Kandahar (Afghanistan) is facing a big drought, crops and cattle are dying. About a WEEK AGO, 1000's of people gathered to perform the 'Rain Prayer' (صلاة الاستسقاء) the BBC forecasts a week of continuous rain for Kandahar: heavy rainfall has now been confirmed in Kandahar. Salatal-istisqa (prayer for rain) works for true believers, inshallah. After severe drought for many years, it started raining and SNOWING there. Ahmed Khan Qandal, who came from Pakistan in late 1983 at the age of 23 during the reign of King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, never thought that he would spend the next 40 years of his life in Saudi Arabia, specifically as a sanitation worker at Masjid Al Haram in Makkah. Years flew by and today the 61-year-old is a supervisor for sanitation work at the Grand Mosque. His memory is made up of different Saudi events, the most important of which were the second and third Saudi expansions projects of Masjid Al Haram by King Fahd & King Abdullah, and the Ka’abah restoration project in 1996. “Whenever I meet someone new, they tell me how lucky I am to be able to serve the Haram and pray there. I was always near the Holy Ka’bah and this is a great honor. I was blessed to be able to do this work for four decades.” The Pakistani worker witnessed the restoration of the Ka’bah during the reign of the late King Fahd and said it was one of the most important and beautiful stages of his life. “Happiness, love, harmony, tolerance, mercy, and peace can be found in all corners of Masjid Al Haram,” he said. “Where Muslims coming from all over the world come to praise Allah.” . . This video went viral recently in Turkey, where it appears a man was performing acts of ṣalāh in the middle of a busy road. We shouldn’t be judging anyone, but it is important we educate ourselves and others. The Prophet ﷺ said "the earth has been made a mosque for you, so wherever you are at the time of prayer, pray there" [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 521a], but that doesn't mean you can cause inconvenience to others. Islam isn't a selfish religion, and places importance on looking after people around you, and this includes when performing acts of worship. This video might be an extreme example, but even the way we park our cars when going to the masjid and obstructing pathways can negatively impact someone. We are taught that "removing of harmful things from the pathway is a ṣadaqāh" [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1009] which is another example of the merits of looking after your surroundings, and thinking about others.
