Summary: After one summer, everyone wanted Draco’s attention. However, his heart only belonged to you from the start.

a/n: I’ve been working on this one for some time. It’s been a mess (and still is) since my mind has changed so many times about how I should write it.

Something had happened to Draco over the summer. He had become taller, his face structure was more clear — making his face even more beautiful to look at. The way he held himself was in a more mature way. Something about him made you look at him one extra time.

And you were not the only one noticing the significant change in Draco as you stood at the platform to get on the Hogwarts Express. “He looks good, doesn’t he?” Hermione quietly says, only for your ears to hear.

You feel your cheeks warm up, like you just had been caught in something you shouldn’t be doing — staring at Draco one extra time.

“It’s probably the new expensive suit.” You try to laugh off, but you were sure that there was something more than just the suit.

You hear the whistle blow, signaling the last call to get up in the train and take your seats. You manage to find an empty compartment to sit in, but are soon joined by Luna, Cho, and Ginny.

“Have you seen Malfoy?” Ginny curiously asks you all. “We are not even back at Hogwarts and he’s the topic.” Cho chuckles.

As the girls keep on gossiping about how everyone will start to fancy Draco this semester, you decide to find the restroom.

The train corridor is crowded. You try to squeeze yourself between all the students. But with your luck, you walk into someone. You feel a soft, expensive fabric under the palm of your hands. Only one person would afford such nice fabric on his suit. And this person is now holding his hands on your arms.

“I’m sorry, y/l/n, all these students just have to have their conversation in the corridors.” Draco rolls his eyes at them and then gives you a quick small smile. He is annoyed, but not at the fact that you walked into him. He even apologized—which is different from what he would have done before summer.

“Move!” Draco yells at the other students. Giving his famous disgusted expression. He hadn’t fully changed over summer. This was his regular self.

People start to move right away at his word. Leaving room for you to get to the restroom. You quickly mumble a ‘Thank you’ to him before you make your way to the restroom.

Once done, you walk back to the compartment where your friends are sitting. When you open the door to it, that’s when you notice that you find another group of people — Draco and his friends. You had walked to the wrong one.

“What are you doing here?” Pansy’s voice and facial expression shows annoyance. The rest of the Slytherins are waiting for your answer.

“I—” you start off. Of all the wrong compartments you could have walked into, you had to walk into this group of slytherins.

“Pansy, don’t be rude. Y/n can sit here if she wants to.” Draco says. In a normal setting this could have sounded like a joke, but Draco's words sounded genuine. Which also makes his friends to look at him instead

“What?” Pansy asks back, not really believing what she just heard.

“You heard what I said.” Draco coldly says before he turns to you, “You can sit beside me.”

“I just walked in the wrong compartment by accident. Sorry.” You quickly say before you close the door and take quick steps back to find the correct compartment. You had to find your friends to tell them what just happened.

It was not the suit. He looked good in the slytherin school uniform as well. He had loosen up his tie a little. Making him look effortless good.

You were having your last class of the day, and Draco had managed to join the same potion class.

“I will let you pair up two and two.” The professor says and the whole class starts to pair up.

“Draco, you want to be my project partner?” A girl asks. It somehow catches your attention so you look over at Draco.

“No, I’m going to pair up with Draco!” Another girl complains. You see how Blaise has an amused smile on his face, while Draco looks annoyed at all of them.

You see that Pansy is beside Blaise. Her face shows the most annoyment. “Don’t think he will pair up with you. He’s going to work with me.” She spit out the words, making the girls to back off. Pansy looks happy and ready to take the seat beside Draco.

“Actually—” Draco interrupts Pansy. “I’m going to work with y/n.” He says and picks up his books. The girls, Pansy and Blaise are all surprisingly staring at you.

“Hope you don’t mind, y/n.” Draco says and winks to you while sitting down beside you.

