Dumbledore’s Farewell

With all the disappointment of not getting more of this story and struggling witn my mental health, I’ve kept away, but I can’t help commenting on this.
It’s no wonder that we had to do mental gymnastics and meta the hell out of the character arcs. This should have never been such a short movie and to be honest it barely cut it as a single movie. It should have been either a series or a novel. It’s a pity because the cast is so good! They managed to convey so much within the chopy through their expressions and physicality within the mess that was delivered.
Mind you, TSoD is a movie I’ll be watching again and again and I’m fond of it. But it’s like bullet-points of a story; not a fully fleshed-out one.
Tumblr media
Like, one of the biggest criticisms you’ll remember me having, other than the fact that the character arcs felt interesting but without us getting a sense of how we go from point A to point B and the development being rushed, is that Grindelwald’s side was underdeveloped and his followers felt like cardboard. Then we get this! 40% of Gellert’s lines cut, Helmut (who had potential) being butchered, possibly more development for his other followers. This could have been a nuanced magical political thriller in the best way possible with a love story on top.

So, Zaslav said this: “We’re going to have a real focus on franchises. We haven’t had a Superman movie in 13 years and we haven’t had a Harry Potter movie in 15 years.”
Warner Bros is clearly obsessed with profit, not acknowledging anything tha doesn’t give them the numbers of the golden days.He seems to be interested in Harry Potter; not Fantastic Beasts.
There were no updates on the franchise.

When I watch interviews or any other SoD video, I get the impression that Jude is not happy that Johnny has been changed to Mads, or that he doesn't like Mads in general. During the premiere, I do not know if they took at least one photo together. What do you think?
While they didn't take photos together, I find this to be a stretch to say the least.
The promotion of this movie was scarce, so we got few interviews etc. Nevertheless, in everything we saw, Jude seemed very positive about Mads being cast and was really appreciative of the way he workd. Not to mention he hadn't worked at all with Johnny, so there wasn't even an issue of Jude having been used to an actor and feeling off about recreating an already established chemistry with a different person.
Overall I feel this is just speculation without precedent.

I lost my sister 4 years ago, she was like my Ariana. Knowing that Dumbledore accepted his sister's death, even if it broke his heart forever, is inspiring to me. Imagining my sister saying farewell during my nightmares scares me, like a boggart. Even if he's a fictional character, I recognize myself in Dumbledore's history. His wisdom and his philosophy helped me to move on, to continue my life. He's really an inspiring character!
I'm so sorry about your sister! I cannot imagine how that kind of loss feels like. I hope you're finding your way to cope!
I'm glad he resonates with you and help you in this way in such a hard time! This is part of what I enjoy about this character. He encompasses so much raw emotions experienced through awful situations (guilt, grief, self-hatred etc.) but he also ends up being such a functional man, tries to help his society and always cares for what other people are going through. At the same time he is flawed in his way.
Without him being perfect, he is caring and strong in a profound way that is admirable.

Richard Coyle responded on twitter to the person spreading the rumor of the series being confirmed.
He said that maybe a discussion he had at stage door gave the person the information originated from the wrong idea, but he confirmed nothing about a series happening, but still has his fingers crossed for more Fantastic Beasts.

Are you still on hiatus or you coming back any time soon ?
I wouldn't call it a hiatus as much as being depressed af and struggling in a way I haven't in some time.
This was a good nudge and I promise I'll start by answering my neglected asks one by one and try to be more active.

With all the rumors about Richard Coyle confirming that the Dumbledore series, produced by and starring Jude Law, is in early development, I have mixed feelings.
I think it could end up being really good or really terrible, and at the end of the day I think that it depends on the level of input Rowling will have to the story for me.
I’m hoping we’ll have an announcement by WB somewhere between mid to the end of November.

Why didn't Credence say he was the kid Graves was looking for? After all, Credence knew that he wielded a destructive power that could only be called magic?
For a long time Credence was not fully conscious of wielding that power. It was a parasite that came out in bursts and the first time he seemed to have fully realised it was when he killed his abusive guardian.

Did students turn to Dumbledore for relationship advice? What if he was approached by a boy who was in love with another boy and had trouble accepting himself?
Did the students try to seduce/flirt/confess their love to Dumbledore? And how did he react to it?
He was their teacher and the headmaster. Both scenarios seem fanfictionish.

So, is Dumbledore thinking about Ariana or Grindelwald?
Or both?
Quote from Book 5, Order of the Phoenix:
"People don't like being locked up!" Harry said furiously...
Dumbledore closed his eyes and buried his face in his longfingered hands...
I definitely think he's thinking of Ariana here. Grindelwald's imprisonment was a sentence. Ariana was an innocent whom he loved and his mother and brother loved, but they had to lock her up to protect her and the world from her. It fits much more the situation he and Harry are talking about.

