A few drawings based on this pjo inspired fic that i worked on along with @4afs where Adora ends up stranded on a suspiciously beautiful island with a suspiciously beautiful girl. It’s been a joy to work on and we’ve been so excited to finally share it so pls do check it out!

师父 I have a question. Would it be accurate to say that most of the character's birth names have some type of a connection to the meaning of their courtesy names? And if this is the case, and you were to take a stab in the dark, what birth name do you think 晓星尘 would carry? We are never told this in any version, but I feel like we should be able to deduce it from the things we do know.
师父???
师父??????
喂,你们都是从哪儿冒出来的,怎么嘴巴都这么甜
okay, okay, so I got this ask and immediately hit the baidu baike page on 表字 / courtesy names, because while I’m familiar with the practice I’m not familiar with the ins-and-outs of how one comes up with courtesy names
so! armed with the knowledge of Chinese wikipedia, I can tell you that:
courtesy names were usually given to men on their 20th birthday (which is ??? considering that a lot of our characters start out at 16/17 but oh well), and women either at 15 (hah take that) or upon marriage (eh fine)
this has been a practice since like, the Shang Dynasty and didn’t fall out of practice really until the 20th century/May Fourth Movement. But this also means that the names of historical figures you thought you knew (like Chiang Kai-shek, for one!) are actually their courtesy names, not their personal names

hello i just finished cql & my heart is shattered so i’ve been lowkey stalking your blog to dig that knife in a little further ;) one thing i don’t understand is the repeated use of the phrase “i’m sorry & thank you,” is this a weird translation? what is the emphasis trying to convey?
well you’re a very polite lurker and we have shared heartbreak so you’re welcome to linger here :) (goodness know I do)
for once, ‘sorry and thank you’ is a pretty straightforward translation! 对不起 duibuqi or 对不住 duibuzhu (as is sometimes said in the show) really does mean “I’m sorry” – if you want to get a little more into the weeds of related meanings, it also means “to let someone down” in the sense that someone has set the bar of friendship/respect/sacrifice at a certain level, and you can’t match it, so it’s a mix of I’m sorry and I’ve let you down with an apologetic cast to it
谢谢你 xiexieni truly doesn’t have any depths to probe; it’s just ‘thank you’
it’s certainly one of the most iconic/thematic lines of the show for good reason, though, because much of the central conflict in The Untamed is preoccupied with the question of how to be true to yourself (问心无愧 wenxinwukui / to have a clear conscience) without losing track of one’s accountability to others. The first time “sorry and thank you” really comes up in this show (I think; I’ve only actually seen this show once) is when the Wen Remnants bid farewell to Wei Wuxian and go to turn themselves in at Koi Tower; Wen Qing says “I’m sorry,” both for paralyzing Wei Wuxian and for rendering all of his sacrifice (fighting for them against the rest of the world, going into voluntary exile, destroying his reputation thoroughly, estranging himself from his family to save hers) pretty, uh, meaningless. She also says “thank you,” to acknowledge everything he’s done for them. There’s no way this scene can happen without either “sorry” or “thank you” – neither one encapsulates their feelings completely. “Sorry and thank you,” I feel like really gets at the complexity of 江湖恩怨 jianghuenyuan – the complicated interweaving of kindness and resentment, favor and vengeance in the jianghu world

honestly the fact that people can send really cruel and graphic hate messages and threats on this site and remove all accountability for it by just clicking a little button that makes them anonymous is um. how do i put this. vile.

So hear me out...
-WWX and MXY are twins in highschool, who grew up in the Jiang household but moved into an apartment together (pretty standard idea)
-but... MXY's thing is odd T-shirts instead of make-up
-And WWX is pining hardcore but adamantly denies it (and obviously MXY sees straight though his oblivious ass)
-So the story so far is a typical pinning WangXian with Co. in the background all breathing a sigh of dissapointment (especially JC, who has had to stay up many nights to hear what utter perfection LWJ is from WWX)
Now this is where it changes up.
-After much struggle and internal screaming, WWX realizes he is gay for LWJ
-And MXY has a "I Put the Ho- in Homosexual" shirt that is bright pink (courtesy of my sis)
-And WWX borrows that shirt...
-Goes to school...
-And gets f*cking stopped in the hallway by JGY, who is the Hallway Monitor, for the shirt
-Just when he thinks all hope is lost
-There's LWJ all the way on the other side of the hallway
-And in front of everyone he yells out his feelings in a typical WWX fashion
-JC is disgusted; LXC is shocked; NMJ is impressed by his courage; NHS is an observer; and MXY is busting a gut on the floor laughing
-In the end, all is well that ends well
-And their story is told throught the ages
Lol. I am such trash, but I hope you at least enjoyed this!!!
