The dragon thief, in her mask and armor. and her fearsome wraith companion being so b a b y (when no one’s around that is).

Since the beginning of Dawn’s development I knew I wanted to give her a mask and get-up similar to Valka’s armor, who’s in a way mirrors the Bewilderbeast. With Dawn being Valka’s apprentice, it only makes sense. I’m still working out the kinks of the design, but I’m very happy with the mask which is more of a combination between a terrible terror and sand wraith. A testament to the frenetically fierce heart underneath the sturdy exterior she posses, and her skill in speed and stealth. She’s a bit on the short end height wise, but man does her sharp edges pack a punch.

Hi there! Got a question: I recently started a fanfiction (httyd, hiccstrid), which was inspired by the song "Dusk Till Dawn" from Zayn. It only felt natural to name my story "Dusk Till Dawn" as well. And then, last week, I saw your OC's on my insta stories and thought: Oh bugger, now it sounds like I'm using your OC's for my fanfiction title. I didn't publish my story yet, but just wanted to ask if it's okay if I call my story like that? (Love your art btw and I love following your insta!)

H-howdy..?

Im still alive! Though this be my first time scrolling on a tumblr in a while.. I recently started school again so it’s been very busy, and this year is unlike the past two. I’m officially an animation student and am living on campus this year, so I’ve been trying to adjust to this new schedule and life.

If you’re at all confused what that means well, for the past year and a half I’ve been at community college working on general Ed classes. Last spring I transferred to university but couldn’t quite get into their animation program just yet because they open in the fall (so I studied Screenwriting in the meantime). Once they did, I was accepted and now am officially studying Animation & Visual effects in university (while minoring in Screenwriting ;). I worked very hard to get here, I’ve just been wanting to study in animation for such a long time and it’s such a blessing that finally, finally I’ve made it.

Again, lots of stuff has been going on.. classes, LightBox Expo, website updating, etc. and recently my iPad pencil seems to have given in on me :( BUT- I’ve recently discovered the existence of my school’s print shop, and with the help of my professor, have come to learn they can print books there too. 👀 So I’m really looking into making the 365 day dragons countdown book a reality, but we’ll see...

That’s the update on me you probably didn’t ask for.. as for the update on this blog well, I hope to still post dragon-related art on here in the future. I know there’s a short coming about and my oc story I’m striving to start, all of which will be posted here when time allows. ;u;

‪I gave in and made a Nightlight oc! Her name is Blacktide. She’s a feral goofball who hatched a little too early as a baby and ended up learning how to fly later than usual. She’s much more comfortable maneuvering her way on land or in sea rather than in the air. She may not be the most experienced flyer, but she’s quite agile on foot and great at hunting fish. I’m not sure if nightlights all have retractable teeth, but also for one reason or another only her bottom row of teeth are retractable.

I love the idea/headcanon that Toothless and the LightFury have more babies later on and couldn’t resist making my own. ;u; Blacktide’s got all the grace of her mother in water, and all the dingus aspects of her father on land. 🖤🌊‬

HTTYD OC - Dawn the Dragon Thief 

heyy, it’s ya girl ;) 

Snarky, strong-willed and a force to be reckoned with, Dawn is the youngest of four older brothers. Ambitious and goal-oriented, she’s a quick learner who keeps her emotions guarded as a no-nonsense type of girl despite all the nonsense she enjoys to give her foes. She’s skilled and quick in flight on the back of her Wraith, and a threat in combat when armed with a dagger or two. She also has sectoral heterochromia in both eyes (brown and blue). 

It was about time to update and give her a proper-ish character sheet, especially since the boys got one. Looking back at Dawn’s tag on here, I can see just how much her story has really evolved and taken shape over the past year. Her story certainly isn’t the same as it was in her very first design post.

So, to give a more up to date pitch of her story (without spoilers): 

When a young lass by the name of Dawn loses the tribe, family, and home she once knew, she finds herself taken under the (literal) wing of a dragon and a mysterious dragon vigilante. Befriending the fiercely feared and revered Sand Wraith, Dawn is taught by her new mentor, Valka, the ways of dragons in the home of the Bewilderbeast. Soon, she too becomes a “dragon thief,” going out to save and protect dragons. When an up and coming elite trapper on the rise proves to be dangerous threat to the nest, Dawn makes it her mission to do what she can to stop it (while in search of recovering something(s) she lost on the way).

#ive said this before but again- her eyes are directly inspired from my Bunny Raisin #they are his exact eyes.. HTTYD OC - Randulfr the Rebellious.

Finally made a lil character sheet for this Viking dude that Dawn teams up with later in her story.

Headstrong, brave, and persistent, Randulfr is the honey-eyed heir to his father’s throne as Chief of his respected tribe. There’s an air of confidence about him, he can seem borderline arrogant but he’s good-natured at heart. He’s very sociable and lives for the now. He doesn’t take well to his father’s orders/wishes- nor any authority for that matter. Hence where his Rebellious surname came from. A wild child in his youth, Randulfr first crossed paths with Dawn as kids. On a few occasions his tribe would travel to meet hers for important talks of treaties, trades, and such ally chieftain matters. As a boy he tagged along with his father on such trips. During their stay, he’d play with the other kids his age which is where he met Dawn. And.. well... they didn’t get along all that well back then. Up to this point, duty to his tribe pretty much came second only to his true fleeting ambitions. Randulfr’s future has been planned out for him for as long as he could remember. Set in stone. Stuck in an arranged marriage for the sake of politics with the heavy mantle of Chiefdom looming over head, it really is no wonder the young heir is willing to do whatever he can to cherish the little freedom he has left before it’s gone. Which is why when a familiar face is up against a force that may require a little more than one human and two flying reptiles, he nearly jumps at the chance to get away and he won’t take no for an answer.
