You are my little pretty hummingbird
Such a longing your little wings have stirred
You replenish me like a bright spring rain
Your smile is a balm for all of my pain
& you fill me with a prismatic light
To welcome growth where there was once but blight
More lovely to me than the starry skies
You will always be my favorite surprise

Fearing the poison

Those brittle, wavy
Mirrors will try to break you—
The spiderweb cracks
Of beauty lost, or never
Had, how ugly never leaves

Let me rest my weary bones
Amongst the blossoms

Weariness, no stardust left
I'm just a flicker

My sister is obsessed with
Where we came from, who
We were, what we grew
What we lost
While I am rootless, apathetic
Uninterested in our ancestry
It fills me with this apathy
No urgency
Why try to plant
A brittle dead branch?
Why count the trees
Of a forest on fire?

Sinister greeting
Or a bright welcoming light?
This soft glow just blooms

What would make me feel better?
A forest, a sea, a hand-written letter
A wide road to wander, a ride on a train
Bright blue galoshes to splash in the rain
A picnic, a swing, a bottle of beer
Eight billion stars on a night that is clear
A kiss from a puppy, a roll down a hill
To run in a meadow just for the thrill
A day in museums awestruck by the glow
A trip to a place where wildflowers grow
Somewhere to make my clenched jaw release
A place in the sun that feels much like peace

It just seems a most appropriate thing
That world poetry day is in the spring
The trees are budding, the bright flowers bloom
We find escape from unending gloom
The frosts are all waning, the days grow long
The endless heavens are now thick with song
We're storing our sweaters, going for walks
Watching the daffodils sprout from their stalks
Something like hope is springing from the ground
Laughter lilts softly, such a welcome sound
Soon we'll see groundhogs emerging with glee
From winter's cold grip we will be set free
Days growing warmer, shadows disappear
The taste of joy becoming stronger than fear

The weightlessness of water
The way the sea enfolds me
Like a mother, but a fickle
Lover she leaves me listless
Surrounded by self loathing
Lonely, longing for six more
Arms to squeeze as she slips
Out of view—
Maybe in my next life I'll
Live as a blobfish
At the bottom
In a shadow safe and warm

Maybe my back is broken branches
Beckoning for solvent spring
I know for certain the sun
Unfurls my face from this
Winter morning, mostly
I just call the ache a growth
The delicate blooms will
Pepper my bare arms
Soon the honeysuckle
Will find its way home
The blue bird and blue sky
Grow closer each day

I am dressed only
In dilapidated dreams
I'm never lonely
In a house of haunted screams
Little's ever as it seems
