Please feel free to drop any of these in my inbox! It might help with the writer’s block I’m currently stuck in.
Ask me fic-specific questions!
Drop the title of one of my fics and a number in my inbox, and I will tell you:
What was my inspiration for this fic? How did it come to me?
What’s my favorite part of the fic?
What’s the part of the fic I’m most proud of?
What part of the fic was the hardest for me to write?
What part of the fic am I still dissatisfied with?
Who’s my favorite character in the fic?
Were there any major decisions I made about the fic that could have made it go a whole different direction?
Was there anything I only learned about the fic after I had finished it? (themes, motifs, symbolism, etc)
Did anyone in the fic surprise me by doing anything? If so, what?
If I had to sum up this fic in a sentence, what would it be?
If I were to rewrite this fic, what would I change?
Did any thing about this fic’s reception surprise me?
What were my beta’s major comments about the first draft of this fic?
If I were to write a sequel to this fic, what would it be about?
Any other question about the fic!

Summary: Eurydice tires to cover up the damage but is unsuccessful and Hades takes notice.
-MaKenzie ♥️
--------------------------------------------------------------
Every night Eurydice woke with nightmares, the scene from Friday replaying in her head. Even though she tries to push away the memory she can’t, it’s plastered on her face. There was a sizable cut across her cheek highlighting the darkened skin. With soft movements, she brushed her fingers across her cheek trying not to wince at the pain.
Tears threatened to overflow, but she would not show any more weakness. She had to be strong, there was no other choice for her. No one could know what happened, they would see the true weakness in her then. Weakness is what hurts you and Eurydice is a survivor.
Quickly she touched up her makeup. The poor girl could only afford the cheap stuff so it was fading far too fast for her liking. While the makeup didn’t fully mask what happened it did help lessen the blow. While it could mask the injuries, it could never mask the internal damage. That would be there forever.
Eurydice was thankful Hades was out of the office all day in meetings, one less person to see her damaged state. With an empty office, she was able to let her mind wander to better times, times when things were easy. The emotional trauma allowing her to seek comfort in old memories with the one person she has ever loved.
The ringing of her desk phone broke her from her thoughts, “Mayor Hades' office, how may I help you?” She put on the fake voice of someone happy to be answering the phone. Over the past year, she has perfected her “customer service” voice as she would like to call it.
“Eurydice cancel the rest of my meetings for the day, I am on my way back to the office,” the anger in his voice caused her to tense.
Trying to keep her voice light she responded, “yes, sir,” and hung up. Her anxiety spiked at the thought of him coming into the office, especially if he is as angry as he sounds. When Hades was angry he tended to take it out on his employees and that is the last thing Eurydice needed at this moment.
After angering many people she was finally done making all the cancelations. Right now she was feeling drained, thoughts of all of the bad things that she has been told recently flooding her mind. All she wanted to do was turn it off, turn off all the pain, the memories, everything. She wished she could be paralyzed, unable to feel again. Then she wouldn’t have to feel the pain and the heartbreak and the betrayal that he has brought into her life.
Pounding footsteps caused her to stiffen, her hands shaking. Fear that he would be angry with her setting in, right now his hanger would only set her off. She kept her head down, not wanting to face his wrath head-on. She let out a sigh of relief as he walked straight past on the phone. For now, she has avoided him.
The end of the workday was nearing and Eurydice couldn’t be happier that Hades stayed in his office since returning. She had to make constant trips to the bathroom to touch up her mask, being forced to confront her demons every time. The distant sounding of church bells sounded the end of the day. Quickly she grabbed her things, keeping her head down. “Eurydice,” Hades' deep voice stopped her.
Her knuckles turned white as she gripped her bag. She was so close to freedom and now she was going to have to face him. With a deep sigh, she straightened, pulling out whatever confidence she could find. “Yes, sir?”
The automatic darkening in his features alerted her instant. “What happened?” He took a few steps toward her, trying to get a closer look. No matter how much makeup she put on the injuries shown through. “Who did this to you?” the darkness in his tone frightened the poor girl. She has seen Hades mad before but this...this was different.
Quickly she raised her cheek to cover the mark, trying not to wince no matter how bad it hurt. “It’s nothing,” she didn’t allow him to probe anymore. Her feet carried her away from him, she didn’t need anyone’s sympathy. “Oh great it’s raining,” she mumbled to herself.
The rain was something she always enjoyed. She was envious of the sky, it was allowed to let go of the things holding it down. Clouds have the freedom to let go, she doesn’t. Bitter drops penetrated the thin coat she wore, washing away her mask. She reveled in the feeling of letting go of the mask, it protected her today but now she didn’t need it, no longer needing it to hide.
Suddenly the man that has been recently haunting her stepped in front of her. Her cheek started to throb, reminding her of what happened last time she was in her presence. There were scars of his own littering his face, “It seems like we have some unfinished business.”
The sinister words caused Eurydice to take off in the direction she came from. His long legs allowed him to catch her easily. Before she could scream he covered her mouth before dragging her away. This side of town was not densely populated, it was unlikely anyone would see what is going on. “I suggest you unhand the lady,” this voice brought some comfort to her.