You just stare at him confused. “Good!” Draco says, taking your surprise as not complaining about pairing up. He opens his book and turns to the page with the assignment. He just starts reading it like nothing weird has just happened. You, however, still didn’t manage to get any words out.

You look up and see how Pansy angry stares at you — making you feel uncomfortable. Maybe it was just easier if you didn’t pair up with Draco, or Pansy would find you after class.

“Draco, maybe we should just—” you start speaking while looking at the angry stares from Pansy. Draco looks up and follows your eyes. He rolls his eyes before he says with a firm voice “Pansy, don’t!” Making Pansy to back off right away.

“So, which topic do you want us to write about?” Draco gives you a small soft smile.

It actually went pretty well working with Draco, better than you had anticipated. He did take the class seriously and didn’t bother you with anything unnecessary.

As soon as the glass ends you gather your things to get going to the Great Hall for dinner. However, with your luck, Pansy stops you right on your way and drags you around the corner to an empty hall.

“What do you think you’re doing?!” Her eyes show even more annoyance than before. She’s staring you down, narrowing her eyes into you.

Before you answer her, you both hear Draco, “Pansy, don’t you dare!” His firm voice makes Pansy jump a little bit and right away drop the sight of you. She turns around to face Draco who looks mad.

“I told you not to go after y/n.” He stares at her with angry eyes. “So don’t you dare to ever do it again.” He says before he moves closer to you.

“I’m sorry.” Pansy says before she leaves you both alone.

Draco takes your hand. “Did she hurt you?” His eyes are so much softer now as he looks at you. You see a glimpse of worry in his eyes.

“I’m fine. She didn’t do anything other than looking very mad.” You give him a small smile. Something Draco wishes the smile wasn’t over that quickly.

You both make it to the Great Hall, but there, you part ways as you sit at different tables with your respective friends. However, you could feel Draco’s eyes on you for the whole dinner.

However, Draco’s actions towards you were not just anything temporary in the beginning of the semester only. There were different occasions when you noticed him giving you the one attention everyone else seeked.

Another day when you sat in the library to study, you had somehow in your mind decided to sit close to the table with Draco and his slytherin friends.

Draco had lately been so kind to you, and maybe because of that, you found yourself wanting to be closer to him. Now you were pretty sure it was not only the expensive new suit.

Draco is eating cookies from a box while he’s reading a book in transfigurations. He’s been very focused and hasn't looked up much—also why he hasn’t seen you sitting at the table beside.

“Ohh, are those cookies?” Some girls with the slytherin school robes walk past Draco’s table. You can’t help but look over at their table.

Draco is interrupted in his reading, so he looks up. “Yeah?” He says as he thinks it’s the most obvious thing.

“They look delicious. Where are they from?” You can hear in the girl’s voice that she’s trying to flirt with Draco. “My mother sent them.” Draco is short in his responses. Not wanting to talk more than necessary.

“Your mother must have great taste. Can we try one?” The other girls ask, as flirty as her friend.

“No,” is the only response Draco gives. He would never share his favourite cookies.

“He only lets his best friend try.” Blaise happily says and is about to take a cookie out of the box. “No.” Draco is quick to say and snatches the box before Blaise is able to take one. He was for sure not going to share his cookies with anyone.

While doing that, Draco notices you sitting at the table beside. You had been staring at them for the whole cookies-conversation. He waves at you, but decides to come over to your table. The box of cookies is still in his hand.

“Want to try one? They are delicious.” Draco asks you and holds up the box in front of you to take one. The same cookies that he had not let anyone else take. You look behind him and see how Blaise and the girls are jealous that you got one.

“Thank you, Draco.” you say and take one out of the box. “It tastes so delicious!” you excitedly say as you chew on your cookie. “I did say that.” Draco chuckles.

A few weeks later when you’re walking back to your dorm, you hear a girl, “C’mon Draco, come to Hogsmeade with me. It will be fun.”

Walking closer you see Draco is standing there with a girl. “No.” He says, not showing any interest at all in her.

