Is everything okay?

Hello, my sweet, sweet anon <3

Thank you for so much for asking. The last days have been difficult at work.

Now, against all odds, I'm on vacation. I expected to work until late tonight, or even tomorrow, while being off. I don't know how I managed to finish everything I needed to.

If I dig deeper, I have to admit the past year has been tough. I applied for a new position in my company a year ago, and even though the answer was immediate and positive, I still don't have a backfill for my current position (that backfill thing can't happen as long as they don't publish a job offer, but that's another story).

Therefore, I'm workng two jobs and I'm torn between both. I can't even complain: our whole R&D is understaffed.

But the good news is I was able to raise the alert to the right people. I tried a few months ago, but nothing happened, especially that my new manager has been on sick leave for months now. So I now have a new manager, by interim, and .... She's a woman. It seems like nothing, but it changes a lot.

Not only she's experienced and actually care about doing things right, so she helped me more in 3 days that all my managers in a few years.

But also, I expect to get decent feedback from her about my work. Actual feedback that I can use instead of comments about my personality, such as "You're very sensitive", which make me want to scream.

I don't feel in vacation now. I know from experience it will take a a few days for me to adjust and let go. But the first time in a long time, I'm not gonna be scared or depressed about going back to work.

So, this is a lot, especially for a yes/no question, but I guess I needed to clear my head, and the conclusion is not as simple as a yes or a no.

And again, cute anon, thank you so much for caring about me. I wish I knew who you were and just hug you. I hope you are fine as well <3

That's a tough one!

I believe music shapes my life, but not in a way where it would influence me, my behavior.

It's more that sometimes, I'll listen to a song, only to find out it reflects perfectly what I am feeling (or, deeper than that, my principles and values).

Then I fall in love with the lyrics, wondering how someone could write such complicated thoughts and feelings with only a few words.

And this song becomes part of my original soundtrack, you see what I mean?

But still, here are a bunch of that have a special meaning for me:

Yesterday, by the Beatles and Hier encore, by Charles Aznavour => both are very nostalgic

Rame, by Alain Souchon => used to make my brother cry. I guess he understood the meaning sooner than me. It is quite depressing, it's about how hard you try, and no matter what you do, you just can't move forward and have a meaningful life (as I said, depressing).

A lonely september, by Plain White T's and November Rain, by Guns n Roses => I discovered both of them in high school. About breakups and loneliness.

Resistencia, by Ska-p and Talking about a revolution, by Tracy Chapman=> about standing up for what you believe in

On ira, by Jean-Jacques Goldman => to me, the most beautiful lyrics ever written. Both full of melancoly and hope.

Juste après, by Jean-Jacques Goldman => the video clip contains footage of the documentary that inspired the song, and it is breathtaking. The song is about a nurse that saves a baby right after they were born, and makes you wonder what you can possibly do after that.

As usual, a lot of French songs, but this is normal to me as the lyrics matter more to me than the music.

I'm unbreakable.

I went through a lot over the past few years. I'm not gonna tell what happened because I don't want to trigger anyone, and I don't want to think about the list of warnings to put at the beginning of this post.

I won't say either I didn't change, because that's not true.

I changed without realizing it, just enough to adapt and still stand on my feet.

Past experiences forged me. I could have become cold and tough, and full of hate and préjudice, but I haven't.

I am a better person now than I used to be, more empathetic, more compassionate, but also tougher, sometimes fearless, sometimes vulnerable.

And I won't break.

I know how to fight, and I love to share what I know. These are 2 things I love about me.

Before the confinement, I used to teach self defense to women.

One day, after the class, the youngest girl in my class started crying. I took her outside to breathe in fresh air and I sat next to her without saying anything, because I didn't want to pressure her.

When I am in a position of deciding something, or telling someone what to do, I first explain what I have in mind and why, and I listen to what the others have to say.

First, because I don't see why they wouldn't have something interesting to say that would make me reconsider.

Second, because they should have a voice, and they are entitled to be part of the decision, or at least know why I ask these things from them. I would hate someone bossing me around, especially without explanations. And I also hate forceful arguments such as "I'm the one in charge so shut up".

Deciding is basically my job, and I was told this quality was highly appreciated in me.

First I want to say I'm sorry for the delay. I had 2 crazy days at work and I can only check my Tumblr now.

I don't know if you'll have an occasion someday to hear it, but I do have an anecdote in the meantime. Unfortunately, it is usually easier to talk about it instead of writing, because of the intonation, but I'll do my best.

So I was 18, living at my parents' house. One day, the phone rings, and I'm the first one to reach the phone. I say "Hello" of course, and the person says: "Hello sweetie, can you put your mum or your daddy on the phone please?"

The point is, before that, I had no idea my voice was so childish :)