Without turning around the boy fired back, “And who the hell do you think-”
When we came face to face with Hades, the attacker froze. Hades was known for his intimidating appearance and right now he looked like he could murder the boy. Eurydice took this moment of confusion to push away and run towards Hades. “Get in the car Eurydice,” his tone was direct, there was no room for questions.
“Mr. Hades I am fine, I’m just gonna go home,” she didn’t want to take his help. Too much weakness has already been shown and if she went with him she would crumble more. Even though she didn’t want to admit it, she was scared to be alone with him anyway. He would never do anything to her but men have only hurt her recently.
She wanted to run from him the moment his fiery gaze met hers. “I wasn’t asking Eurydice, now get in the damn car!” Fear took over pushing her to get into the car. Hades waited to turn towards the man until she was in the car. She watched as he turned towards the boy, his veins popping out of his neck as he yelled.
No matter how much she was tempted, she refused to watch what was going on outside. Instead, she turned her attention to the luxurious vehicle she was in. The sleek, modern car was the nicest place she has ever been. This car just screamed expensive. She was almost too afraid to move, scared she would break something.
She was so preoccupied with admiring the car that when the door opened she jumped. If Hades was a cartoon character steam would be coming out of his ears. Eurydice opened her mouth to speak but was silenced by the raising of his hand. They rode in silence, to where...Eurydice had no clue.
When they pulled up to Hades’ home she was surprised. Why would he bring her there of all places? Why not just take her home? “Um, Mr. Hades” she kept her voice small, trying not to cause him to explode. He looked at her and she took it as an invitation to continue, “why did you bring me here? Why not take me home?”
The car was put in park but neither of them made a move to get out. They sat in silence for a few moments, it was almost suffocating Eurydice. “Was he the one who gave you the marks in the first place?” his tone was gruff, you could tell he was holding himself back. Too ashamed to answer verbally she just nodded her head.
The slamming of his hand on the steering wheel caused her to jump. Her fear that he would harm her overriding all logic. She pressed herself further into the door, her hand gripping the handle ready to flee. Hades' eyes flew to her hand, he could see just how terrified of her. “I just wanted to keep an eye on you tonight. What you went through was tough kid, no one should ever have to go through it,” it was strange to hear those words coming out of Hades’ mouth. She took comfort in his words, it was the first time she felt cared for by an older man.
He let out a small chuckle, something she rarely hears, “Plus, Steph would chew my ear off if she knew I let you go home alone, unprotected.” Eurydice brightened at the thought of seeing Steph again. She knew that she would be able to seek comfort in the mother figure Steph has become. Noticing the tension leaving her body, Hades opened the door. “Come on Eurydice, let’s go inside.”
She let a small smile grace her face, something she hasn’t done since the incident. They walked up the steps, memories of Orpheus falling to his knees came flooding in. The guilt of how she hurt him squeezed her heart. “Eurydice what happened?” Steph came flying down the hall towards the girl. She pulled her in, providing whatever comfort she could. Eurydice clung to her like a lost child, the tears she had been holding in finally crashing town.
Hades came up to her, whispering in her ear what was going on. The girl sobbed into Steph’s arms, a heartbreaking sound to hear. “Aunt Persephone, what’s going on?” Eurydice instantly stiffened pushing herself away, she just had to see his face.
They both gasped looking into each other's eyes. There stood the boy she loved. She could deny it any longer. Orpheus was home and he stood right in front of her in her weakest moment.

Booze and Bruises
Hello everyone! I am so sorry that I haven’t posted a part in forever but things have been tough and I haven’t had inspiration in what feels like forever! I can’t force myself to write with no inspiration, it just leads to stress and a really bad part.
TW: There is a brief mention of assault in this chapter but I can promise you it is not graphic and I kept it really light! If you cannot read this part because of that I understand.
Summary: Eurydice goes to get drunk to try to cope with how things have changed for her.
-MaKenzie ♥️
------------------------------
This is not possible.
He’s not home!
Why would he be here?
He’s not supposed to be home for another 3 years!
It was hard for Eurydice to focus on the world around her, her thoughts attacking her from every way. She’s convinced that she must be dreaming, that was the only logical reason for what she saw. It seemed too real though...he was right there on his knees begging for her.
When she reached a bench, she sat down to collect her thoughts. Placing her head in her hands she tried to calm her racing mind. Deep breath in...hold it...deep breath out. She repeated this multiple times in an attempt to calm herself. In a cliche fashion, she reached down and pinched her arm, attempting to wake her from this dream, no nightmare that she is stuck in.
Regardless of how many times she squeezed her arm, it was impossible to wake herself. What she was left with instead were a sense of dread and a small bruise. The sinking pit in her stomach was making her head spin. How is this possible? She can’t understand in any way why this was happening to her. She was finally ready to try to accept things and move on and now he comes back.
“I need a drink,” she whispered to herself. With Hermes at the dinner as well she knew that she wouldn’t run into him at the bar. Ever since Orpheus went to school he has been a little distant and there is always a slight look of guilt in his eyes.
Eurydice avoided the bar, a place she once spent many nights at, just to stay away from any remembrance of Orpheus. If there was another bar that wasn’t outrageously dangerous she would have gone there but while she may be miserable she wasn’t that miserable. Warm feelings and memories slowly came flooding in the closer she got to the bar. Memories of her and Orpheus hanging out here, both in the actual bar and the attic upstairs, tugged at her heart.
