hiya, i was wondering if you could give me some advice on smth?

i’m planning a story set in a high school and i have two girls that have been secretly dating for the past year and a half. both are pretty open about not being straight (ones bi and ones pan) and the pan one (we’ll call them by their sexualities for convenience) would not care if ppl knew they were dating. however, the bi one doesn’t want ppl to know bc…and that’s where i’m stuck.

a bit of context: the pan one is…a nerd and the bi one is a jock. so it’s kinda forbidden love but no one’s homophobic or anything, they just kept it on the low with the bi one always insisting that they shouldn’t tell ppl.

part of me wants to take the easy route and just put it on the bi one not wanting her image “ruined” but that feels too vain for this character, and i don’t really want that to be the reason. i think rn i have it down as “the bi one likes the exhilaration of sneaking around and no one knowing, and is also scared of change so she doesn’t want to face everyone suddenly knowing and their situation changing”. i actually kinda like that idea and i’m planning that by the end of the story, the bi one realizes she might lose her gf bc the pan one thinks that the bi one doesn’t actually like her bc she won’t be out with her and similar stuff along those lines. i wanna end their part of the story with them talking things out and then finally coming out as being together.

to sum it up, my biggest issue is finding the reason the bi one wouldn’t be out about it. i cant just have her saying “oh i don’t like change” to the pan one, that feels like a shitty excuse and way too deep to be said as many times as i’m planning on having the bi one make excuses. i don’t wanna do vanity and homophobia isn’t really smth i want to work with, but im flexible.

so yeah, can u help me figure out reasons she doesn’t want to be out? sorry if that was too much or too confusing, but thanks!

My first thought was to blame the parents. Maybe the bi girlfriend's parents don't approve, or don't want her dating in high school - you mentioned she's a jock. Could she be working towards a scholarship, and her parents fear that dating is a distraction? In that case, she doesn't want people to know in case her parents find out.

Thought two was to add a drop of backstory that complicates things. Maybe she dated someone in the past, it ended poorly, and she's afraid of what the ex might do to her current girlfriend if they found out. tl;dr, secrecy is protection. Also gives the added spicy possibility of bi girlfriend not wanting to talk about the past relationship, hence why pan gf is unaware of this history.

Thought three: bi gf could have a rep that she doesn't want to drag her girlfriend into. Is she a troublemaker? Could dating her be bad somehow for the pan gf?

Hey so for my world I need a word to describe the magical world.

Not like the actual world but like the people. Ya know? Demons, elves and dwarves?

Im currently using species but its feels very.....degrading.

"Fay/Fae" gets used quite a bit. Otherfolk, Wildlings, Veilwalkers.

Or you can try something more general, like Mages, Magiks/Magics, Arcanes, Arcanum. Try playing around with a common theme they might have; eg: do they only come out at night? Night or shadow can become part of a compound name.

hello! im writing one of those soulmate au's where whatever you write on yourself shows up on your soulmate...it's cheesy as hell but it makes me happy. so.

i need to figure out a reason that my soulmates never told each other their names. for me, if this was real, i'd simply write my name, phone number, address, whatever down on my arm and have my soulmate find me, yknow? i need reasons for my characters not to do that.

for one couple, i have that she simply wasn't allowed by her parents for Reasons and that cleans up that pair; the one with bad parents's soulmate just gave up on writing bc her soulmate wouldn't write back (but she doesn't know it's because of her soulmate's parents). i have that much cleared up.

but i have another couple that is in college that is going to get together later on in the plot but i need to have a reason for them to have spent 20-something years alive without writing their names down on themselves. right now, the only reason i have is that one of them is super dedicated to finishing college and doesn't want distractions, but that doesn't account for their childhood or teen years.

i just wanted to see if you had any ideas, thanks for the help!

Off the top of my head, I would just suggest: make it impossible. Whatever extant, intangible force driving this soulmate magic makes it impossible to transfer certain identifying information to your soulmate. Names, addresses, etc don't go to your soulmate. They simply can't, and that's just the way it is.

Hey, I have a lot of family plots and I really need a reason for my character daughter's to be grounded... Nothing to big or radical, she's a sweet girl and very trustworthy to her father point of view.

I always come here asking about family dialogues because I think your ideas are amazing

Thank you so much! Yeah there's a lot of things that could get you grounded without losing your parents trust. Just depends on how strict the household is:

1. Sneaking something they shouldnt be (like sweets, snacks, etc)

2. Sneaking out/sneaking in later then they were supposed to be home

3. Getting bad grades/failing a class or test

4. Skipping school/class for a bit

5. Pretending to be sick to get out of something

6. Cursing in front of little kids or cursing in front of their parents when they are not supposed to

That's all I can really think of? I do hope it helps

I'm just found this blog, and I have to say that it's really interesting and I appreciate all of the work you (both) do to help people struggling to think of prompts. I do have a question however: Is it possible to get any sort of custom prompt without having to go through Ko-Fi? It's not that I don't want to support all of the wonderful work going on here, but I just can't due to current personal problems. (If I could, I most certainly would.) Hi! So yes, you can. You can request prompts via tumblr ask box. People do it frequently and I've got a couple im working on right now. You can make any request via tumblr. I'll try to get to it as soon as I can, and you'll typically get only between 3 and 6 prompts. Thats the main difference between the kofi where you'd get 15. It also may take longer to get a response.

Hi! I was the one who asked u about the goofy guy and leading girl...to take it more into detail, the girl is leading their group of 5 into a universe even she is not familiar with and the guy makes up for the teasing by apologizing and there are some scenes so i made sure its not sexist...and btw ur dialogues r awesome and m a big fan...they have just created a portal to another world by mistake and she is leading the group by declaring that they have to go in another universe and as everyone is in stress the guy decides to light up the others mood and after he tells the joke even the girl manages put smile...is this too detailed now? Sorry this probably doesn't make any sense

Hi! I am writing about a girl who loves to lead and a guy who is goofy and funny...it is a fiction book thus it is not mainly focused on this ship but i need some development so can u pls pls plssss help me out and give me some dialogues the funny guy can comment when the girl is trying to lead the group thankssss ur a life saver

I am not 100% sure what you're asking for? I am not sure what she leads or what her personality is besides that so that might make it a bit hard. You're also walking a thin line here: If you have a female character that likes to be a in a position of leadership and a guy that's teasing her/making jokes about it, you risk it coming off as kind of sexist so just be careful for that.

I'll give some prompts a try:
