HTTYD

Rating: E

Pairings: Astrid/Ryker, Astrid/Hiccup

Rape/Non-Con, Whump, Astrid!Whump, emotional Hiccup!Whump

Summary: Ryker has captured Astrid. She has no illusions as to what he’s planned, but she won’t give in that easily. But… does she even have a chance?

—————-

This story is a late birthday gift for a good friend. You know who you are. 😘 💜 It’s not the story you deserved but it’s all I have these days.

—————-

Astrid flinched when she heard noises coming from the door. After the Dragon Hunters had captured her, they’d taken away her weapons and armor, and without them, she felt weirdly naked.

When the door opened a moment later, she huddled as far away from it as she could - which actually wasn’t that far. The heavy chain around her ankle rattled and made it impossible for her to hide or get away from the too-soft and too-big bed, one of very few pieces of furniture in this room.

Cell . No matter how clean and even comfortable this room was, it was still a cell.

When Ryker’s eyes found her, he grinned darkly. “Are you enjoying your stay with us?” he asked, voice leering. He held one arm behind his back, hiding something from her view, but for now, Astrid didn’t pay it any mind.

“Set me free,” she hissed, intent on not giving in and being the scared captive he was probably expecting.”Or you’ll regret that we ever met. As soon as my friends and our dragons find this ship, you’ll–”

She broke off when Ryker’s booming laughter interrupted her.

“Oh, I like your spirit, girl. Keep it up, I’ll have more fun that way.”

Astrid narrowed her eyes at him but didn’t say anything else and only gritted her teeth. She’d probably learn more if she just let him talk.

But Ryker didn’t say any more, at least not at that moment. Instead, he tossed something toward her, something heavy that landed on the soft bedding without an additional bounce.

Reflexively, she picked the object up, her fingers shaking, and she felt the color drain from her face as she recognized it. This… it couldn’t be! …could it?

“Where did you get that?” she asked, hating how weak her voice sounded. This couldn’t be true! It was one of Hiccup’s prosthetics, there was no doubt. But this one was bent and even broken in one place, with stains that looked like blood all over it. How had Ryker gotten his hands on this? What… what had happened to Hiccup?

Ryker gave her a menacing grin. “What do you think? Your hero came to rescue you, just like you told me he would. My men just had to wait in a few hidden spots. Shooting his Night Fury out of the sky was almost too easy with how they hovered there, looking for you.” He laughed darkly. ”We’ll get good money for that beast. I’m just not sure yet what will get us more, selling it alive or in parts.”

“You wouldn’t dare to–”

“Oh, don’t act all innocent. You know exactly what I do to dragons,” he interrupted her in an almost bored tone. “If I were to get my hands on your Nadder again, I’d even make you watch, just because.”

Astrid paled, but kept her mouth shut. Luckily, Stormfly had been able to get away when Ryker had surprised them at their resting spot. She was out of this madman’s reach. But that couldn’t be said about everyone… She was here, chained and helpless in this weird cell. Toothless seemed to be his captive now, too, and… She swallowed and her hand grew tight around Hiccup’s prosthetic.

“And what happened to Hiccup?” she asked in a trembling voice, scared of the answer already.

Chuckling darkly, Ryker came closer. “Let’s just say… If I were you I wouldn’t waste my hopes on that weakling anymore,” he said menacingly. “And his fate should be the least of your concerns now.”

He reached for her arm and grabbed her so tightly that his hand surely would leave a bruise. But even if she’d had the room to back away further, she wouldn’t have been able to move anyway.

Hiccup… Hiccup was…? No! No, he couldn’t be dead! She’d know if he was, would feel it! …wouldn’t she? She clutched tighter at the prosthetic as if it was a lifeline as her thoughts spiraled down into darkness. What had happened to him?

6) “You were always too soft, never could stand up for yourself.”
7) “Where’s your hero now when you need them the most? I don’t see them.”

