"I get that a lot. Most people aren't built like brick houses with the height to match," he dryly chuckled, looking down at her.

"I don't care. If it's hot, and you hand it to me, I'll drink it."
"Oh, come with me, then."
She wrapped her forearm around his. Her eyes looked up--then lingered, making her gawk at him.
"You're bigger than I thought." A laugh of disbelief, "Hah! Perspective makes a terrific difference." She placed a hand on him, her tone warm and mothering when paired with her perfectly inoffensive touch.
Tumblr media
"Let me guess. Straight black for you? Double shot?"

The voice of a person startled Zartan out of his own thoughts- not that he would complain. He wasn't exactly in the best headspace.
Tumblr media
He heaved a sigh. "Sure."
Tumblr media
"You poor, haggard thing. I've seen that look before, from someone who was ready to give up on life."
Tumblr media
"...Coffee?"

Rick didn’t have time to touch the box that Thea jumped on the desk. The pup did nothing, but he pulled back with his chair back against the wall.
“Ciao, pa. Been a while, uh?” Rook said, finally showing herself, “Still wasting money on stupid shit, I see.”
He reached for the box, but soon realized it was a dud.
“Hey! If you’re still around, I’ll pay you double if you get her out of my way!”

“Yes, yes. Here’s your payment.” He patted a small cardboard box on his desk, “With a little extra in view of future collaborations.”
He motioned with his hand to hand the artifact over, somehow missing the door to his office cracking open and the room getting warmer.

The man in question was chilling at his desk, a cup of coffee in one hand. Everybody else had already left but Rick just really liked spending time in his office, as to be expected with the miserable life he conducted.
“You’re here at last. Did you find it?”
In the meantime, Rook was sneaking past the remaining security on the way up.

“I’m gonna kick his ass so hard—”
Rook was quick to move her motorcycle in a different spot and dismount while still cursing quietly to herself. She stopped just a moment to get her dog, then walked off to a section of the outer wall she knew wasn’t covered by the surveillance to climb over.

“Hold on, pup.”
The ghosts waved them off, before returning to their ghostly business. Rook had no trouble keeping up, being more than used to speeding through traffic.

“Well, then don’t drive into the trees. It’s that simple.”
And she hardly needed to worry, as she was ready to go. Rook looked up as some ghosts emerged from the building the moment she revved up her bike.

"Please. Weaving through traffic is so much easier than weaving through an untamed swamp. People move out of the way, trees don't. Try to keep up."
Rook donned her helmet on the way down, then placed Thea in her usual spot before climbing on herself.
“Guess you’ll have to lead the way. Try not to crash, I can’t heal you if your small smooth brain is splattered all over the road.”

“After you, big guy.”
Or rather, they would both be following Thea. The pup ran ahead the second Rook opened the door. Rook chuckled, grabbing her helmet on the way out.

Thea showed her fangs in her best impression of a grin. She knew she could get the human to be nice to her!
“His tank is by the window. He likes to sneak out so make sure it’s locked.”
Pi was, in fact, already trying to escape.

“I’m glad we agree on that. Make sure to leave Pi here.”
It seemed the effects of the poison had worn off. Thea gave Zartan’s legs a headbutt, clearly indicated he should really hurry up.

“It doesn’t matter what I believe. What’s important is that Lucien doesn’t get used again. So you bet you’re gonna get a warning.” She poked him in the chest to empathize she meant it, “Come on, pup.”
Thea barked and trailed after Rook as she went to retrieve her keys.

Lucien stepped closer and gave Zartan a kiss. “Come back soon, my love.” He then left to head up to the roof.
“He’s really happy.” Rook said, before looking back, “I hope it’ll stay that way.”

“Your gun will be drawn, maybe. I’m expecting some stray spells.”
“Yes, I will leave you two to your whimsical adventures.” Lucien said, standing and taking the pie with him, “I have a garden to tend to. Shall we go?”
The ghost lady nodded and phased through the ceiling.

“Are you going to tag along now that your bf’s here?” Rook asked Lucien.
“Heavens no! Knowing you, I’m going to get shot at.” Lucien replied, “Zartan knows where to find me when he’s done.”

“Well, pardon me for being concerned about what the two of you together could set ablaze if left unsupervised.”
“I’ll spare your shop.” Rook promised.
The ghost lady quietly gave Lucien some pie as well. He needed it to deal with that menace of her daughter. There was none for Zartan, though. She was still annoyed at him.