She pushed herself to get there quicker, begging to be freed by liquor. Normally she wasn’t much of a drinker, or recently she hasn’t been, but right now she wanted to become numb. As much as she has tried to turn her emotions off like before it was impossible, especially now that he was home.
The regular bouncer looked shocked to see her, she went from a regular to a stranger quickly. He instantly held the door open, giving her a warm smile. The familiarity brought in a sense of warmth instantly, she missed this place. With a new pep in her step, she made her way to the bar regardless of the memories trying to flood it in.
With a huff she sat on a barstool, the bar was rather packed which was not out of the ordinary on a Friday night. Back a few years ago she would love to be in an environment like this but now she resented all of the happiness around her. She ordered a few shots ready to get her mind off of everything.
After setting down the shots the bartender leaned on the bar in front of her, “rough day kid?”
Ignoring him, she downed the shots like they were water, savoring the slight burn in the back of her throat. Sometimes she misses this, the feeling of letting go and not worrying about the world around her. The bartender couldn’t help but smile at the young girl’s greed, “the next ones are on the house.”
Eurydice couldn’t turn this down, money is tight. Without thinking she shot him a wink before downing the other shots. Something about the guy was familiar but she couldn’t exactly place her finger on it.
The music vibrated through her veins, cleansing all of the worries, all thoughts of him, from her body. With every passing second, her body slowly loosened up, the alcohol bringing down her defenses. She pushed herself away from the bartop towards the area where people were dancing. Faces she slightly recognized as old high school peers smiled at her. Surprisingly she felt welcomed, not that she truly cared what anyone thought about her...well except one person.
He was trying to slide into her thoughts but she pushed them out quickly focusing on music. Her head rolled back, the beat taking over her body. She found herself dancing to the music, something she hasn’t done in a long. Thoughts of when she would dance and Orpheus just sat watching, too awkward to join her tired to come in.
Her eyes flew shut, forcing herself to see nothing but darkness. She found comfort in the darkness, it welcomed her into its open arms. So lost in the comfort of darkness she didn’t realize someone was dancing with her. The man saw a girl so lost in thought, clearly drunk...an easy target.
She was pulled to the darkness when she felt her body being pulled backward. Her eyes flung open, she was still on the dancefloor but someone was behind her. Hands were placed on her hips forcing her uncomfortably close to the stranger. The alarm bells went off in her head, she may be intoxicated but not near enough to let this happen.
She pushed herself off of him but he tightened his grip on her, there were sure to be bruised from his fingers. “Relax dear, everything is gonna be okay,” he leaned down to whisper in her ear. Panic started to flood in, she knew what he wanted to do with her. “Stop fighting,” his tone was harsher this time, his fingers digging in even deeper.
Eurydice refused to show any weakness, that would only encourage him. She was scared out of her mind at this moment, praying that she could find a way out of this. Part of her wanted Orpheus to come bursting through the door and save her. She let out a little giggle at this thought. Who is she kidding? The only person who could get her out of this situation was herself.
She took the next few minutes to think of how to get out of this. After some deep breaths, she allowed herself to relax into him a bit, tricking him into thinking that she was caving. When his grip loosened on her hips she took the opportunity to turn towards the man. He was tall, well built, it would be difficult to get away but she refused to give in without a fight.
He smiled down at her, the plan was working. With a coy smile she motioned him down with her finger, “you wanna know what’s sexy?” She made sure to try to remain as “sexy” to pull off the stunt. When he raised his eyebrow at her she placed both of her hands on his shoulders bringing her knee to his crotch, hard. “Consent asshole!”
She stepped out of his arms, putting distance between them. Sadly he recovered quicker than she planned but thankfully she got the attention of many of the bar patrons. He reached out snatching her arm, stopping her from getting any further away.
Next thing Eurydice knew, she was on the floor. Her cheek was on fire and she felt liquid trailing from her face. The bartender ran over to the girl helping her up off the floor while others went to restrain the attacker. There was a fire in the man’s eyes that terrified Eurydice, but it also lit the fire inside of her.
With her head held high, she made her way towards the man who just punched her. “You know I feel sorry for you?” she paused waiting to see how he would react. Just as she hoped a look of confusion spread across his face, “I’m sorry that you are truly dumb enough to not understand that no means no not yes. It’s a two-letter word, shouldn’t be that hard to understand.”
The fire raged in his eye as she struggled harder against those holding him. She felt someone lay a hand on her shoulder causing her to turn and slap who touched her. The bartender held his face, “I’m sorry!”
He let out a little laugh before accepting her apology. “Are you okay?” That’s when the stinging in her cheek came back. The throbbing was almost unbearable, it brought tears to her eyes. She refused to cry in front of anyone, you can’t show weakness or that’s all you are seen as...weak.
Without answering she just walked away, too sober to deal with any of this. As soon as she set foot inside her apartment, she slid down the door bursting into tears. What a day this had been.

Mystery Man
It’s finally here! The first ever Hades and Persephone fic! I am super nervous for this one, I really don’t know how good it is or if anyone will even read it. I worked really hard on this fic and I do hope you enjoy it. I was up until 6am and decided to finish this while I couldn't sleep. Anyway, enjoy!