9) “Look at you now, you’re pathetic. You’re weak.”
10) “I don’t want to rush this, I’ve been waiting a long time for this moment so I want to be able to take my time with you.”
11) “But they told me they loved me.” “Aww, sweetheart, they were lying, I’m the only one who could ever love you.”
12) “I never wanted to hurt people! I didn’t want this life! You made me a monster.”
13) “I didn’t make you a monster, you were just born that way.”
14) “Hope you’re not too attached to that hand.”
15) “You killed them, you bury them.”
16) “You made me hurt them.” “I didn’t make you do anything you didn’t want to do.”
17) “Do as you’re told or you’re going to make me angry.”
18) “Don’t ever say that name in front of me again, do you understand?”
19) “I only do these things because I love you, you know that right? I don’t want to hurt you, but you just make me so angry sometimes.”
20) “Don’t take me back there! Please, I can’t go back there. They’re there.”
21) “If I tell you what they made me do you wont be able to look at me the same.”
22) “Let them go. I did everything you asked me to do, now just let them go!”
23) “You’re a talker, I never liked talkers. Let’s see how much talking you can do with your tongue cut out.”
24) “You never listen, but that’s okay because after I finish carving up your little friend over here I think you’re going to be able to hear me just fine.
25) “I’ve never smashed anyone’s hand with a hammer before so this is going to be a first for both of us.”
26) “What happened to you? What did they say to you?” “Please don’t make me tell you.”
27) “I can’t sleep, every time I close my eyes I see them.”
28) “They were right, I’m weak and I couldn’t save them.”
29) “Let them go and you can have me. Let them go and I’ll never try to leave again. I promise.”
30) “No, they were my friend. I should be the one to kill them.”
31) “No, go on, say it. Say that you wish I’d died instead of them, I know you want to!”
32) “Why do you stay with them? You don’t deserve to be treated like this, no one does.”
33) “The only thing you’ve ever been good at is being a coward!”
34) “You don’t belong here, you never did.”
35) “You’re a waste of air.”
36) “You’re useless.”
37) “They hurt you, why do you go back?” “They’re the only family I’ve got.”
38) “You don’t have friends, we’re the only ones who are able to tolerate you.
39) “I’ve felt pain all my life, but now? I don’t feel anything.” “Good, then you’re ready.”
40) “I wish they would have let you die that day.”
41) “You always were too emotional.”
42) “What do hugs feel like?”
43) “Why does everything hurt?”
44) “Why doesn’t anyone want me?
45) “Families are supposed to love you, not leave you.” “Then I guess I’ve never had a family.”
46) “Do you think I’ll ever have a family one day?”
47) “How long do you think they can hold their breath underwater before they need to breathe?”
48) “Hey! Hey, wake up! How many of these did you take, huh? No, no, don’t go back to sleep, you need to stay awake for me.”
49) “Are you afraid of me too?”
50) “Why didn’t you tell us you’d been hit? You almost died.”
51) “Prove your loyalty. Kill them.” “They’re just a kid.”
52) “Am I going to die here?” “No, okay? Just stay with me.”
53) “Your efforts to be the good guy have been so cute but it’s time to face reality. You were born to be bad, you’ll never be the hero.
54) “I’m fine.” “No you’re not, you’re losing a lot of blood.”
55) “Save the others first. Save them first or all my fighting was for nothing.”
56) “You see these scars? You did this to me.”
57) “Do you think they knew I loved them before they died?”
58) “Could you ever forgive me?”
59) “I can’t give up. They need me so I can never give up.”
60) “You couldn’t save your first love, what makes you think you can save your second?”
61) “It’s okay if you’re scared of dying, your friends were too.”
62) “Whatever you want, anything you want, I’ll give it to you. Just make it stop.”
63) “They say I’m a monster and I never believed them but now I think they’re right.”
