very touching, i think, that blizzard is finally acknowledging (granted, in the barest barely scraping the top of the iceberg way possible) how much culture the orcs actually lost in the move from Draenor to Azeroth. but i do think the genuineness of all that is lost when Aggra is the one giving the bulk of the speech and not Thrall.
not that i necessarily want to discredit her. i appreciate the included detail of her becoming Farseer because as much as i dislike her ive always felt her greatest flaw was that she HAD no character outside of Thrall. I appreciate the ... attempt? at personal growth made on her behalf in that she is so open to the idea of new traditions (except she still calls him Go'el so idk what to make of that LOL)
but Thrall has been the head of the orc's cultural rebirth for almost his entire adult life. This is something that he should have spoken at the forefront of. His entire existence has been overshadowed by the culture that both he and his entire generation were robbed of. Regardless of whether or not Aggra deserved the opportunity (frankly I would argue that she doesn't based on the way she treated Thrall) it just. should have been him.
Aggra has been Thrall's mouthpiece basically since Cata. she is ALWAYS speaking for him. I kind of hoped this would be a rare exception.

think something i have not talked abt before is the sheer amount of failure thrall feels purely on account of the fact that he has had so. SO. much guidance in his life and things have still kinda ended up the way they ended up
because really thrall is less of a prodigy or a prophetical hero and more of a. culmination of love and lessons. particularly in regard to the orcs as a people i think like he is all of the knowledge and wisdom that all of the previous generation could have passed onto him as he was symbolically the greatest hope his people had seen for rebirth in years. since he had the ability to pass all that on to his generation. he's a little bit of his grandmother, a little bit of grom, a little bit of orgrim, even a little bit of the parents he never knew.
and then that's compounded with the outside influences like taretha, jaina, cairne, vol'jin, arthas even. thrall is a product of all the love he's ever been given. he is a collection of fragments of all the people who have ever loved him. and that is a terrible thing to tarnish, isn't it?

𝟐𝟎𝟎 𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐔𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐒    ↪    @throned  asked  :    ❛ can i ask… what happened? ❜ vol'jin to thrall, ofc!
Tumblr media
It seems simple enough. What happened ?? his companion asks, as if he is recounting a past day's absence. As if he had not DIED a slow, painful death on the Warchief's throne and left the world asunder with his parting, one that Thrall himself had never forgiven himself for not witnessing personally.
Thrall simply shakes his head, eyes full of unreadable emotion and yet staring nowhere in particular. What happened ??
" ... Where to even begin, my friend ?? " He nearly whispers in response, voice fond in its tone but exhausted all at once. " Everything and nothing, simultaneously. We repelled the Legion only for the Alliance and Horde to take their arms up against each other once more, and for Sylvanas to do this. To— to desecrate even DEATH as we all know it. "
Shaman pauses, fingers flexing at his side. How quintessentially alone he has felt through it all, and if he were more selfish, perhaps he would admit it now. But that is simply not his way; even in his loneliness, he is condemned to silence by no one but himself. A chorus of I miss you and I'm sorry rides the wave of his tongue and CRASHES unceremoniously against the back of his teeth.
" I ... was not present for much of it, firsthand, " he instead admits softly, " for reasons I would not burden you with. But I am here now. And I suppose my efforts to stop her must count for something. "
The silence that lingers in the air around him is heavier than the albatross around his neck.