-MaKenzie ♥️
----------------------------------
Persephone was always known as a free spirit. She was known for spreading warmth and joy everywhere she went. Steph enjoyed it when everyone around her was happy and joyous. To her, she always wanted to make the world around her a party!
This “free-spirit” came about because of the way she was raised. When she was younger her mother was a bit stricter than other parents. Not that her mother was cruel or mean in any way she just wanted her daughter to be the best that she could be. Demeter was known for her successful winery and farm to table restaurant that was located just outside of town. She had gone through many different road bumps in her life that shaped her to be who she is.
Those challenges that she faced brought out the desire to help her daughter to be the best. She just wanted her daughter to not have to face the same mistakes and traumas that she experienced. At times she knew that she was overbearing but she would rather be overbearing than allow her daughter to suffer.
Young Persephone saw this as her mother trying to control her. She believed that her mother was trying to groom her to be the same woman that she was. It infuriated the young woman and drove her to be this free-spirit. For some on the outside, it may have seemed that the young woman was rebelling but Persephone saw it as being “free”.
The young girl spent her free time at her dear half-brother’s, Hermes, bar. While he didn’t fully support her underage drinking he did help supply her. He knew how she felt about her mother and the “lessons” and wanted to help relieve stress any way that he can. The young girl would host parties almost nightly at the bar.
These parties were always very popular, mainly because of the free booze and everyone’s love for Persephone. Steph was a very beautiful young woman, a sight for sore eyes. Men flocked to the young woman trying to take a shot with her. To their dismay, she was highly uninterested in their conquests. She would never admit it to anyone but she did enjoy the attention, she wanted to be loved for more than her looks.
This male attention that she received was not taken well by the other women in the town. They started nasty rumors about Steph. They were saying that she was a floozy, that she slept with anyone who gave her attention, that she was a “revolving door.” She never let those women get to her in public but her pillow knew many tears. She let all of the nasty words roll off her back the best she could but there were times when it was too much to bear.
Demeter’s words about how boys only want “one thing” from women were constantly playing in her head. While some of the men actually had pure intentions with Steph she couldn't believe them. It wasn’t until Hades stepped foot in Herme’s bar she started to question those words.
She saw the tall dark man who lurked in the corner. He was silent, not talking to those around her. She watched from afar, admiring everything about him. There was this mysterious, attractive aura around him that was drawing her to him. She wanted to get to know him but for the first time, she was afraid.
She was afraid that he would reject her, that he would destroy the sunshine inside of her. These fears were new to her. She didn’t fully understand where they came from, why she felt this way. It was unnerving to her, she was used to being so confident, or at least pretending to be.
The more she stared at the mystery man the more her mind wandered. She started to think about what he sounds like, what it would feel like to be in his arms, who is that man? Her mood instantly dropped when he saw a group of women, known for starting all of these rumors about her, making their way to him.
She was instantly drawn to the dark, mysterious man but knew that this group of women was instantly going to ruin any chance she had with him. She turned to the bartender and ordered another drink to drown out the incoming sadness.
Hades could feel someone watching him. He figured that it was because he was new to town and it was the first time he had ever set foot in this bar. Moving to a smaller town he knew that he was going to be a “novelty” for a few. When he finally saw who was watching him he lost his breath for a moment. Sitting at the bartop was a beautiful woman with bouncy, curly hair he wanted nothing more than to run his fingers through.
He had never felt so captivated by a woman before. She was a different breed of woman, she was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He was captivated by the small smile on her face but he was yearning to see that smile in full bloom. Even from a distance, he could see that she was absolute perfection.
All he wanted was to get to know her, get to know everything about her. Just as he was about to go make his way to the beautiful women a group of women blocked his way. He could admit that objectively these women were beautiful but nowhere near as beautiful as the mystery woman.
Persephone downed glass after glass, doing everything she can to try to forget the mystery man. “What’s on your mind sister?” Hermes’ rich voice pulled her to look at the full glass he set in front of her. Instead of answering she just turned to look at the guy, there was just something about him begging her to go to him. “Who is he?” Hermes hadn’t seen the man around before but he was just as intrigued. Whoever this man was he had caught the eye of Steph and that never happens.
With a sad sigh, she pulled her gaze away from him, just missing him gazing back at her. “I don’t know,” she paused taking a swig of the drink in front of her, “but I want to.” This was a surprise to Hermes, his dear sister had never shown a real interest in any male suitors before.
Before either of them could respond a large man took a seat on the stool next to her. Without missing a beat he slung his arm around her shoulders pulling her close to him. “Why would you want that creep when you can have me?” This is why Steph wasn’t interested in the men in this town.
Hades didn’t want to believe in what the women were saying about the beautiful woman. At one point he tuned them out and went back to gazing at the women. Her shoulders were slumped, even from this distance, he could tell she was upset. He was about to go talk to her when some man sat next to her, pulling her in close.
Maybe those nasty rumors that the women mentioned were true? As much as he wanted not to believe the rumors in the lack of response from the woman dampened his mood. The nagging feeling of jealousy arose confusing him, he felt the need to go be with this woman regardless of what he was told.
Just as Hades was about to give up and walk out the door he noticed the woman start to push away. Persephone had tried to deny the man’s advances but he wasn’t taking a hint. She wasn't sure if it was due to the alcohol or that this man was used to getting everything he wanted. “Come on baby, we will have a great time,” she wanted to barf at his words.