Do you think dumbledore will (or would, if credence doesn’t show up in FB4) start referring to credence as “aurelius” instead? I thought the “my name is aurelius” scene was interesting because dumbledore using the name that credence didn’t like seemed similar to how he refuses to call tom riddle “voldemort”. but if aurelius really is credence’s birth name, i don’t see any reason for dumbledore to keep using the name credence instead...
Albus didn't know of the name being Aurelius before that scene. He always knew him as Credence and he learned of Credence's real identity then. He later refers to him as Credence when discussing him, but that's how Newt, to him he wss talking, new the man.
While 'Voldemort' was the name of choice of a murderous cult leader who was trying to transcent his humanity, so calling him Tom was Albus' perception of Voldemort as a mere human despite all of his efforts, Credence's choice of 'Aurelius' reflects his need to reclaim the idenity that connects him to his family and to leave behind his years of loneliness and abuse. So I definitely think that after the events of the movie Albus would adapt and consciously get used to call Credence by his name of choice.

1. Do you think that behind Gellert's behavior there is a childhood trauma / or related to visions of the future and war?2. If it's related to a trauma he probably told Albus about, or Albus himself deduced it did, then do you think Albus understands the reasons for Gellert's behavior? I mean with special treatment.Let's face it, such a strong aversion does not come from nowhere
I do not agree about such strong aversion coming from nowhere. It can come from a supremacist family or social circle quite easily. It happens with racists all the time in real life.
When it comes to Gellert, I definitely think that there WILL be a deeper reason and that he has elaborated part of it with Albus, but I don't think he has let on his trauma on its full extent. I imagine him trying to seem righteous and not like an animal that attacks because it feels unsafe, but I definitely think that Albus is smart enough and empathetic enough to have a deeper understanding.
As for the reasons behind Gellert's hatred, I hope it's because of his visions. I feel that seeing certin people causing this kind of earth-shuttering war, watching your contemorary politics and seeing everywhere hints of things moving towards what one has envisioned and so on would be absoutely maddening and it's something I find understandable and empathize with even though his actions were still inexcusable.
Also, Voldemort was a psychopath, but his familial drama was essential when it comes to the way he thought of himself and directed his bitterness. So I feel like this is the opportunity to have a perfectly valid 'origin story' that steps outside the trope of traumatic loss, parent-issues etc.

What kind of a organization do you think Lally, Dumbledore and Nicolas Flan are part of. When Dumbledore told Lally to attend the banquet because there was going to be a assassination, she acted like that was normal. Both Newt and Jacob looked scared to death, but Lally acted likes this is something she does every day. I am starting to think that Lally is a spy or she real works for some kind international secret service agency.
Lally is the person that Nicolas Flan called when they were in Paris. They all communicate with each other through books. There is some kind of a Underground organization that they are all part of. I know Lally is a charms professor at Livermorny, but I think the teaching job is just a cover. I don't think she is just working with Dumbledore first army, because she was communicating with Nicolas Flan in the last movie. I think Lally really works for some kind of international wizarding organization. It feels like she has a lot of experience with missions like this, and Dumbledore seemed completely confident in her abilities to stop the assassination attempt.
Lally is the person who kept calm through the entire situation, Jacob, Newt and Theseus all start flipping out. I definitely think she is some kind of a special agent, working for some secret wizarding organization.
I liked Lally interaction with Newt; he seems so happy to see her when she arrived on the train. With the exception of Jacob, I feel like Lally is the only other friend Newt has. I also felt like Lally presence there seem to encourage Newt and to help him get through this mission. Most especially with the absence of Tina.
I hope this will be answered. I don't think that Lally's job is a cover. Similarly to how Albus being a teacher or NF being an alchemist is not a cover. They all have their occupations and are also members of the organisation. I think it's meant to connect wizards who are committed to prevent extremist wizarding acts around the world. NF was not necessarily calling Lally. She was the one present at the moment, but he was searching throughout the book for anyone present until he found her being available. She and Dumbledore have clearly cooperated before as you said. In the book there was also someone with the last name 'Tao'. I wonder if it's Liu Tao who was a candidate in the election. Fingers crossed, that we get to see more.

Aberforth didn’t seem to like Elphias Doge that much. Why do you think that is? How do you see their relationship evolve throughout the years?
Frankly, I don't think that Aberforth disliked Doge as a person. I think his bitterness has a lot to do with the way Doge idolized Albus and thought of him as a flawless snowflake who could do no wrong. On top of that they lacked common interests (as he was with Hagrid for example), so there wasn't much more to make Elphias likable to Abe.
That said I don't think they would be unfriendly or that Aberforth would be hostile when called to work with Elphias for the order.

successful vacation? have you rested? :)
It was AMAZING. I stayed in my country (Greece) but I don't visit locations with too many tourists because I prefer the calm.
So I enjoyed an amazing combination of the sea, mountains and fields, with a lot of reading, walking, swimming and visiting the nearby locations.
It's the only time I have off work it's year and I'm sound-sensitive and have constant headaches because of the phone, not to mention my stress-levels, so it was a very much needed recharge of my batteries.