64) “I failed my mission, I couldn’t save them. Their deaths are on me.”
65) “I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I can barely fucking breathe because they’re gone and it’s my fault. And god knows what they’re doing to them right now and I’m just sitting here doing nothing!”
66) “Calm down, calm down, you were just dreaming.”
67) “Take me instead, please?” “What would I want with someone as pathetic as you?”
68) “If you have to kill one of us kill me.”
69) “I ruined your brilliant plan, I destroyed everything you built, I killed your friends, and now you’ve got one bullet left and two people in front of you. So, shoot me because if you shoot them and let me live I’m going tear you apart piece by piece. So, what’s it going to be?”
70) “I know you’ve been out for a long time need you to do a job for me.” “I’m not killing again.” “Not even if the person I’m asking you to kill is responsible for all of your pain?”
71) “It’d be a shame if someone you loved got hurt, I know how much your friends mean to you.”
72) “I hate myself when I’m with you.”
73) “I wish you didn’t have to be medicated to call me.”
74) “This is all your fault. I wish you’d died in that car crash instead of them.”
75) “I need to get up. They’re dying so I need to get up right now.”
76) “Just make it all stop, please, it hurts. Everything hurts.”
77) “We can’t be together. You know that. You and I bring out the worst in each other.”
78) “Be a shame if you kept talking and I had to take out a few of those teeth to shut you up. Especially since you’ve got such a lovely smile.”
79)  "Look at that, your hero came for you after all. They really do love you, huh? It’s a shame you wont get the reunion you wanted.“
80) "I know living with me hasn’t been easy but I really am trying here.”
81) “You put on such a brave face but the truth is you’re terrified of what’s out there.”
82) “You think you’re ready to do everything but you’re not. You’re not ready to kill someone, no matter how much you hate them.”
83) “Everybody keeps telling me what to do, what to say, what to think, what to feel and I can’t do this anymore, I can’t. I feel like I’m not even a person anymore and I just need it to stop. I just want everything to stop!
84) "I’m just trying to keep you from dying! Don’t you see that? I care about you and you are the last person I ever want to see dead out there, so just fucking listen to me for once!”
85) “I just want to keep you safe, there are a lot of bad people out there who want to hurt people like us. We have to be careful.”
86) “Goddamn it, kid, don’t you ever listen? Stay still, let me stop the bleeding, okay?”
87) “You are not one of us, okay? You’re just some rando who got dragged into all this shit. So take this money, get a bus ticket, and go home, kid.”
88) “What have I become?”
89) “Why hasn’t anyone looked for me yet?” “Because they don’t care about you like I do.”
90) “I’m not a kid anymore so stop treating me like I am!”
91) “They left you all alone. Stay here with me and I’ll never leave you. I can be your family and we can watch them all burn together.”
92) “Why did you jump in front of me back there?” “Why didn’t you move?”
93) “I never thought I’d see you again, they told me you were dead.”
94) “Get under the bed and don’t make a sound okay?” “But they’ll get you.” “Just get under the bed and no matter what you hear or what you see just stay completely quiet and completely still. Do that for me, alright?”
95) “Shh, it’s just me, don’t panic.” “Don’t sneak up on me like that.”
96) “I feel so useless.”
97) “You call out for them when you sleep. Do you want to talk about it?”
98) “My eyelids feel like they weigh a million pounds.” “It’s because you’re tired, you should get some sleep. We have to save the world tomorrow.”
99) “Hey! Hey, calm down. Calm down, it’s just me.”
100) “When I finish patching you up I swear to god I’m gonna kick your ass for making me worry about you.”

