as a cult and ramcoa survivor, make sure to be careful with this :)
i feel like i never see enough cult whump on tumblr, even though it’s like so perfect for ruining ocs lives
like,
1. multiple whumpee’s, which means more trauma (sharing is caring). some people don’t like to write multiple whumpee’s and that’s ok, but think about it this way, the more whumpee’s you make, the more characters you have to kill off
2. have you ever READ the things that cults do to their victims?? it’s SO fucked up. the brainwashing, the shaming, the guilt.
3. potential religion theming. and god, do i LOVE writing religious trauma. i love the “obsession and devotion even though it’s destroying them” shit so much.
4. who doesn’t love a good charismatic whumper?? who’s gaslighting and manipulating every single person they talk too. they got everyone wrapped around their finger.
i would write this myself but i’m actually really bad at writing so i’m not going too, but if i inspired anyone please tag me. i’m desperate.

When whumpee was rescued, they were mentally and physically spent. They had no energy to cry and sob, no voice to speak to the police, or to tell the doctors what hurt.
They slept for nearly 24 hours, only waking because caretaker shook them to make sure they were still alive.

Anesthesia vs Analgesia vs Sedation vs Paralytic
So, what's the deal? Aren't they interchangeable?
Well, no! Though they can be similar in some ways.
Anesthesia
Good ol "knock out the character" drug. It induces unconsciousness, but will not reduce pain, and doesn't make our character sleepy weirdly enough, or unresponsive to being touched. If you stabbed an anesthetized character, they would still reflexively flinch back. They also won't be truly sleepy, though it will feel like it when they wake up, but that's ultimately just their body fighting off the agent.
Analgesic
This is what you REALLY want when a character's anesthetized. Analgesics are also known as painkillers, so we could stab a character under analgesics and they wouldn't feel anything more than pressure.
Sedation
This one's the sleepy one. It calms and soothes, and though it's possible to fall asleep with it, it's more likely to leave our favorite character pleasantly dazed, but still awake, aware, and feeling pain.
Paralytic
This one's the one that stops movement during surgery, since as mentioned before, our character could still move around, even when unconscious. This is NOT anesthesia, and even if a character is completely unable to move, they are still highly conscious and acutely aware of what pain they're in. Nothing's scarier than being unable to move and feeling a blade bite into you, especially when everyone's oblivious.
Just a brief resource for anyone looking to add some variety to their writing!

i love when someone takes control of a situation while their friend is sick… firmly trying to like assess their condition and asking things like “can you look at me for a second?” and “when was the last time you ate/drank/slept?” and “how long have you had that cough?” and they get soooo serious even though the relationship is generally more light hearted… it makes the care taking so much more special and shows a new side of them that brings out a contrast that i really love to see

Someone who is sick and sneezy? Good! 🥰
Someone who is emotional and crying? Also good! 🥹
Someone who is overemotional when sick, thus is a complete mess, crying and sneezing, and blowing their nose only to cry and sneeze some more? Divine! 🫠😭🥰
Bonus points if there is an SO with a shoulder, neck, or chest to cry and sneeze into.

A and B are out at dinner. A has felt kind of off all day - nothing terrible, and nothing to suggest that they're getting sick. Maybe they're just stressed and should get more sleep. During dinner, they're suddenly hit with a wave of "....oh...I REALLY don't feel good at ALL" and they ask B if they can go home. B agrees VERY quickly bc A goes from looking not great to really sick all of a sudden. It's really cold out, so B gives A their jacket and pulls A close as they walk. When they get home, B has A go change and lie down while they put a blanket or two in the dryer and go get A some meds before they cuddle them and watch a movie.

the weary feverish whumpee aesthetic™
I love it when a whumpee is so weak that they:
are bedridden, much to their discomfort. They long to leave the bed, but cannot because they are too weak, and their legs shake at the thought of taking even a single step.
can't keep their eyes open. Their eyelids flutter but due to tiredness and too much light, they always close again. However, the whumpee has learned to rely on other senses, and is able to recognize the caretaker's voice or touch among a thousand others.
have to always lie down. They try to sit up, perhaps to eat something, but after a few minutes their head starts spinning and their body starts screaming because of the effort. Much to their chagrin, they have to force themselves back down or else they will likely pass out.
are not hungry. Their body can't handle even plain broth, making them queasy and dizzy. So they continue to refuse food, their only source of livelihood, and this obviously worsens their condition.
are too sensitive to touch. Their skin that seems to boil with fever, the bedsheets that rub down their limbs like sandpaper, the hair that sticks to their sweaty forehead, even the simple touch of the caretaker, a touch that is supposed to comfort them. They start to hate all these little things.
Please, feel free to add more.