She continued to try to wiggle free from his grasp, unsuccessful. Hermes had run to the restroom leaving her alone, more vulnerable to the man’s growing aggression. “I told you I am not interested in you, you big oaf!” Her voice was rising along with her annoyance.
She tried to turn to look for the mystery man as if he could help. When he was nowhere to be found she started to struggle less. Maybe this is what she deserved? “You’re done fighting, good!” The man took her silence as an answer, “Now let’s go!”
He wrapped his large hand around her thin arm, gripping tighter than necessary. Unwillingly she was being dragged towards the door. Her mind was full of questions about how she let herself get here. This is exactly the type of man her mother had warned her about if only she listened.
The tugging suddenly stopped, causing Persephone to raise her head. Her desire to fight off the man came back after she saw it was the mystery man. That desire was squashed when the gripping hand tightened enough to leave a mark.
Hades was entranced in her beauty up close, she was the most beautiful thing in the world. While he wanted to just admire her beauty, the wincing pulled him out of his trance. “Where do you think you are going with her?”
His deep voice vibrated through Persephone igniting feelings she had never experienced. She wanted nothing more than to run into the safety of his arms. “She’s coming home with me tonight,” her arm was yanked, deepening the already forming bruise.   The anger inside of Hades roared seeing how he was hurting this delicate flower in front of him. “I suggest you unhand her,” as if it was even possible his voice dropped even lower, a lingering threat present in his words.
Steph was curious why this stranger was trying to help her. Surely he just feels bad for her, that can be the only logical explanation to her. The man just laughed squeezing her arm to the point it felt like her bone was gonna break.
When Hades heard the small whimper come from the woman he instantly started to roll up his sleeves. The sight of the Hades preparing to fight caused the man to thrust Persephone into Hades' arms, “Damn man she isn’t worth a fight, the girl is used anyway.”
She bit back tears at this statement, the women in this town have done everything they can to destroy her reputation. There is no doubt in her mind that this stranger would ever want to talk to her again. “Are you okay,” Hades tried to keep his voice soft and gentle, the poor girl had just been through so much.
When she answered through sobs and a cradling of her injured arm he instantly pulled her into a hug. She tensed slightly surprised by his kindness, Hades himself was even surprised. Having her in his arms was everything that he could have imagined and more.
“Thank you,” Steph’s voice was small and unstable. The fear of what she just experienced was slowly bleeding away due to the comfort of the mystery man’s arms. For the first time, she left like she found the place that she belonged. “I’m Persephone,” she prompted hoping that he would be willing to talk to her.
Persephone. It was the perfect name for her. He was instantly trapped by this woman, not that he was complaining. “Can I escort you home?” He was hoping that he wasn’t coming off as creepy. Steph pushed herself away from him, he was just like every other guy. It took a second for Hades to fully comprehend what he just said, “Oh my, I didn’t mean it like that!” He started to fumble with his words, not exactly sure what to say to get him out of this mess,” I-I meant it in the way I can walk you home to make sure you get there safely.”
“I don’t want to accompany you inside,” for some odd reason Steph found this upsetting. “Not that you aren’t stunning but I am just trying to be a gentleman-”
As much as she was enjoying watching him fumble over his words she cut him off, “I would very much appreciate it, thank you.” For the first time a smile broke out on his face, she thought he couldn’t be more handsome but she was dead wrong. He held his arm for her to take, she let out a small giggle at his politeness.
The two fell into comfortable conversation, getting to know each other on the walk home. It wasn’t until they reached Steph’s doorstep that she realized something. “Wait,” she pulled the two of them to a stop. Hades started to panic slightly, the puzzled look on her face was making him uneasy. Was she going to say she didn’t want to see him again? “You never told me your name,” she laughed at the large sigh of relief that came from the attractive man.
He took a step away grabbing her hand in the process. Her hand was brought to his lips where his lips lingered. The fluttering in her heart made it feel like she was going to pass out. When he pulled back slightly, opening his closed eyes locking on hers instantly she lost the ability to breathe. “I’m Hades.”

The Dinner pt. 4
It’s finally here friends! I am so sorry for the delay. My life, like everyone’s right now, is just super crazy and I haven’t had time to finish this part. This is probably trash but truthfully I’m happy I actually finished it. This was so tough for me to write, it was just so heartbreaking and I wanted to say so much but it would give away other parts I am working on.
Anyway I really hope you all enjoyed this mess and the whole Dinner “series”
-MaKenzie ♥️
-----------------------------------------------
The entire dining room was confused as to why the young boy took off. They tried yelling after him but it was ignored. Persephone noticed that Hermes looked annoyed with the whole situation and right now was the perfect opportunity to find out what happened. “Hermes?” She waited for the man to set down his wine glass, “What is going on between you and the boy?”
Hermes thought back to the argument that he and Orpheus had in the car on the way here. He remembers the yelling and hurt he could see in the young boy’s eyes. It was hard for Hermes to be angry with the boy, he truly loved the boy and hated yelling at him. He regrets the way he handled the current situation but also knew that what he said needed to be said. “We just had a little argument before we came over here,” he tried to sound as impassive as possible.
Argument? Persephone was having a hard time believing in this. It was very rare that those two ever fought and it was always resolved quickly. This was the first time that either of them has argued this much. It wasn’t like either of them to leave an argument without resolving it. “Argument? About what?” Hades was also curious about what really happened.