ao3commentoftheday:

Hi! Just stumbled across this blog thanks to one of my readers pointing me to you via a meme.

Just wanted to ask, do you know the general consensus on fanfics of fanfics?

When I’m reading a WIP and I’m all caught up, my brain goes in wild directions and wants to try to figure out what comes next. I get the same itchy feeling I normally do when I want to write a fic for a fandom, but I never end up writing it because I’m worried about annoying the Author (even if I never post).

As an Author I would personally probably feel both flattered and flustered, but maybe even offended if they post without talking to me first if it goes in a direction I don’t like.

Is it like fanart? Is it normally welcomed, or do people feel awkward?

I know you’re only one (?) opinion, so you can’t speak for EVERYONE, but I am curious about your input.

[Also, it looks like you reblog things that others commented on, even if you don’t add anything new. If you do, I’d like to apologise for the number of things I’ve added to in the past hour or so if it adds more work for you… I just found this blog and I’m kinda binging…]

-

In fandom, consensus is so rare that I generally say it never happens. This is another such case. Many authors would be flattered and flustered, just like you, if someone asked to write fic of their fic. There are some, however, who would not appreciate it. Like you said, if the fanfic of their fic goes in a direction they don’t like they might be angry or offended.

For myself, I absolutely love it if I’m able to inspire someone. You liked my fic enough to write a fic in that universe? Awesome! You like my photo manip enough to write a story to go with it? Fantastic! You want to record my story as a podfic? You’re my new best friend. That’s why I’ve got a permission statement in my AO3 profile that says I’m 100% cool with people taking my work and transforming it, just like I’ve transformed the canon I’m writing fics for.

You should definitely ask permission first, however. I know that we don’t ask show runners if we can write fic, but they aren’t part of the fandom community in the same way that fellow authors are. Another thing you should do is point people back to the source of your inspiration. On AO3, there’s actually an option when you’re filling out the New Work form. There’s a tick box where you can indicate that your work was inspired by  someone else’s and you can link directly to it.

As for the reblogs, that’s how I run this blog. Tumblr doesn’t make it easy to see conversations happening in the notes, so by reblogging additions to my posts I let people see opinions other than mine. Sometimes those opinions agree with me and sometimes they don’t and sometimes they just raise points that I didn’t think of or that counter something that I or someone else said.

Never feel like you need to apologize for adding onto my posts or for reblogging a bunch in one go. The reblogs are where the discussion and community happen, and it’s where I’ve learned a LOT in the past few years of running this blog. ❤

I very much agree, asking permission is an important point. Maybe the most important point.

I once had someone who wrote a fanfic based on one of my fics. They didn’t ask my permission first and in their starting AN they said something along the line of “I read this fic but since they don’t update often enough and don’t go where I want the story to go I decided to write my own version of how I think the story should end.”

I only learned about this fic because apparently the only comments this other person got were questions whether they’d talked to me beforehand and to appease them, they contacted me. They did so in a very condesending manner, as if I should be grateful for their insult and honourd by them spending their time on remedying what I did wrong.

If they had talked to me before and in a friendlier way, I might have given them my permission to write what they want. But with the way our interactions went, all I could do was tell them that I can’t stop them from writing what they want but that I don’t approve of and certainyl won’t recommend their fics in my own AN.

A little friendliess and respect can go a long way, we’re all just fans here.

Fic starter sentence: With a satisfied smirk, she pressed her finger into the wound. "Does it hurt?"

Hiccup gasped and struggled as Maeve pressed her finger into his bleeding side. He shouldn’t have trusted her, shouldn’t have let her on Berk. Now, houses were burning and there was destruction everywhere, and here he was tied up with her, desperately wishing for rescue.

“What do you want?” Hiccup asked breathlessly, trying his best to glare at her through the pain.

“What I’ve always wanted,” she answered, bloodlust flashing in her eyes. “Everything.”

I decided to not go with the order of the Whumptober prompts anymore and instead fill in the gabs before continuing with the story in order. This means I’m probably not going to show up on the Whumptober blog anymore. Anyone interested can instead subscribe to my Whumptober-series on AO3 instead. :) I’m still doing the prompts as best I can though and add them to their collection, too.

Warnings: Graphic depiction of violence

Summary: Ryker tortures Astrid to draw Hiccup out of his hiding spot.

AN: Whelp! Okay, this is probably the most gruesome thing I’ve written so far.
And… okay, I feel bad for saying this… but I enjoyed it?

The series on AO3

“Now, let me take a look at this leg.”

Ryker kneeled down next to where Astrid was again bound and dangling off his ship’s mast. His meaty hands ran over her leggings and if her leg wouldn’t hurt like mad already, she’d tell him in no uncertain words to take his hands off her. But as it was, his touch barely registered in her mind.

Since yesterday when Ryker had shoved her to the ground, her knee had swollen to at least twice its usual size. It was throbbing and felt hot even without her being able to touch it.

“Mmh, that looks painful. How does this feel?” There was glee and sick excitement in Ryker’s voice when he squeezed abs prodded at the tender flesh. It made her want to groan in pain but she bit her lip, hard, to keep any noises inside. She didn’t want to give him that satisfaction.

To distract herself, Astrid gazed at the sky above them. In opposition to the insufferably hot day before, the sky was covered in heavy clouds today, the cool wind almost soothing on her skin. Hiccup had escaped. That was all that mattered now and she repeated that thought in her mind over and over. He’d escaped, hadn’t fallen for Ryker’s trap. He was safe.

