 1494. You can put tea lights in the walls inside where the odd brick has crumbled away a bit, and the acoustics are amazing. Always a beautiful atmosphere. Love this place.
