genuinely one of the saddest parts of this new era of the internet is how hard it is to rick roll someone now. with people's attention spans shortening so much, they wouldn't even get through the first few bait seconds before clicking off the video. like i saw a comment that ended with "btw i made all of this up" and the replies kept treating it so seriously because none of them finished the entire 4 sentence comment. and We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I (do I) A full commitment's what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Just found out that the dietary calorie is still measured by burning food in a "bomb calorimeter" and then measuring the heat produced. There's no solid evidence that this method is at all equivalent to how our bodies process food (an entirely different chemical process from combustion), the accuracy of this system has been disputed for as long as it's existed, and there are no available alternatives
There are 4800 calories in a kilogram of dry sawdust even though wood is completely indigestible to humans, because calories don't measure nutritional value, just how well something burns
Nutritional "science" is pure bullshit

Nobody asked but I'm a bug freak so here goes
This is a Meloe Proscarabeus
I happened to stumble upon a lot of these today, which is interesting because they're usually pretty rare.
These beautifully iridescent monster ants looking things are in fact beetles.
Known as the Oil Beetle, these are a type of... uh oh! Blister beetles! So, although they shine like gems under the sun, it is unwise to try to handle them. While you can touch them if you're careful enough, you have to keep in mind that when threatened they will ooze a poisonous blistering fluid. (Hemolymph, so it's like, their blood! They ooze toxic bug blood from their joints to fuck you up. Don't you wish you could?!)
They're sometimes used as an indicator of the quality of life (nature-wise), and seeing them is said to be a sign of a very clean and good natural habitat... ironically, seeing too many of them is not something you'd want, as they are somewhat of a threat to their surrounding environment too since their larvae pray on different species of bees.
The larvae in fact wait on flowers for bees to attach to, when brought back to the nest as uninvited guests they will feed on the eggs and larvae of the bees, as well as their provisions.
A good or a bad sign to see many of them around? Nature has its own balance I guess.
Anyway just wanted to introduce you to these beautiful monsters, the females are around 3cm and between size and shine they're very difficult not to notice. The males are about half their size.
Like most bugs, they spend all their adult life just eating and walking and fucking... no job, no taxes... God I wish I was,, bbugg

this is your daily reminder that it's been over 65 years since cuba overthrew batista's US-backed fascist dictatorship and the US is STILL keeping cuba in extreme poverty using an "embargo."
back in the 1950s, using US funds and US-trained soldiers, batista (not castro) removed most of cubans' rights, including the right to strike, censored all media, and used secret police to torture and publicly excute anyone who protested his dictatorship. In a document released by the CIA in 2005, it stated as many as 20,000 people were killed. In return, batista gave control of most of the arable land to the US. during the revolution, this land was reclaimed and redistributed, which means that USAmericans can now sue anyone who "traffics" in this "confiscated" property.
Despite US sanctions being an "embargo," the US also fines foreign companies for doing business in Cuba, meaning it's effectively a blockade. Despite Obama lightening some of these restrictions, Biden has done little to undo the tightened policies from Trump's administration.
In November, the UN called for the 31st time (!!!) for the US blockade to end, supported by 187 countries and opposed only by the US and its bestest buddy (I'll let you guess who).
Cuba has been in economic crisis for years. Monthly income in Cuba is $30-60. There is very little food and it is hard to purchase anything like toiletries, clothes, and over-the-counter medicines. Domestic production is down because they don't have the resources to sustain them. The US has been intentionally impoverishing and starving Cuba for decades, and they continue to make it clear that it is not going to stop.
So, yeah. US democracy is a joke, end the US blockade on Cuba, and fuck genocide joe.

This is a friendly reminder to never, ever publish your book with a publishing company that charges you to publish with them. That is a vanity press, which makes money by preying on authors. They charge you for editing, formatting, cover art, and more. With most of these companies, you will never seen a cent of any royalties made from sale of your book. A legitimate publishing company only makes money when you make money, they will never charge you to publish with them. If a company approaches you and says "Hey, we'll publish your book, just pay us X amount of money," tell them to go fuck themself and block them.