Hermes didn’t want to discuss what the argument was about. He knew that Orpheus had been talking to Persephone almost nightly about this decision. Whether he wanted to admit it or not he was upset that the boy turned to Persphone rather than himself. He wasn’t sure why the boy didn’t trust him enough to speak to him about this decision. That was a big part of the argument, Hermes had sat on this anger for a while and it just overflowed. “It was truly nothing,” he was really trying to avoid this conversation, “Just a simple argument about this decision to come home.”
Persephone knew that there was more to this story than Hermes was letting on. While Persephone wanted nothing more than to continue this conversation she also didn’t want to ruin her family dinner. She was already annoyed that the tension between the two boys created an unhappy feeling. All she wanted was a sweet welcome home dinner for her nephew.
Speaking of Orpheus he still hadn’t returned after randomly running out of the room. Hades continued to poke at Hermes, oblivious to the growing annoyance of his wife. The grown men slightly argued about the lack of communication, only igniting Persephone’s annoyance. Abruptly the woman stood up, “I am going to check on the boy. When I get back the arguing is done. Tonight we are celebrating the return of our dear boy not arguing about pointless stuff!”
The men were left stunned at her outburst, their eyes never leaving her as she stormed out of the room. Hades felt ashamed for upsetting his wife. He was completely oblivious to how she was feeling, she was always great at hiding when something was wrong.
The woman searched all around her house, unable to find Orpheus. It wasn’t until she saw that the front door still ajar she found him. When she saw him she felt her own heartbreaking. The young man was collapsed on his knees, his back shook as he freely sobbed. In an instant, she gathered the fragile boy in her arms. He clung to her like a lost child, he was begging for any comfort. He would rather be in the arms of the girl he loves but she doesn’t want him.
Negative thoughts have been darkening the eternal sunshine in his soul. Why would she ever forgive him? He absolutely destroyed her. She used to be so full of life and now..he sees no light in her eyes. All he sees is the hatred that she harbors for him in her eyes. That is going to haunt him for the rest of his life.
Persephone had no clue what was going on with the boy. She had no clue who hurt him this bad. She did know if this had anything to do with Hermes that she would destroy him. She had never seen the young boy so distraught before. Even though she has observed him falling down this path through their recent phone conversations, she never expected to see him like this. It was tough to watch the young man she helped raise broken on the porch.
His hand was reaching out as if he was begging to reach out and touch something, something. Seeing the young man so debilitated at this moment was almost too much for her. She remembers when she herself was this broken, this lost, but she had Hades to help her out. While she knew this his family was going to do everything they can to help him out, she knew not having “a person” would make this even more difficult for him.
It took several minutes for the boy to even be slightly calm. Persephone remained silent, just rubbing soothing circles and cradling the broken boy. She felt hopeless at this moment like she was failing her nephew. When the young man’s breathing finally evened out she thought it was time to address what happened.
Without saying anything she rose to her feet leaving a hand out to help him up. He looked confusingly at the outstretched hand, his aunt’s face holding a look of sorrow. Cautiously he reached out accepting the help. She gathered him into her arms, leading him to the porch swing. The two sat side by side in silence, just enjoying a moment of peace.
Orpheus couldn’t take his eyes off of the end of the drive, where he last saw Eurydice. Persephone noticed this, she believed that he just wanted to leave, to escape. “When you’re ready to talk, I’m here.” She kept her voice soft.
He appreciated her patience with him at this moment. His fragile soul was hanging on by a thread, one move could shatter him forever. “I’m sorry for ruining your dinner Aunt Steph,” this was a true statement. He knew how important family dinners were to her and this probably caused problems. Just another thing that he did wrong…
“Honey,” she paused, placing her hand on his cheek forcing him to look at her. His broken soul shone brightly in the depths of his eyes. Her heart ached even more for the young boy, no one deserved to hurt this much. “Right now dinner doesn’t matter, what matters is what happened to you. You are clearly broken and I can’t help you if you won’t tell me why. I will wait till you are ready to tell me but my heart aches for you son.”
The motherly side of her was demanding that she force him to say what happened right now but she was fighting it back. If she pushed him even in the slightest he would break for good. Orpheus wanted to tell her what happened. He wanted to confide in his Aunt like he had for his entire life. Everything in him was begging him to spill everything, to get all of it off his chest.
It felt like bricks were lying on his chest, it was tough to breathe, his heart was barely beating. He wanted to just run away and never return at this moment. What point does he have in living anymore? His godfather was extremely disappointed in him. His Aunt was going to have a heart attack worrying for him. But none of those things hurt him the most.
What hurts the most was that the one person he ever truly loved ran away from him. He came home for her. She was his future, he was sure of it, or he used to be. Right now he wasn’t sure about anything. All he was sure about is that he messed up big time.
His heart was completely shattered into a million pieces and the one person who could fix it wanted nothing to do with him.

The Dinner pt. 3
Hello friends! The Dinner series is almost over, only one more part after this! Part 4 coming on Friday! I hope everyone enjoys
-MaKenzie ♥️
---------------------------------
This weird feeling in Orpheus’ stomach refused to fade, truthfully with each second, it was growing. Maybe he was just feeling off after his argument with Hermes last night? His gut was telling him that was not the reason, but that something big was about to happen. The young man pushed down this feeling as best as he could so he could have a pleasant dinner.
