ezzideen's recounting of eid during the genocide, translated and put together by boshra. all sides have alt text and full transcript under the cut.

slide 1: A picture of a lit candle in the darkness.
Title: Story of Eid Through the Eyes of Ezzideen Translated from Ezzideen's Facebook page
slide 2: For ten consecutive years, the arrival of Eid brought a lump to my throat, a lump with many meanings for me (exile from my country, being away from my mother, my beloved, and my family and relatives, in a country where no one else knew of Eid's arrival but me). Before coming here, I thought long and hard about what I should do during the Eid days. I imagined thousands of scenarios: How would Eid pass?
slide 3: Which house would we visit first? Should I give out Eidi (gifts to children, like my uncle's grandchildren and my cousin Abu Bilal's children)? Would the first house we visit be my grandmother's? How would my mother react when I give her the Eidi? What would be our first breakfast? Should I go to the Eid prayer in jeans or in traditional clothes? Where would I and the young men of the family spend Eid night? And many, many more details, from where we would spend the first night of Eid to what kind of nuts we would buy for the guests.
slide 4: And today, on Eid day, here I am writing this text without needing to know answers to any questions, because Eid has passed like this: My big uncle's house was destroyed (no need to visit it), my uncle's grandchildren and my cousin's children have died (there is no one to give Eidi to), my grandmother also has died (no reason to visit her house, as it suffers in silence as we do), there is nothing in the markets fitting for the luxury of an Eid breakfast (and if found, no one in the country can afford it),
slide 5: Abboud, Bilal, Ahmed, Mohammed, and Yusuf were killed (the adornment of our family's youth) so there is no need to think about where to spend the first night of Eid, no need to choose what I wear for the Eid prayer (as no prayers are held and no mosques are in this country), and my mother? My beloved, I am ashamed to even mention to you that it is Eid! As for the rituals of Eid, there is no ritual but to cry in imposed silence, for even God wept silently for the martyrs this morning as the rain fell.