Sickfic prompts? Listing out my first fave? I genuinely don’t know how to tumblr so here we go…
A and B are out in the ice cold wildness on some mission
- B falls into a frozen lake (maybe they’re on it despite A’s warnings but they’re trying to get something that will help someone)
- A pulls B out, B is barely conscious but sputters out water
- B tries to stand but their legs aren’t working
- A has to carry a soaking wet and hypothermic B through the start of a snowstorm. B fights to stay conscious and A is terrified by the ragged weak breath against their next. They’ve never felt anything so cold
- finding shelter in whatever is nearest…maybe an abandoned cabin or for maximum pain, a cave or overgrowth
- A frantically trying to warm a delirious B, who is resisting anything warm because OMG IT IS SO PAINFUL (and B’s subsequent struggle between lucid moments of wanting to be held by A, feeling freezing, but feeling burned by A’s gentle touch)
- A grows more terrified as B slips in and out of consciousness. B is the one with medical training, A doesn’t even know if they’re doing things right!
- after much detailed angst and hurt/comfort, A finally thinks B’s hypothermia is passing and they’re out of the woods
- but they’re not because A finally lets themselves drift off to sleep, but the next time A wakes up, B is burning with fever and a terrible, rattling cough. They’re limp and pathetic but coherent now which in some ways makes A feel worse than when they did when they were unconscious because B is aware of their situation now and in so much pain, so scared and vulnerable and SMALL (which is totally out of character for B) and A really doesn’t know if/when help is coming

Character who's been in bed with an awful fever for hours now, half delirious and hurting and uncomfortable, waking up groggy and tired to the slightly unfocused and gently smiling face of Caretaker above them, and the words "hey there, you feeling any better?"

Ok hear me out..
Caretaker dips a clean washcloth in a bucket of ice water. They wring it out, fold it horizontally, and place it on a feverish whumpees head. They press the rag on the whumpees cheeks, and under their chin. Whumpee was a bit spacey, not paying attention to caretaker pressing ice cold water on their face. They leave a bit more water on the cloth this time, and lay it on their forhead. “Im gonna run a cold bath, i promise ill be back in just a moment.” All whumpee could do is watch their caretaker exit the room. They couldnt even speak.

“I’m sorry. I have to do this, okay?”
Said by Caretaker before:
Lowering Whumpee into a cold bath for their dangerously high fever
Lowering Whumpee into a lukewarm bath for their dangerously severe hypothermia (it feels boiling to them)
Doing stitches, cleaning and dressing a wound, etc.
Cauterization
Forcing them to eat/drink something after an extended period of illness and/or starvation
Resetting a broken bone
Field surgery
Dragging their ass to an actual hospital
Dragging their ass to an actual therapist
Restraining them during a violent (as in, physically harmful) flashback or nightmare
Inducing vomiting when the Whumpee clearly needs to, but can’t
Uncomfortable medicine (bad-tasting, syringes, aerosolized medicine through a weird mask, etc.)
Moving a Whumpee who’s in a particularly bad state
Tell me more.

You know what I love? When characters wake up to a cold cloth being applied to their forehead.
Maybe they've been in and out of a fever for a while now, blinking through their blurred vision and trying to make out the confused faces and voices around them as some concerned person dabs at their face.
Maybe they had a horrible fever that has now broken, and when they wake up their head is clear again but they're so weak and achy and covered in cold sweat with a now lukewarm compress draped across their head that it takes them a minute to notice.
Maybe they wake up from a nightmare thrashing and gasping and crying out, and somebody at their side already shushing them gently and trying to calm them, sponging sweat from their forehead as they do so.
So many options.

lowkey signs your whumpee is getting sick
aches in odd places, like their hands or their neck
their shirt’s damp with sweat, skin overly sensitive to any draft
a tickle in their throat that won’t go away
eyes that feel like they’re burning
they’re just. so. tired.
swollen lymph nodes that didn’t hurt yesterday
unusual weakness—even lifting light objects feels like a monumental task
that shivery feeling that keeps creeping down their spine without warning