Sharp pain at her leg made her hiss. It was a new pain, a blade cutting into her skin, and when she looked down, she saw that Ryker had made short work of her leggings. Blood trickled down her leg where he’d cut the fabric and underlying flesh without much patience.

What scared her more though was how her knee looked. Black and blue from what had to be one hell of a bruise and swollen, it didn’t look good. It needed treatment and rest, for her to lie down.

But Ryker wouldn’t let any of that happen. With dark laughter, he again squeezed at the throbbing flesh, making her whimper in pain.

“Did you find a new toy, brother?"

Ryker looked up at the new voice. Astrid couldn’t see who was standing behind her, but Viggo’s voice was distinct. It sent a new shiver of fear down her spine.

"Viggo! When did you arrive?"

He stood up, patting Astrid’s shoulder which made her swing and put further strain on her shoulders and wrists, making a fresh drop of blood run down her arms.

"Oh, some hours ago,” Viggo replied. “But it was the middle of the night so I went to get some sleep first."

He walked around Astrid, regarding her with a dismissive look. "I hear you failed to capture the others, though."

Ryker scowled. "But they failed to take her with them, too. Besides, it was only their leader anyway.”

“But he and his dragon are the most important. The rest would have landed in our cells in no time.” There was anger in Viggo’s voice.

“They still will,” Ryker insisted. “My men managed to wound him and he’s still alone. We just have to lure him back here before any reinforcement arrives.”

“He’s still around?” Viggo covertly glanced at the surrounding sea stacks.

Ryker nodded. “Oh, he is. We’ve seen him watching us every now and then from up there. He wouldn’t leave when we still have her.”

Viggo’s lips twitched into a smirk. “Very well. Then do what you have to to get him back here.”

A dark grin spread over Ryker’s face. “Oh, I’m going to enjoy this!”

Astrid listened to the men’s exchange with trepidation. Hiccup was still around? They would keep using her as bait to lure him in? She wanted to scream at that idea. She and Hiccup were supposed to make each other stronger and support each other. Not be each other’s weakness.

But screaming was just what she couldn’t do, not under any circumstances. If Hiccup was still around then waiting for their friends to support him was the only sensible thing to do, especially with that arrow wound. But for that, he had to wait, to not come rushing in unprepared. Whatever Ryker would do to her, she couldn’t scream, couldn’t let on that she was in pain.

And at first, she thought that would be manageable.

She was in a state of constant pain, after all, from her wrists and shoulders, her throat and her head, and now from the cut on her leg and her injured knee as well. Whatever else Ryker planned on doing to her, she could take it.

For a while, he kept prodding at her knee, chuckling at every single one of her suppressed whimpers. He kept pushing at the swollen joint, and with horror, Astrid realized that something was moving inside. Whatever had happened to her knee, once she was free the recovery would take weeks. But first, she had to get away, and for that, she had to buy time.

And to her surprise, it seemed as if Ryker was willingly giving her that time. After maybe half an hour of him tormenting her leg, he suddenly left without a word.

The prospect of spending yet another day like this, helpless and suffering as the hours dragged by, wasn’t exactly appealing. But still, if that was all they got then waiting for her friends to get her out of this situation would be easy.

She should have known better though. It only took a few minutes until Ryker returned, a look of smooth satisfaction on his face.

“I want you to know that I’m going to enjoy this very much,” he announced as he placed some sort of leather bag on the ground. Its content clang, metal on metal.

“You’re sick,” Astrid pressed through gritted teeth.

He put on something like a thinking face, his head tipping from one side to the other. “Yeah, probably. But there’s really nothing that beats breaking a brat like you. You think you’re a fighter, right? Battle-hardened and able to endure pain? Let’s see how much you can really take.”

Without a warning, he brought his fist to her stomach.

Pain exploded in Astrid’s body and the only reason she didn’t scream was that his punch had forced all air from her lungs. Her eyes were wide, the burning in her wrists, shoulders, knee forgotten. Tears formed and ran down her cheeks as she heaved, trying to breathe through the pain.