Today was the weekend and all the students were preparing to leave for Hogsmeade. A lot of students had asked out people on dates for this weekend—which this girl in front of Draco was doing. But without any luck she walked away.

“Hey, y/n.” Draco happily says as he sees you. You greet him. Lately, you’ve been speaking more and more with him. But you’ve also noticed that more and more people are trying to get Draco’s attention.

“Do you have any plans for the afternoon?” He asks you. You didn’t have anything special, maybe grab a butter beer with your friends, but nothing major, so you shake your head in response.

“Great, want to go to Hogsmeade with me?”

“You want to go to Hogsmeade? Didn’t you just turn the other girl down?” You surprisingly say. You thought Draco didn’t want to go to Hogsmeade at all.

“Yes, and yes. I don’t want to go with her. I want to go with you. That’s why I have turned everyone down.”

“There were more people who asked you?!” You shouldn’t be so surprised, because during the whole semester people have been having major crushes on Draco—maybe including you.

Draco nods. “So, want to go?” with the question he takes out his hand, hoping you’ll take. You answer by taking his hand, because that’s a ‘yes’ from you.

When Draco and you get back from the fantastic day at Hogsmeade, Draco couldn’t stop smiling. Something his friend had noticed so many times by now. So, it’s time for Blaise to figure some things out.

“Okay, Draco,” Blaise grabs his friend to sit down on the couch in the slytherin common room. “Serious talk now.” Draco chuckles. When has his friend ever been so serious? “No I mean it, Draco.”

“Okay, Blaise, let me hear.”

“Y/n” Blaise says and puts his palms together. “What’s the deal with her?”

“What do you mean?” Draco asks, not sure what his friend is implying on.

“Everyone’s swooning over you, but here you are only giving her attention—” something clicked in Blaise. Why hadn’t he realised it from the beginning? “Oh, you like her. You want her to be yours.” Blaise starts to shine into a big smile. “My friend is in love.” He continues to cheer.

Draco gives a calm smile. His friend isn’t wrong at all. Draco had been crushing on you for a long time. It wasn’t until during the summer he decided he would take the steps to ask you out. However, he didn’t know that somehow people would start to ask him out this semester as well, only for him to reject, because he only wanted you.

“I want to be only hers.” Draco quietly says. He can't help but smile at the thought. “Then my friend, go and make her yours.”

Blaise words are stuck on Draco’s mind. He agrees with his friend. He wants to be yours, and the only way to do it, is to let you know.

Draco thinks about it the whole time on his way to the Great Hall. He just has to ask you. Then if you don’t reject him and feel the same, then he would be yours. He would be yours even if you would reject him, because he feels like his heart is already in your hands.

That’s when he sees you approaching a table. Quickly, without thinking, Draco runs up to you. Grabbing your hand. He’s going to do it. Right here, right now. It didn’t matter that there are people everywhere, he wants you to know.

“Y/n,” You are surprised to see him, but happy.

Without spending any more time to waste, Draco says without even hesitation,

“I need to tell you that I like you so much. My heart has belonged to you for a very long time, and I think I can’t wait any more time to let you know that I’m yours. Only yours.”

And at that moment everyone heard it. That Draco Malfoy is in love with you. That he only wants you. That he only could be yours.

“He’s only hers.” Blaise whispers for himself happily knowing very well your answers as he sees it in your face how you light up because of Draco.

y/n hasn’t felt quite like herself lately. a usually concentrated and dedicated student in every class was noticeably staring at a certain fred weasley, every class, all day long.

y/n didn’t know what it was, she didn’t know if it was his fluffy ginger hair that always, and she means always managed to keep messy. she didn’t if know it was the habit he had of making little lullabies by tapping his fingers on the table during class. maybe it was the way he play fought with her, their smiles brighter than the stars above.

