Spring 21.

It was the turning of the sands outside that he heard first.

His sleep-kissed lids fluttered open in confusion, bed creaking under his shifting weight.

Surely no one would trudge through to get to his cabin in such weather.

Well, no one except..

A beat and then his cabin door was wide open.

And there they were, their bed clothes clinging onto their body, hair askew.

Their eyes met before his eyes fell on the pendant they clutched in their hands. 

His vision started to blur, and soon they were in his arms.

There really was no one else he would spend the rest of his life with.

I can’t write. Well, actually I can ‘cause I’m writing this letter to you but you need to come here, immediately.  The farmer sent me a letter. I know we’ve exchanged so many letters, you’ve always told me how I can’t seem to stop talking about that.

This one’s different. It’s consumed so much of my thoughts and have gifted me multiple days of sleepless nights. It’s just a letter. They probably didn’t even mean to write it like they did. I keep telling myself this over and over again, I truthfully may be overanalyzing this but.. they’re not even here yet they occupy every quiet lingering moment of my day. Living in a shack on the beach you get pretty long moments of silence, and quite frankly it’s about to drive me mad.

I am definitely not overthinking this. Am I overthinking this?

As to what drove me to be like this; They signed off their letter with their name as they always do, but instead of putting their usual “yours” before their name for their sign off, they put your.

Leah, we just got the wooden baby toys you sent in the mail. They are marvelous! We’re deeply sorry that it took us this long to open your package and respond to your letter. 

Our mail’s been swamped with letters and packages ever since word spread about Calliope. We’ve also been working on quite a few builds and lansdcaping south of the farm. Guess the wife wants to get as much work on the farm done while Calli is young enough that she sleeps most of the time.

Robin recently finished building some fish ponds and making the preserve jars while carrying a newborn has not been easy. Sometimes I really do wonder how such a little being can be the very thing that holds my world in balance.

Ah..I am so sorry for being so sappy all of a sudden. I think I might be overdue for a drink at the Stardrop, might see you there on friday. And yes, I’m going to make you hold Calli while I drunkenly dance with my wife. Like old times.
