Oh brother (pt 2)

She'd turned around to the sight of bright pinks and yellows. Even more stunned when he placed two large bundles of said bright colors.

Inuyasha, whom was only turned for a moment faced his brother now. However the sight had him sputtering and cackling like a mad man. He wheezed so loudly, that little Rin tugged his sleeve wanting to know what was so funny.

"Lord Inuyasha, what's so funny? I want to know," she giggled at his antics.

"His greatness, Lord Sesshomaru has brought Lady Kagome a thousand of the sweetest buds," Jaken squaked loudly.

By now, Inuyasha was on the brink of tears and red in the face. He had not thought his brother would take what he said so literally.

Seeing the commotion, Shippo rounded his mother. His eyes immediately narrowed, his overprotective nature bubbling up.

Nervously, Kagome's eyes skittered from each of the bouquets. Dear kami, there was so many.

Hearing the continued laughter, Sesshomaru sighed his eyes nearly rolling in his skull.

If not for her, he'd have already had have beat the boy with the bouquet in his arms.

Courting your younger idiotic brother's best friend was the test of all tests.

Sorry I was gone for so long! I had a lot of things smack me all at once...😅

Honestly, ever since becoming a fanfic writer myself I’ve become like 500% more understanding and patient about other authors’ update schedules. An author takes 6+ months to post their next chapter? Yeah, totally get that real life can get in the way. An author abandons a fic? Disappointing, but it happens- sometimes inspiration for a story just dies. An author apologizes about taking so long to post a 10k word chapter? Dude, that’s like 18-20 pages on Word single-spaced. It takes me at least a week to write an essay for school a quarter the length of that, and that’s with a deadline. 

It’s probably the most important thing writing fanfic has taught me, tbh. How to fully appreciate the hard work someone else has put into their story. How important the role of the audience is to an author. And that no matter what, you are never entitled to demand more of a story that you are getting for free.

Remember that your story is important, no matter what its theme or purpose is.

Some stories are important because they're a call to action, a warning, or a wake-up call

Some are important because they illuminate a unique or complex experience that others want or need to know about

Sometimes they're important because they comfort people in an experience they've personally had

Sometimes they're important because they change a reader's perspective, making the familiar strange or the strange familiar

Sometimes they're important because they provide factual information in an accessible and interesting way

Sometimes they're important because they inspire the audience's imagination

Sometimes they're important because they make a reader feel good and bring them joy. These are sometimes the most undervalued stories, so if your intention as a writer is to write a happy story that feels good to read and makes someone smile, please take to heart that your work is just as important as every other kind of work mentioned.

I made this comic five years ago, and it's still probably one of the most personal things I've written.

Transparency

He'd not visited her. He simply was more present in the village, that's all.

It's not like he sought her out.

No. Not at all. She just happened to be the only adult competent of holding proper conversations with.

It's not like he was now standing in her doorway watching her gather her and the boy's washings.

"Look, I know why you've been around so much lately," she sighed. "He's a good kid. You should know that well enough," she lifted the basket.

"She is free to choose whom she spends -"

"Yeah, yeah, Papamaru," she smiled. "Rin really likes him, you know." While his features did not change, she saw the shift in his iridescent gaze. "Don't worry, I'll watch them while you're not around," her eyes smiled at him. "And if he does anything to hurt her, I'm sure Sango will even help teach her baby brother how a lady should be treated," she giggled softly.

He stared at her, "I see you have not fully integrated into wearing proper-"

"No," she scolded, "Don't you dare say something about my thermal dress! It's cold, and a kimono does not cut it in wintertime. I don't care about your 'proper' yadayada. It's not like I've access to- "

Before he registered the thought, he spoke, "Ask this one."

A nervous laugh escapes her after a moment, "No, that's a bit much."

He followed behind her to the river bed, the silence was heavy even for nighttime.

He grumbled in his thoughts, 'Let me be as clear as possible.' His fingers caught gently catching the obsidian strands, freezing her in her tracks. Her startled unblinking gaze slowly meeting his.

After a pregnant pause, she finally spoke nervously, "Do I stink?"

This was proving more difficult than he'd thought it would be...