y/n was undeniably head over heels in love with the prankster ginger haired boy she had done her very best to despise. but how could she? how could she when he smiled so sweetly? how could she when a day with him felt so much better than a lifetime with anyone else? how could she when he gave her his famous bear hugs?

fred didn’t feel any different. he’d never pictured himself falling for a slytherin girl, but y/n was special. she was his girl. she was one of the most unconditionally loving people he had ever met, and when he was with her, he felt like he could do anything.

there was only one thing keeping their relationship from being a dream.

y/n was a slytherin, and well, fred was worried his family wouldn’t accept her as well as they would if she was a gryffindor. y/n was aware of this, and it worried her too.

christmas time was coming around and fred would love nothing more than to have y/n spend christmas with him and his family. fred was aware y/n was going through a hard time with her home life, her parents being death eaters, and wanting her to join too.

y/n had told fred everything about how days were at her house, cold and unwelcoming, and y/n despised living in house where there was no love. ‘maybe if you weren’t such a good looking boy i wouldn’t have fallen for you and we wouldn’t have this problem.’ y/n joked.

‘darling, yes my parents would definitely prefer for you to be a gryffindor, but they will love you. because i love you. i love you because you are so kindhearted. i love you because you have revealed yourself to be totally opposed to your parents. your bravery and actions remove so much of the stigma that has been attached to slytherin house for hundreds of years. you make people see that the house is more than just a bunch of bullies and dark wizards.’

y/n felt her heart soar, feeling the pure adoration her boyfriend felt for her. ‘freddie, i love you too. so much.’ you hugged him, your arms wrapped around his waist snuggly. ‘now gorgeous, if you don’t mind, i’ll be writing a letter to my parents telling them you’ll be coming over for christmas.’

a few days latter, a letter from fred was delivered at the burrow, molly and arthur reading it together, always excited to get any updates from their children.

‘dear mom and dad,

everything here at hogwarts is going great. however, i can’t wait to come home for christmas and see you guys, i’ve missed you loads. i do have some news though. i have met a girl, and i’ve fallen in love. her name is y/n, and she is my girlfriend. she’s been going through some stuff lately, because she is in a complicated situation. y/n is in slytherin, and y/n’s parents are death eaters. yes i know what you’re thinking, and please mom, please dad, know that y/n is the most selflessly loving person i know and that her beliefs are completely opposite to her parents. she’s told me that staying at her house is difficult for her, since her parents have been trying to persuade her to join them, and they also treat her horribly. i would really appreciate it if you could welcome her in our house for this christmas break. please think about this, y/n really wants to impress you guys, and she needs a family.

molly and arthur were really touched as they read fred’s letter and immediately sent one back, confirming they’d have her for christmas. ‘my love, guess what.’ fred smiled, his head peeking through y/n’s dorm door. ‘what?’ y/n asked, walking towards fred to greet him with a kiss.

‘mom and dad said yes.’ he wiggled his eyebrows playfully. ‘oh my god! what? no way! i’m so happy!!’ she jumped into his arms, letting him spin her around.

the time for christmas holidays had come, and y/n couldn’t contain her excitement as she walked hand in hand with her boyfriend into the hogwarts express, settling cozied up in a compartment with ron, hermione and harry.

you’d gotten on very well with all of fred’s siblings, ginny especially. she felt like a little sister to you. you also had a good friendship with harry and hermione, so you were super happy you’d all be spending christmas break together.

‘we’re going to have the time of our lives’ fred whispered into you ear, and you nodded agreeing, as you drifted off to sleep in your boyfriend’s loving arms.

in no time you were all at the burrow, ron knocking on the door. arthur opened it and greeted you all. ‘hi kids! it’s so nice to see you again!’ he hugged you one by one. ‘y/n, it’s so nice to meet you.’ he smiled warmly.