Hades and Persephone’s dinner spread was spectacular. Orpheus desperately missed these family dinners while he was away at school. A small silence fell upon the family as they dined upon the feast. Persephone felt the tense energy radiation between the young boy and Hermes. She wasn’t fully sure what was going on and she really didn’t want to dig into it at the moment. Right now she just wanted to have a pleasant night with her family. “Orpheus,” he turned his gaze to his aunt, “how is dinner?”
She already had a strong feeling on an answer, the entire table had been so focused on eating that no words were exchanged. “Oh, Aunt Steph it’s wonderful! I haven’t had a meal this good in a long time!” This brought a smile to her face. She could see the happiness in his eyes but she could see that his smile wasn’t genuine. That would be something she would address later with him, get down to the bottom of what’s going on.
“Persephone it is absolutely lovely. As always you and Hades sure know how to cook a mean dinner.” Hermes' voice wasn’t as light as it normally is. Whatever happened between Orpheus and Hermes was affecting them both deeply.
Persephone shot her husband a pleading look as if to urge him to break the tense silence.“So boy, what is the plan now that you are home? Are you looking to work? Are you going to be going back to school later?”
Simultaneously, Hermes and Orpheus tensed up. “I am going to be working at the bar. Hermes is going to teach me to bartend and I will keep up with the bussing duties I used to have. As for school, I am going to be taking some classes online, but getting a degree isn’t my top priority at the moment.” His voice started to trail off a bit at the end. This was a very sore subject at the moment, well it has been since he decided to come home.
Hermes didn’t even attempt to hide his disdain for this decision. Orpheus knew that coming home wasn’t going to be looked upon highly by his family but he had to do what he thought was right. He was shocked to see the lack of understanding by the man who raised him. There was no logical reason Hermes saw for the boy to give up schooling for a girl he believed was going nowhere. While he did like the girl and thought she was a kind girl he worried that she was going to hold him back.
The tension in the air was so thick it was making everyone so uncomfortable. “That’s quite a big decision to make. You’re sure this is what is going to make you happy?” Persephone was worried about the boy for sure. She knew just how hard it was for him to make this decision. They spent many nights on the phone talking through every detail. He hasn’t been so passionate about anything than he was for that girl. The way that he spoke of her made it clear that she was his forever.
Orpheus was thankful for her easy questions, they made him relax. “I know this is the right decision for me. I have to make things right.” A small smile grew on his face as he thought about finding Eurydice and making things right. He can’t wait to see her smile, hear her laugh, and most importantly hold her again.
He could feel that someone was watching him, he tried to push it away thinking it was just his family members. The weird feeling in his stomach suddenly erupted violently causing him to stiffen. Something was beckoning him to turn his head to the window just across from his seat. Slowly he turned his head away from his Aunt, the feeling in his stomach increasing.
All of the wind was knocked out of Orpheus the moment they locked eyes. Eurydice was just outside the window...she was right there. The girl looked terrified, making his heart hurt. He pushed himself out of the chair ignoring the calls from his family.
She slowly began backing away, shaking her head. It was impossible he was home she thought. She was hoping that her shaken appearance would keep him there. The moment that she saw him take a step away from the chair she took off.
He saw her take off causing him to quicken his pace to catch her. Why was she running he wasn’t sure, maybe she was running to the door to meet him? His heart picked up at the thought of her running to him but her frightened appearance gave him big doubts.
Eurydice ran as fast as she can to try to get out of there. She knew that with his long legs it wouldn’t take long for him to catch up to her. Her lungs were screaming for more air but she continued to push, her fear of facing him pushing her past the pain. The sound of the door opening caused her to quicken her pace even more, to a pace she didn’t even know she could reach.
Orpheus could feel his heart shatter as he watched her run further and further away from him. He screamed her name once, hoping to bring a halt to her steps. He was surprised to see her slow at the end of the long drive.
Her body forced her to stop when she heard the desperation in his voice. Slowly she turned to face him regardless of her mind screaming at her to run. Her walls almost came crashing down when she saw the desperation on his face. She turned her thoughts to all of the anger and pain that he has caused her over the past year.
The hope that bloomed in the young poet was crushed when he saw the hardening of the girl’s expression. He watched all of the life drain out of her eyes - the same eyes that used to be so full of life and love. It was the first time he got a real look at what he had done to someone he loved so dearly. He wanted nothing more than to go beg for forgiveness, beg for any semblance that he can fix this.
Eurydice felt no sympathy for the boy at the moment. She knew that none of this would have happened if he wouldn’t have lied to her. No matter what her heart was trying to tell her she was able to shut it down. She ignored the pleading look in his eyes, instead, she just turned her back and took off down the street. “I need a drink,” she whispered to herself.
The young man fell to his knees, tears blurring his vision. He has destroyed the one person he ever fully loved.

-------------------------
Eurydice couldn’t be more thankful for the doorbell. Hades excused himself to go answer the door, leaving the girls alone. For some reason, the around Eurydice felt like it was getting thicker. She felt like she was struggling to breathe. Persephone could see the rising panic in the girl’s eyes. “Please don’t feel obligated to stay for dinner. You helped us out so much today, I wanted to extend the offer to you.”