“I know what you’re trying.”

Ryker still stood close, his fist still at her stomach and his mouth at her ear. He spoke calmly, almost tender even, but his words didn’t match up.

“He’s still around somewhere, watching us. And you want to keep him safe by playing strong. It’s admirable but pathetic. No matter how strong you think you are, I’ll prove you wrong. But please… don’t make it too easy for me.”

In the next moment, he rammed his knee against her thigh. The bone didn’t break - or at least she didn’t think it did - but the pain was still blinding and drew another suppressed groan from her.

What followed was an eternity of pain. Ryker dealt one blow after the other, covering all of Astrid’s body with his hits with his fist or kicks, and gave her close to no time at all to recover in-between. The moment her mind registered where he’d hit her, the next blow was already coming.

And yet through it all, she managed to stay silent. She whimpered, gasped, groaned, and keened. But she didn’t scream. Her teeth dug so hard into her lower lip that they were drawing blood. It ran down her chin and neck. But it didn’t matter. All that mattered was that she didn’t let on how much he was hurting her. She could make it through this!

Please, Hiccup, she thought desperately. Please, stay where you are. Don’t interfere. Wait for the others. Don’t let them capture you, too.

She was drowning in a sea of pain, her body bruised and bleeding when the blows eventually stopped. When she looked up through heavy eyes, Ryker was still there, breathing hard and grinning.

“I have to admit, you can take more than I expected. But that will just make my victory all the sweeter.“

"You won’t win.” Her voice was weak, her mind dazed, but she wouldn’t give up.

Ryker flexed his hand. “Maybe not like this. But I’m far from done here."

He crouched down by the bag he’d placed next to her earlier and pulled the strings open. Astrid glanced down to see what kind of torture devices were inside but just huffed in confusion. There were metal spikes, the length of that of a Nadder but far thinner. Some were as thick as Ryker’s finger, others merely long needles. What they all had in common though were the sharp tips and a glossy sheen that covered them all.

Somehow, she didn’t like that sight.

"I admire your determination, girl,” he said casually. “You’d suffer through anything to protect him, wouldn’t you?”

“Damn right,” Astrid hissed. She tasted blood on her tongue and spit it out, right at Ryker’s feet.

He chuckled darkly. “Would you also sacrifice your future for him?”

“I’d die to protect him!” The words came with conviction. This wasn’t the first time she faced this question, after all.

But Ryker just kept chuckling. “But that’s not what I meant. I was talking about your future, girl. You’re a warrior, I can see that much. But what if I take that away from you?"

He took one of the spikes out of the bag, one of the thinnest ones, holding it delicately with the tips of his fingers.

"What if I make sure you will never fight again? What if you become a burden instead? Is he worth that, too?”

Astrid gritted her teeth but didn’t reply. Words, that was all Ryker had. She would never stop fighting, never!

“I see.” Ryker smirked - then drove the needle into her right calf.

The pain hit her with the fraction of a second’s delay. Then her eyes snapped open before rolling back into her head, her mouth open wide in a silent scream.

Fuck!

“The acid of a Changewing,” Ryker commented almost casually. “Diluted, of course. Uncomfortable to touch, but if it gets in contact with an open wound…” He shuddered. “The burning pain can drive a man insane and the risk for infections…”

He took a second spike from the bag, a little wider this time. This time, he aimed so that the metal would go from her knee through her entire calf down to the foot, distributing the pain as widely as possible.

The girl shook violently with the pain. “Get them out!” she sobbed.

Ryker hummed in satisfaction. But she still wasn’t screaming, still fought for her weakling of a leader. Well, he wasn’t done yet.

He crouched down and reached for another spike. This time, he took one of the thickest, aiming to cause as much damage as possible.

“It was actually you who gave me this idea. With your knee injured you can’t even walk, much less fight. So, if I destroy it permanently…” He looked up into her fearful eyes, grinning menacingly. Finally, she understood. “Last chance, girl. Scream! Scream for him to come and save you. We both know that he’s watching, that he’ll be here in a matter of seconds if you call for him. Do it or I’ll destroy your knee. Your choice.”

Astrid shook with pain and fear. She understood her situation all too well. If he rammed that spike into her knee… then she would never walk again.