‘it’s so nice to meet you too mr. weasley, and thank you for having me for the holidays, i appreciate it so much more than you know.’ arthur was hugging fred when he said, ‘please y/n no need for formalities, you’re dating our son, and you’re welcome here whenever you need.’

as you all walked into the kitchen, you looked around at the small but extremely cozy home, something you weren’t used to. you were met with molly finishing dinner, ‘oh hi kids! i’ve missed you all so so much. y/n it’s a pleasure to meet you darling, please feel at home.’ she hugged you tightly.

after arthur helped you get your stuff in ginny’s room, which you’d also be sharing with hermione, you all sat down for dinner. everyone chatted happily, and the food was amazing. how can you beat homemade food?

‘y/n darling i have something for you.’ molly smiled, getting up from her chair and handing you a present. ‘christmas is only in a few days, but i felt i needed to give you this gift, to officially welcome you to the family.’

as you carefully opened the package, you were met with a knitted sweater with your initial on it, similar to the one everyone in the family had. you thanked everyone, as you shed a tear.

it felt good to finally be in a home that was filled with love.

y/n hasn’t felt quite like herself lately. a usually concentrated and dedicated student in every class was noticeably staring at a certain fred weasley, every class, all day long.

y/n didn’t know what it was, she didn’t know if it was his fluffy ginger hair that always, and she means always managed to keep messy. she didn’t know if it was the habit he had of making little lullabies by tapping his fingers on the table during class. maybe it was the way he play fought with her, their smiles brighter than the stars above.

y/n was undeniably head over heels in love with the prankster ginger haired boy she had done her very best to despise. but how could she? how could she when he smiled so sweetly? how could she when a day with him felt so much better than a lifetime with anyone else? how could she when he gave her his famous bear hugs?

fred didn’t feel any different. he’d never pictured himself falling for a slytherin girl, but y/n was special. she was his girl. she was one of the most unconditionally loving people he had ever met, and when he was with her, he felt like he could do anything.

there was only one thing keeping their relationship from being a dream.

y/n was a slytherin, and well, fred was worried his family wouldn’t accept her as well as they would if she was a gryffindor. y/n was aware of this, and it worried her too.

christmas time was coming around and fred would love nothing more than to have y/n spend christmas with him and his family. fred was aware y/n was going through a hard time with her home life, her parents being death eaters, and wanting her to join too.

y/n had told fred everything about how days were at her house, cold and unwelcoming, and y/n despised living in house where there was no love. ‘maybe if you weren’t such a good looking boy i wouldn’t have fallen for you and we wouldn’t have this problem.’ y/n joked.

‘darling, yes my parents would definitely prefer for you to be a gryffindor, but they will love you. because i love you. i love you because you are so kindhearted. i love you because you have revealed yourself to be totally opposed to your parents. your bravery and actions remove so much of the stigma that has been attached to slytherin house for hundreds of years. you make people see that the house is more than just a bunch of bullies and dark wizards.’

y/n felt her heart soar, feeling the pure adoration her boyfriend felt for her. ‘freddie, i love you too. so much.’ you hugged him, your arms wrapped around his waist snuggly. ‘now gorgeous, if you don’t mind, i’ll be writing a letter to my parents telling them you’ll be coming over for christmas.’

a few days latter, a letter from fred was delivered at the burrow, molly and arthur reading it together, always excited to get any updates from their children.

‘dear mom and dad,

everything here at hogwarts is going great. however, i can’t wait to come home for christmas and see you guys, i’ve missed you loads. i do have some news though. i have met a girl, and i’ve fallen in love. her name is y/n, and she is my girlfriend. she’s been going through some stuff lately, because she is in a complicated situation. y/n is in slytherin, and y/n’s parents are death eaters. yes i know what you’re thinking, and please mom, please dad, know that y/n is the most selflessly loving person i know and that her beliefs are completely opposite to her parents. she’s told me that staying at her house is difficult for her, since her parents have been trying to persuade her to join them, and they also treat her horribly. i would really appreciate it if you could welcome her in our house for this christmas break. please think about this, y/n really wants to impress you guys, and she needs a family.
