The practice of gratitude provides existential perspective.

As creatures focused on survival, there is no time for gratitude. One must focus on the next threat, the next obstacle, and all the ways things can go wrong.

As creatures of awareness, we can take deliberate moments to reflect on the wonderful things in our lives, the people we love, and celebrate what has gone well. It is its own reward to be capable of recognizing, acknowledging, and feeling love for what is already here.

The creature of survival lives in an atmosphere of fear. The creature of awareness lives saturated by love and abundance.

Notice that this doesn’t require someone to ignore the things to which the creature of survival pays attention. We need to remain mindful of obstacles and threats and the like. But if we don’t take the time to savor and love what we already have, we will live as if we have nothing.

In this way, gratitude provides an existential perspective by broadening our mood beyond our day-to-day circumstances. It is not about focusing on the positive and ignoring the negative; it is the means to cultivate a heart that cherishes.

I dont know how else to explain it to people.

Others just don’t seem to choose me. Everyone has moved forward in their lives because of exchanges of energy and people.

I have done the best I can without that vital lifeblood of energy exchange.

And now I realise it comes not from being isolated at school but from my parents always choosing my sister over me. It comes from them being fundamentally unable to ever give me anything without me asking.

I don’t feel gratitude for things because I’ve always worked for them. I’ve always asked for as little as possible so it doesn’t fuck with anyone else. I have always always asked or been the catalyst. I am a generator - I’m not meant to function like this so no wonder I’m burnt out and exhausted.

Imagine if very very little came to you without you asking for it, working for it, or making it. It’s exhausting right?

And it comes from my parents and I want to scream.

I really hate it when people don't reply to your texts. Like I get it if it's something like 'bye' or 'I'll let you know' or the conversation has ended. But if your 3 texts into it - what???

It's like someone has left the room during a conversation - it's massively not ok. Maybe I just hate it because it's happened to me way too many times and I always expect it to happen and have to swallow the hate and pain.

This is a seriously underexploited aesthetic. Like yes crystals are all the rage and we've seen salt rock lamps, and there's a French designer doing some cool stuff with lighting forced through prisms of imperfect stone

but I feel like there is SO MUCH MORE OUT THERE to do!

I like all the crystal suncatchers out there, except that the crystals are SO SHINY that every so often a concentrated beam of light meanders directly into your retina. They need to learn to chill out a bit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has thought this. Full disclosure: I haven't read this post in its entirety because I just do not have the mental strength for it today but I have thought about writing a vampire heist film for a very very long time.

I know I’ve said this before but vampires

don’t show up on camera

can fly/scale walls

immune to bullets

can break into any safe by turning into fog or some bullshit

could probably hypnotize security guards as needed

therefore I am in dire need of a heist film where a group of vampires band together to steal back their old stuff from museums

Goddamn is that powerful

As someone who has been living with severe suicidal ideation my entire life I wanna tell you all something, you don’t have to stay alive for yourself. People will say it’s a bad idea to live for external things because they’re temporary, and it’s true living for yourself is ideal but if you’re not to that point yet that’s ok too. 

I’ve lived for my dog for the past 4 years, before that I lived for my snakes, before that I lived for my cat. You can live for whatever needs you and whatever matters to you. Live for your best friend, live for your plants, live for your pets, live for your animal crossing town. Live for whatever keeps you alive and the day will come when you can live for yourself.
