they did it with teen titans GO too, the creators of the show admitted they never saw the original teen titans and only used clips of the show to get their character designs and vague mannerisms down.
I’m so sick of writers and actors who are making adaptations of popular franchises purposefully not learning about the characters or the story of the thing they’re adapting. Taika Waititi did it with Thor, the guys making the Halo show did it, Pedro Pascal did it with Last of Us, and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Contrast that with Peter Jackson who lived the Lord of the Rings and obviously loved the source material. It led to one of the most beloved movie series of all time. Because it was made for the people who loved Tolkien’s work and the people who didn’t yet know they loved it. It wasn’t made to satisfy some director’s or actor’s need to change things to either make a political point or leave their own stamp on something that isn’t theirs. Adaptations should be made by people who love the source material.
Not to mention how non-ADHDers react to this memory loss. Its seemingly always vwith frustration, anger, resentment, disappointment, confusion, etc. all negative reactions to this.
“how could you forget x” “i literally just said...” “you didnt forget, you just didnt want to do it” etc. Mix that with a little bit of rejection sensitive dysphoria and you’ve got a recipe for depression.
I hate that no one talks about just how distressing memory loss from adhd actually is. I always see memes that are like “haha I forgot my phone, I don’t remember where my laptop is, etc”, but no one seems to talk about how it can really fuck you up long term to just, not remember things that are completely mundane to non-adhd’ers. The memory loss is, however, so frustrating to us. I cannot physically count how many meltdowns I have had over the sheer mental frustration and torture of not being able to remember seemingly simple things
