I hope nintendo makes more games named after a complex emotion like metroid dread or mario wonder. I wanna play donkey kong ennui and fire emblem contempt
Two idiots decided that they weren't going anywhere in life and thought they should go to college to get ahead. The first goes in to see the counselor, who tells him to take Math, History, and Logic.
"What's Logic?" the first idiot asks.
The professor answers by saying, "Let me give you an example."
"Do you own a weedeater?"
"I sure do."
"Then I can assume, using logic, that you have a yard," replied the professor.
"That's real good!"
The professor continues, "Logic will also tell me that since you have a yard, you also own a house."
Impressed, "Amazin!"
"And since you own a house, logic dictates that you have a wife."
"That's Betty Mae! This is incredible!" The idoit is obviously catching on.
"Finally, since you have a wife, logically I can assume that you are heterosexual," said the professor.
"You're absolutely right! Why that's the most fascinatin' thing I ever heard! I can't wait to take that logic class!!"
The idiot, proud of the new world opening up to him, walks back into the hallway, where his friend is still waiting.
"So what classes are ya takin'?" asks the friend.
"Math, History, and Logic!" he replies.
"What in tarnation is logic???" asked his friend.
"Let me give you an example. Do ya own a weedeater?" he asked.
i’m obsessed with the mum from ponyo. driving single lane on a cliff edge? drift those turns in your nissan cube. husband has to work an extra shift? tell him to fuck off in morse code. pet fish turned into a child on your driveway? adopt her. town drowned in a tsunami? leave your 5 year old in charge, he’s the man of the house now
I think reading folktales is the best antidote to Cinemasins everything-needs-a-logical-explanation brainrot, and by folktales I don't mean the disneyfied versions made to fit modern narrative sensibilities of three act structure and want versus need character arcs, I mean the unprocessed versions harvested straight from the mouth of some elderly european hick and thrown straight into the page with no revisions. The ones where a frog hops from inside a bathtub to tell the queen she's with child then disappears never to be seen again, where a chopped arm can grow anew from its stump like a willow, where a mother gives birth to a talking baby riding a goat. Some of you could use a bit of dreamlike absurdity with no explanation but the themes it represents, not the mechanics that allow it.
You know what really fucking Annoys Me about internet censorship is stuff like swear words being heavily censored because that's entirely an American cultural hangup being forced on the rest of us. I don't know a single country where swearing is as taboo as it is in America. In fact most languages have swear words that would have the same effect on an American as giving a Victorian chimney sweep a pepsi max cherry.
people’s dismissal of history as a worthwhile subject of attention really begins to make sense when you see these utterly baffling takes like ‘today we all have to work to earn money and pay rent, I wish it were [Roman antiquity / the Middle Ages / the Renaissance] and I could just lounge in an orchard somewhere playing the lute’ etc. … even when they fall short of transparent fantasies of aristocratic luxury, this idea that people [general] worked less and had access to fresh food and could afford wine, is divorced from reality. even short of ‘oh, and who is gathering the harvest in this scenario?’ - which is an extremely valid question - I also just feel: aren’t you bored? of this image you’ve invented, of whole centuries, completely without detail? and I wouldn’t understand why people study history either if I thought it were all one big monotonous swathe of Nice.