She lifted her head to look up into the sky. Somewhere up there, Hiccup was watching them. Please, stay where you are, she thought, hoping to somehow reach him. Ryker had a sick pleasure in torturing people, her specifically as it seemed. This would happen, no matter whether they captured Hiccup as well. Viggo would probably even make him watch.

Ryker shook his head with slight amusement. “As you wish.”

He grabbed her leg to hold it steady, took a second to aim, and drove the spike right through her already injured knee.

Her scream was beautiful. Loud and shrill and true, it echoed of the sea stacks to mix with her following screams when he pierced her knee with a second and a third spike. Her pain was real, beautiful, tangible in how her voice broke. Ryker basked in her pain, in having proven his dominance over her - and grinned even wider when her scream was echoed by another one, coming from somewhere far above them.

Up on his sea stack, Hiccup was banging his head against the rocky ground, covering his ears with his hands.

She’d asked, no, begged him to flee. She’d stayed to ensure he got away. She’d bought him time, time to treat his wound, and time for their friends to arrive. And he’d promised to himself that he wouldn’t dishonor her decision.

But by the Gods, it was impossible. Watching her getting beaten by Ryker had been bad. Really bad! From the distance, he hadn’t been able to see what exactly he’d done to her but it hadn’t been pretty. Only the knowledge that it was another trap and the Hunters only waiting for him and Toothless had kept him from flying down, that it would be a pointless endeavor anyway. And the fact that he was hardly able to move, of course.

With Toothless’ help, he’d broken off the arrow’s shaft in his shoulder, but the tip was still in there. He couldn’t say what kind of poison had been on it, most likely Speed Stinger or Flightmare, only that it took time to wear off. He still couldn’t clench his left hand.

All he could do was wait for his Terror mail to reach their friends, for them to come here to help. And until then…

Astrid’s screaming grew even more desperate, more like the howl of a wounded dragon than a human, and Hiccup couldn’t help but scream as well. Letting her know that she wasn’t alone… it was all he could do for her.

Do you have any ideas who you'd cast as actors for some life action thing as Hiccup, Viggo, Dagur, and Astrid?

Oh fuck, I have no clue! I’ve never really thought about this too much, but it’s a fun idea to play with. I admit that I haven’t really seen many actors that would make good versions of these characters. If anyone has any suggestions, please, feel free!

I wrote a much longer entry for today’s Whumptober. Over 2k of blood and pain and Astrid very much being in a bad situation, plus emotional Hiccup!whump, I guess.

But now I wonder. Should I upload it today? Or should I wait and write the Whumptober-story in order, instead? That would make more sense, wouldn’t it?

Summary: Hiccup comes to Astrid’s rescue…

Entire series on AO3

It started in the middle of the night.

Astrid was caught somewhere between exhausted sleep and unconsciousness when a dark figure appeared next to her. Muddled as her mind was after a day in the burning sun, she didn’t even grasp what happened at first, and it took the distinct scent of leather and just that special something that was him for her to realize who it was.

“Hi…. Hiccup?”

Her voice was weak, hoarse with her too-dry throat.

“Yes, it’s me. Are you okay? Did they hurt you?” He ran his hands over her face and head, checking her over for injuries.

Keening, she leaned into his touch, so unbelievably grateful for his presence

“Just give me a moment, then I’ll get you out of here."

He reached up to her arms, feeling for the chain and how it was fixated. His movements were fast and sure, as always, but it still took him a moment, time for Astrid’s mind to clear a little.

"No!” she gasped, fearful now. “No, Hiccup, you have to leave. Now! It’s a trap!”

But Hiccup just scoffed. “Oh, I know. Them keeping you here out in the open, it’s obvious that they were expecting us. But they were expecting an open attack, not me and Toothless sneaking on board in the middle of the night.” He paused in whatever he was doing above her head for a moment, his fingers brushing over her cheek. “Don’t you worry. I’m not leaving without you."

He continued working on the mechanism until there was a low click and her arms were suddenly free. She would have fallen hard to the wooden ground if Hiccup hadn’t caught her just in time.

“Hey, hey. I’ve got you. Come, we have to hurry. Can you walk?”