[Image description: Digital drawings of two original characters in black and white. The Ferrier wears a black, wide-brimmed hat; a shirt with puffy sleeves and an embroidered collar, cuffs, and hem; a vest with geometric patterns; a black, sleeveless overcoat with two lighter stripes near the hem; loose pants; and black sandals. They appear to have short, messy black hair, and their hat casts a shadow over their eyes.
The Sacrifice's clothes are almost entirely white and intricately embroidered. They wear a loose, long-sleeved shirt; a cropped and wide-collared vest which is buttoned together; dimije (voluminous pants which are gathered at the ankle); a cap with coins sewn into the sides; a very long veil which ends in tassels and is pinned to the cap; a necklace of coins; a belt of large metallic roundels; and black shoes. They have long, curly black hair and several moles on their face.
In the first drawing, the Ferrier stands while wringing their hands with an extremely flat expression. The Sacrifice stands behind them and carries a bag, looking off to the side with a small smile.
Next is a comic featuring the two of them, with all of the speech bubbles being cut out from Discord screenshots. There are full descriptions of all of the pages under the cut. End image description.]
first drawing based on this painting of a peasant and nun going to the market by amedeo preziosi; comic based on a convo between me and @wildcatfourteen that reads uncannily like our ocs LOL. happy birthday my friend <33
[Image description: Page one. The Ferrier has a small smirk as they point to an image which reads, "some of y'all would melt down in this situation. ONE HAS GOT TO GO: THE EYE, THE FORMLESS, THE ECSTATIC, THE SUN, THE WOUND, THE EGG." The Sacrifice replies with a carefree smile, "how can you choose ?? are they not all as g_d ordained ??" The next panel shows that the two are sitting on opposite sides of a rowboat, which is stopped at the bank of a river going through a forest. The Sacrifice says, "i mean i guess if youre talking like which motifs i personally like to use in my hymns … i dont do much with the egg so that one" The Ferrier frowns and says, "I don't know if I can forgive u for saying that. Egg… U GET RID OF EGG?" The Sacrifice: "WHICH ONE WOULD U GET RID OF??" The Ferrier: "The ecstatic"
Page two. The Sacrifice stares in astonished silence for a moment, and then says with a cartoony vein popping from their cheek, "I think ur saying that on purpose to piss me off. to get back at me for saying ehg. Why do u hold such hate in your heart" The Ferrier closes their eyes and says nonchalantly, "I'm sorry it's not out of hate." They look off to the side and mutter, "Except u started this with ur egg slander" The Sacrifice glares at them with dismay and says, "THE HATE IN YOUR HEART IS OVERTAKING YOU" The Ferrier glares back, smiling through gritted teeth, and replies, "LOOK IN THR MIRROR"
Page three. The Ferrier pinches the bridge of their nose and says, "I can't believe this is what's causing an argument" The Sacrifice puts their hands on their hips and snaps, "I WASNT EVEN SLANDERING EGGS? IM JUST SAYING PERSONALLY IF YOU FORCED ME? I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST EGGS I EAT THEM ALL THE TIME" The Ferrier: "ITS NOT ABOUT EATINF THEM EVEN THO THEY ARE DELICIOUS AND VERSATILE." They roll their eyes and add, "Sorry for wanting to shatter my shell and be birthed anew" The Sacrifice clasps their hands together with a smile, their eyes hidden by their speech bubble, and says, "see thats the thing for me there is no rebirth only resurrection . its not dying and being birthed anew its about dying and then undying . coming back from death with none of the catharsis of newness just being forced to hold on to the old and what you once were ." The Ferrier pulls their hat down over their eyes and argues, "You say that and yet that is the whole point there is never any real birth of newness but just the illusion of it and the necessity to keep that illusion bc there is no coming back anew but taking whatever dead pieces u have and reconstructing some choppy form of a fresh creature"
Page four. The two sit in silence for a moment. Then the Ferrier says matter-of-factly, "Just like how ecstatic state is fake" The Sacrifice glares at them and says, "how DARE you say ecstatic state is fake ." The background turns black as the Ferrier's eyes go wide, gazing dramatically down at the viewer. They thunder, "ITS TEMPORARY" The Sacrifice, also on a black background, holds their palms up with an ecstatic grin. One of their eyes is teary and a bright halo flashes around their head. They answer, "AS ARE ALL THINGS."
Page five. The Ferrier, looking irritated with a cartoony vein popping from their temple, says, "fine. Fine whatever." They turn away with gritted teeth. "I'm gonna go in my egg shell and not come out EVER !!!!" The Sacrifice smiles with a thumbs up and says, "ok you do that im gonna be out here achieving union with the Beloved 👍" The Ferrier turns as far away from the Sacrifice as they can and crosses their arms. "U go do that. Hmph!" The Sacrifice does the same. "HMPH -_-" A school of black fish swims through the river. A line at the bottom of the panel reads, "THEY STAYED LIKE THIS FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS." End image description.]

in case you have not heard, student activists at columbia and barnard have made a liberated zone in solidarity with those facing genocide in gaza on their university's main lawn with the goal of finally getting columbia university to divest from israel and its genocide against the palestinian people. there have been many arrests and a lot of police surveillance and brutality. more information on this can be found here:
article one (hellgate) / two (hellgate) / three (the nation)
the venmo of the activists has been spread far and wide and apparently they have more money than they know what to do with, however i want to take a second to share this petition urging columbia not to suspend or arrest any more of its students:
TELL COLUMBIA: NO MORE SUSPENSIONS, NO MORE ARRESTS! WE WILL NOT REST UNTIL COLUMBIA DIVESTS!!

[Image description: A digital drawing of Atou Haruki. He sits at a table with a content smile and is about to start eating from a plate of sarma and lemon slices. The dark roots of his hair are showing, and he wears a stud earring. Most of the drawing is colored in light blue and shaded with dark blue hatching, though Atou's skin has some light pink shading. Two gloriosa lilies and several vines stretch out from behind him, in full color. End image description.]

