(oral incontinence anon) thank you (all) for posting and replying, i ended up getting a collapsible silicon pet bowl with a soft rim. I can hold it right under my lip so nothing spills down my chin and if i use enough force there's no drips from the side either! it's pink and has a little heart on it btw <3
Oh that's wonderful news!
I'm glad you managed to find something to help you!
I'm a cryptid in Stardew valley. I live on the outskirts of town. I disappear for days on end, purchasing daily one-way tickets to the calico desert. Nobody knows where I go while I'm there. Can occasionally be found fishing at random spots throughout town. I am never not running on at least one triple shot espresso. I take the abandoned minecarts to get around and am frequently seen disappearing into the sewers. I carry a sword for some reason. Once every week or two I will stride into your bedroom to deliver you your favorite meal. I'm a self-made millionaire. I attend all the town events and will go to your concert in the next town over. I have donated approximately 2583 items to the local museum and singlehandedly revitalized the town community center. There are rumors I can talk to junimos. I'm friends with the local wizard
if upon being told about someones illness/condition, your first thought is to say “have you tried X?” i want you to step back for a moment and think to yourself “if i thought of X after hearing about this condition for the very first time, the person who has this condition very likely has thought of this and possibly tried it already”
we are tired of constantly being told to try the same things by people who didnt know our condition existed five minutes ago.
you dont need to offer any solutions or try to fix us. i know it might seem like a polite thing to do or that it shows you care, there are other ways to show us you care.
I've had AFOs for around 7ish years and found work boots that are about 1.5/2 sizes bigger than my regular shoe size to be pretty decent. They're not always the most glamorous shoe but they work and they're so weirdly comfortable?? It's quite easy to get them in smart colours as well so they fit better with uniforms or formal clothing.
Wide-fitting shoes with a lot of toe room and flexible sides are good things to look for. And I've found lace-up shoes to feel the most secure.
I'd always recommend going into a physical shoe shop and trying on pairs with AFOs as a shoe can look like it's going to be perfect at first and then turn out to be a nightmare. But if you can't I do have some resources to check out:
FriendlyShoes: UK based company founded by two mums who know about and have dealt with AFOs. One of them is a physiotherapist. These shoes are specifically designed for AFOs. I do believe they ship internationally and here is a link to their delivery information.
Shoes for AFOs: An article by the Spina Bifida Association. This lists various types of shoes across the age ranges, with notes on how to make them fit better.
A guide to find footwear for AFO’s: A short article by disability activist Chloe Tear that outlines some things to look for in a shoe for AFOs as well as some tips to ensure that the chosen shoe fits better.
Does anyone have recommendations for shoes that fit over AFOs?? Or how to find some that do?? Pls help I'm kinda dying here :///
Here are some fiction books by Palestinian authors about Palestinian characters that I've read and enjoyed!
Whether it's about living under the occupation or teenage diaspora falling in love, it's important to support Palestinian authors and read their stories, especially as attempts at censorship increase
Let me know if you have any recs for me to add to my tbr!
[ID: Edited panel from the comic series "Batman: Wayne Family Adventures". In it, Bruce Wayne appears to be dragging Jason Todd by the back of his jacket out of some kind of gala. Bruce's speech bubble says "We're leaving." in black caps. Todd is shouting at some guests. His speech bubble has been edited to appear as a tumblr post by tumblr user @twinwound. The post reads "mary shelley writing about a monster rejected and abandoned by its creator and dedicating it to her own father i need to smoke a blunt with her i need to give her head". /end]
[ID: Video by TikTok user @jeremyandrewdavis. The video shows two characters, both played by Davis, having a discussion about disability. Character 1 (C1) is wearing a chequered red, white, blue, black and grey buttoned shirt. Character 2 (C2) is wearing a plain brown t-shirt. The camera switches characters depending on which one is talking. White subtitles on a transparent black bar appear in the centre of the screen as the video goes on./end]
Transcript:
C1: Dude, I thought you were disabled. You just carried that a hundred pound air conditioner and stuck it in the window like it was nothing.
C2: I'm disabled. Doesn't mean I'm not strong.
C1: Um, yeah, it kind of does doesn't it?
C2: No. (pause) Okay. Look, you know how, like in video games you have like a health bar or stamina bar.
C1: Yeah.
C2: So for a nondisabled person, like you, your stamina bar might look like this.
[Two long, thin green bars appear above C1, in the upper left corner of the screen. At the left of each bar there is a red heart.]
C2: Where mine looks like this.
[A single green bar appears above C2, in the upper left corner of the screen. There is a red heart at the left side of the bar.]
C2: Now we could break it down into more specifics where I have a health bar,
[green bar changes to a red bar broken into 5 segments by black lines]
a stamina bar,
[green segmented bar appears below red bar, with a green hourglass to the left of it]
a mental focus bar,
[blue segmented bar appears below green bar, with a blue diamond to the left of it]
an emotional bar,
[grey bar appears under blue bar, with grey shield to the left]
a sensory bar.
[yellow bar appears under grey bar, with yellow lightning bolt to the left]
C2: You get the idea, [all bars disappear, original single green bar with heart reappears] but we're just gonna keep it simple for now. You follow?
C1: I get the analogy but...
C2: So we're gonna grossly oversimplify my disabilities and say that my one metric is stamina. Now, every single thing that you do in a day costs stamina.
C1: So like taking a shower?
C2: Yep. Now your character profile has that big bar of stamina. And with your character's constitution, taking a shower might cost you this much.
[C1's lower bar loses a very small amount of green.]
C1: Actually, for me, taking shower, boosts my stamina.
[C1's lower bar regains the lost green.]
C2: So there you go. For me taking a shower costs this much stamina,
[C2's bar loses small amount of green, and continues to gradually drain as he lifts off things]
C2: Then there's brushing teeth, getting breakfast, getting the kids to school.
[C2's bar suddenly depletes to half full. It is now orange.]
C1: Ooh, that one hit.
C2: You're telling me! Now today when I woke up, I found that I had a bigger stamina bar than normal. So I decided to knock out some things that my stamina bar hasn't allowed me to accomplish for like, months...
[Five grey skull and crossbones cover C2's bar]
C1: Like putting in the air conditioner.
C2: Yep.
C1: But now that you've done that look at your stamina bar, what does that mean?
C2: I borrowed against stamina for my next day's gameplay. My character is now going to have to go through a multi-day rejuvenation period of rest to be able to build my stamina bar back up to my average.
C1: I get it. So you're like a level 20 character with a plus 65 damage bonus, but you're playing with a handicap ... L-literally. So basically you get like one big attack and then you're out for the rest of the battle?
C2: Pretty much. It's like most people are playing on easy mode and I have my difficulty level set to "impossible".
C1: Yeah and you're still killing it.
C2: Thanks mate. It sucks sometimes to be sure. I like being able to destroy anything I hit, but I only get one swing per battle if I'm lucky.
C1: Well, I definitely wanna be in your party.
C2: Cuz you know I crush it.
C1: Yeah, you do. /end