Astrid nodded, still a little numb and dazed, but Hiccup still pulled her arm over his shoulder to support her, for which she was grateful. Her legs felt so shaky, she didn’t trust them.

They made it exactly as far as one step.

That first step only made Astrid stumble but thanks to Hiccup’s help that was only a minor problem. The second step put her weight on her right leg then, but instead of holding her up, it gave way beneath her as if it wasn’t even there. A sharp pain shot through her entire body as her knee twisted and without being able to do anything against it, a shrill scream of pain tore itself from her chest. She fell to the ground, not even Hiccup able to hold her up this time, and the impact was so jarring that she couldn’t suppress a second outcry. What had happened to her leg?

“Astrid? Oh, Gods, what happened?” Hiccup was at her side in an instant.

She whimpered. “M-my leg… I-it hurts! I can’t-”

She wanted to say more, but at that moment, sudden light flared up from all around them. Seemingly out of nowhere, countless Hunters appeared from behind stacks of barrels and boxes, brightly lit lanterns in their hands and dark grins on their faces.

With fear in her heart, Astrid looked around. It had been a trap, it had been a trap, it had been a trap! Hiccup’s hand on her arm tightened as he changed into a protective stance, his hand itching to where he kept his flaming sword. But before he could draw it and start the fight, Ryker’s abhorrent voice echoed from behind them, something like amusement ringing in it like a bad aftertaste.

“And where do you two think you’re going?”

Summary: Astrid has to escape before her friends get captured trying to free her. But is that even possible?

Entire series on AO3

After Ryker was done taunting her, Astrid was left alone, hanging from the chains on the deck of Ryker’s ship. At first, she’d been excited. Without them watching her, it should be easy to escape - or so she’d thought. But she soon realized that escaping wouldn’t be an easy task, not bound and in her current condition.

With her strong arms, she was easily able to pull herself up to where the chain between her hands was attached to the hook. But she wasn’t able to hold on to anything, her weight entirely on her shackled wrists. So far, the bindings on her arms kept her from injury, but it was only a matter of time until the sharp metal would cut through fabric to reach skin and flesh. She couldn’t risk moving too much.

Besides, pulling herself up like that was pointless anyway. Lifting herself up to take a look at the hook showed her that it wouldn’t be easy to detach the chain from it. If she could jump then it might be possible, but she was barely reaching the deck with her toes. Jumping wasn’t an option.

She also tried twisting herself upwards, to wrap her legs around the hook’s chain and free herself that way. But even trying to move her right knee had left her screaming in unexpected pain. Whatever had happened to her knee when Ryker had pushed her to the ground, it wasn’t good.

And that left her with another problem, she realized. Even if she could free herself, what was she supposed to do? She couldn’t run, couldn’t even stand. Fighting would be near impossible, even if she managed to get her hands on a weapon. And what then? It had taken Ryker hours to get them here and rowing wasn’t exactly her strongest skill. Her chances of fleeing before they recaptured her were slim at best.

But she had to escape! If all this really was a trap to capture Hiccup, her friends, and their dragons then she couldn’t allow Ryker and Viggo to use her as bait. She couldn’t risk them getting caught as well, couldn’t risk any of them getting hurt.

Alone as she was, Astrid allowed a hopeless sob to escape from deep within her chest. There was little she hated as much as feeling helpless, but that was exactly what she was now. Helpless and useless.

Her wrists hurt and her hands had grown numb long ago. Her shoulders burned and her knee felt horrible, swollen and throbbing with a dull pain. Her throat was dry, she hadn’t drunk anything since before her workout in the woods yesterday. Her mind became dazed the longer they left her hanging there and she hated all of it.

Entirely useless indeed.

She couldn’t get out of this but she also couldn’t wait for Hiccup and the others to fly head-first into this trap. All she could do was wait and hope that Ryker would free her soon and bring her somewhere else, that she would get the chance to flee then. But even with their dragons incapacitated by the powdered dragon root, they eventually would catch up to them.

She was running out of time!

And yet, she couldn’t help the hours ticking by…

These whumptober entries get  much more attention and notes than my other stories. That surprises me to be honest, but I don’t mind :)