[Image description: A poem titled “Straitened breast and unfreed tongue” written Sunday, April 14, 2024: My Beloved, why do I hate the sound of my father praying and my mother singing? // Because they reduce praise to breath and consolation to nonsense. // My Beloved, why do I hate the sound of my father eating and my mother walking? // Because he starved you; because she stranded you. // My Beloved, why do I hate? // Because I, too, hate their abominations—“their sons and their daughters they burn in fire.” // My Beloved, but You have commanded: “Honor your father and your mother”; “do not say ‘uff’ to them, and do not rebuke them.” // I am the One Who inspires you to say each day in the month before the gates of Heaven close: “Though my father and my mother abandon me, ה׳ will gather me in.” // My Beloved, but they will say that I put words in Your Mouth. // I am the One Who puts words into the mouths of My messengers. // My Beloved, but I am not a messenger. // “We do not punish until We have sent a messenger.” The oppressed child is a messenger to the evildoing parents. // My Beloved, but the message goes unheard and the messenger is the one punished. // Endure, or I will return the entire world to vanity and void. // My Beloved, but I believe neither that You can destroy, nor that You can save. // Find something to believe in, or you will die. // My Beloved, why do You leave me to the sword of Khaḍir? // Fend it off, or scripture will never be subverted. End image description.]
citations: qur’an 26:13, deuteronomy 12:31, exodus 20:12, qur’an 17:23, psalm 27:10, qur’an 17:15, midrash elle ezkara, qur’an 18:65–82
i just especially wanted to bring attention to the midrash because despite how affecting it is, it doesn't seem very well-known. probably because there's no accessible english translation that i can find—hebrew available here. (i hadn't heard of the liturgical poem that it's drashing before, either; here's an old essay by rabbi brant rosen about it. though there's still much more to martyrdom than what he addressed then.) this is the quote from rabbi michael strassfeld's a book of life (pg. 494–5) which introduced the midrash to me:
"Rabbi Ishmael was one of the talmudic sages martyred by the Romans. Under torture, he cried out bitterly and his cry shook the heavens and the earth. Then he cried out a second time, and this cry shook the very throne of G_d. The ministering angels said: Such a righteous person should die so cruelly! Is this the Torah and its reward! A bat kol (heavenly voice) called forth and said: One more cry and I will turn the world into tohu u-vohu (chaos). Rabbi Ishmael was silent and died."

RTVS Palestine Fundraiser, April 12th-14th
Tumblr media
This weekend, Radio TV Solutions will be holding a 3 day marathon fundraiser event for the people of Palestine.
All weekend long, we will be streaming a variety of games and events in an effort to raise money for on-the-ground aid groups and direct Palestinian support campaigns.
The event will not be a traditional stream fundraiser, rather than pointing people at one donation point, we will be suggesting many different support recipients, and you may donate to any of them. You can then submit your donation amount to be tallied into our rough total.
The information document detailing suggested groups/campaigns to support will open up closer to when the event starts, as well as a schedule of events for the weekend. The event will be hosted on my twitch channel, where http://stream.rtvsfundraiser.live/ links to.
Lastly, if you know of any GoFundMe's or similar site campaigns for Palestinians that you trust as legitimate, please send an e-mail to [email protected] with links and details, and I will add as many as I can to the event document.
Please tune in and support however you can, whether that be through donations, spreading the word, anything and everything helps. Even if you can't or don't want to tune in, please consider donating. See you this weekend!

Therion crosses his arms and looks off into space, thinking, "He can't crawl through vents... How are we going to infiltrate Claw like this?" An arrow pointing to Teru is labelled "almost 5'3" and a half," while an arrow pointing to Therion is labelled "4'11"." End image description.]

this call was released anonymously (understandably) but my local Palestinian organizers who I literally trust with my life have endorsed it, and it seems to be gaining momentum in multiple cities, so I encourage you all to get involved:
"A proposal to coordinate a multi-city economic blockade on April 15th in solidarity with Palestine recently received overwhelming commitments to participate around the US and internationally.
The proposal states that in each city, we will identify and blockade major choke points in the economy, focusing on points of production and circulation with the aim of causing the most economic impact, as did the port shutdowns in recent months in Oakland, California and Melbourne, Australia, as just a few examples.
There is a sense in the streets in this recent and unprecedented movement for Palestine that escalation has become necessary: there is a need to shift from symbolic actions to those that cause pain to the economy.
As Yemen is bombed to secure global trade, and billions of dollars are sent to the Zionist war machine, we must recognize that the global economy is complicit in genocide and together we will coordinate to disrupt and blockade economic logistical hubs and the flow of capital."
