Okaahan and I took a trip out to Little Yoshiwara this evening to see their play “Ashikari.” I really enjoyed the costumes.
If you’re in world, you can see the play tomorrow at 2pm SLT.

Some IRL news on the karyukai.  Super secret info: my favorite name line is Mame. (⁄ ⁄^⁄ᗨ⁄^⁄ ⁄) I wonder if it has anything to do with my rl friend’s obsession with the mameshiba commercials.

March 6th, 2022: A new geiko has been born! Mametama (豆珠) of Ninben (亻) in Gion Kobu has turned her collar and is celebrating her erikae! Due to the pandemic she is the first celebrant of 2022 and a much welcome sight in the karyukai! Her kimono features pine and dance fans with waves while her obi showcases colorful cranes on a tortoiseshell background ^^ おめでとうさんどす豆珠さん ^o^! Images are courtesy of Mameryo.

Gomen yasu! I completely forgot about my tumblr account! I haven’t posted updates in a year!! I’m so embarrassed. . .ヽ(〃v〃)ノ Quick recap? - I am online in a virtual world called Second Life.  - I am training to become a Second Life Geiko.  - I am a Second Year Maiko as of February. My geimei is Umechō.  - My okiya is a homage to the real life Umeno okiya, because it is Umecha Okaahan’s favorite okiya, and she wants to make the Second Life experience as real as possible. She’s working hard with partners to create our Kamishichiken world for you to enjoy.  - You could say we are a group of super fans of this culture and lifestyle: something we could not do in reality.  - We currently house 2 Geiko, 1 Maiko, 1 Minarai, and 2 Shikomi.  - I believe the okiya does have open enrollment, currently, for those who may be interested in joining. But do be patient with responses. Our first lives have been very active.  - I am planning to open a business on sim. o(〃’▽’〃)o /end recap.
If you are a user of Second Life, please feel free to join our group for notices of events! secondlife:///app/group/31ac39a5-b4f9-8129-cedc-db10ccf2a96d/about

Minaraia
Hello~  Here are some photos from today’s events. Today I became a Minarai and made my first public appearance in ozashiki. My name was also given to me. This will be the name I go by from here on. It is Umechō (梅蝶). My hair was styled into wareshinobu, too.
Some other photos and lengthy explanations can be found on flickr.  https://flic.kr/ps/28uGHk

Kyaaaaa!
I did it!
Today, I had my exam and I passed! This means that I have become an official apprentice. A minarai.
Minarai means a person who learns by observation. I will start to slowly look the part, but not fully participate. I'll be able to focus on how my mentors work and learn from it.
I have a busy day in the afternoon. I will receive my professional name. All of the women at Umeno have names that start with Ume. Ume means plum blossom. It can be an auspicious motif. Ume blossoms are highly seasonal in February where they hark the start of the spring season.
After I get my name, Okaahan will take me to have my hair done into wareshinobu. Wareshinobu is a traditional style that only particularly qualified hairdressers can fix. I can decorate it with shibori cloth and simple pins while I'm not working. I will have to sleep on a special pillow to keep from messing it up.
Later that evening, I will participate in my first ozashiki. It won't mark the official start of my career. It's more like, orientation, or shadowing, if you will.

The dancing fans of Geiko and Maiko of Kamishichiken are made with a similar design, with 2 colored bands made of 3 lines each, over a gold background. However, where the Maiko’s dancing fans have red lines, the Geiko’s dancing fans have green lines.

Hi justine i was navigatkng by YouTube as usual and I find this Master piece https://youtu.be/_4uBHlefihs is Yachiyo inoue IV dancing I wanna ti share ir with You, I was about to ask if this was really her or it was Yachiyo Inoue III due the video quality. But ir really is ver. I have no words ti describe how amazing she is. I don't know if she is still alive. But for sure she is a legend. Do You know somenthing about her? Regards I hope You enjoy it :)
That’s Yachiyo Inoue IV in the video. The caption says that she was 52 at the time, so it was recorded in 1962. She gave up her title of Yachiyo Inoue to her granddaughter in 2000 at the age of 90 and sadly passed away in 2005. She was one of the first women to be given the title of Living National Treasure, a title which was also granted to her granddaughter only a few years ago ^^