This lessened the panic greatly, she felt like she could breathe again. Her head did hurt a bit after the minor panic attack. She could hear voices getting closer to where they were. The panic ignited in her again when she started to recognize the voices. She was able to distinguish three different male voices slowly getting closer, Hades, Hermes, and him.
There is no way she is anywhere near ready to see him again, not yet. It’s not possible that he’s back anyway...right? He wasn’t supposed to be back for another three years. It’s impossible that he left early. Why would he do that? As those voices got closer, she could only hear his voice out of the three. “I am actually not feeling so well. Do you mind if I use the restroom before heading out?”
Persephone could see the panic in the girl’s eyes which confused her. She wasn’t sure what had gotten into her but she agreed and showed her to the bathroom. Eurydice slipped inside, locking the door behind her. Her knuckles turned white from how tightly she gripped onto the sink. She felt like she could pass out.
Persephone returned to the dining room to join the others. The three men stood in the entryway of the dining room chatting and laughing. She felt blessed to have part of her family returned but she felt a nagging worry in the back of her mind at the panic state of Eurydice. She wasn’t sure why the girl was so afraid but she knew it was not her place to push, even though she desperately wanted to. “Aunt Persephone, it’s good to see you!” the young man ran towards his aunt, enveloping her in an embrace.
The warm embrace of her nephew calmed the nerves that had previously plagued her mind. “My Orpheus, oh how I have missed you!” She pulled back getting a good look at the boy in her arms. He hadn’t changed much, some dark circles under his eyes but other than that he looked the same. “I was quite surprised when I was informed you were coming back,” she kept a teasing tone in her voice.
She knows most of the story as to why he is back but she was still surprised to hear he was coming home. Orpheus had spent many nights calling his aunt for advice. “Come, everyone, let’s eat!” Persephone guided everyone over to the table. After everyone was settled at the table Hades turned towards his wife. “Where is the girl?”
At the mention of a girl for whatever reason the young man’s stomach filled with butterflies. All-day he had been feeling kind of off, almost like he was anticipating something to happen. “Girl?” He tried to keep the conversation casual as to not sound too excited.
Persephone was confused by the hopeful tone hidden in the boy’s voice. “An employee of Hades. She helped us set things up tonight,” she paused looking around the beautifully decorated dining room. “She had to leave though, she wasn’t feeling very well.” That nagging feeling that something wasn’t right hit her again but she pushed it away to focus on her family.
Eurydice quietly opened the door to the bathroom, not wanting to cause any attention. She could hear the chatter from the dining room. Her heart was begging her to try to sneak a peek at him but she was too afraid of being caught. She could hear the laughter inviting her into the room but she refused.
Slowly she inched herself closer to the front door. Her feet stopped at the fork in the hallway, one step to the right and she would be just outside the dining room. Her subconscious was begging her to take that step but her heart and mind were telling her to leave. One little glance at him could break down the walls she has built up and she can’t allow that to happen.
If she lets her walls fall she will crumble into the darkness and never escape. Maybe that is what is best for her though? No, she can’t think like that now. Right now she needs to focus on getting out of this house unnoticed then she can go from there. The sound of a chair scraping on the floor caused her to finally move her feet. She hurried towards the front door, begging for an escape.
Her hand hovered over the doorknob, unable to grip it though. Her body was fighting to stay, fighting to go see him and demand answers. Her mind was screaming at her to leave though, to stay protected by avoiding any more pain. A splitting headache was coming on very hard making it even more difficult to fight off her body’s desire to go face him.
After a few moments, and some very deep breaths, she was able to clear her mind and push herself outside. With every step she takes she could feel her heartbreaking even more. This time she was the one walking away from him. Does he even care about her anymore? Wouldn’t he come looking for her if he did? Maybe he just doesn’t have time yet? Or he just forgot about her…
Eurydice’s head was spinning with all of these questions. It was impossible to focus on anything other than her racing thoughts. The world around her blurred, she came crashing to her knees. She was so lost in her swirling mind she couldn’t control the tears falling from her eyes. The dam that she had built up to stop the tears was bursting.
She had completely lost control of her body at this point. Her feet started to drag her around the side of the house, careful not to destroy any of Persephone’s hard work. The light from the dining room beckoning her like a light at the end of the tunnel. She remained hidden in the shadows as she made her way closer and closer to the window.
When she spotted him she thought that her legs were going to give out. There he was sitting in the dining room that just hours before she decorated. Her mind was screaming at her to remain hidden in the shadows but her body moved without control closer towards the window.
She just had to have a better look at him. She needed to know if this was actually him. When he flashed she knew it was him without a doubt. She used to do whatever she could to make him smile, it used to be one of her favorite things to look at. His smile didn’t fully reach his eyes though, it wasn’t fully genuine. Even though she was angry at him she couldn’t help but want to go in there and make him really smile.
Something inside of her started to nag at her to run, begging her to leave but she couldn’t move. Having him in her gaze again kept her feet glued to the ground. The air around her felt like it was thinning, breathing became a struggle.
She watched the poet suddenly stiffen, his head turning towards where she was. As she continued to panic, her feet remained glued. She lost all ability to breathe the moment she met his gaze.
Orpheus is home.
