Kataang Smut Week!!

Hello Kataangers! The Dungeon has been thinking about doing something that’s – shockingly, tragically – never been done before: Hosting a Kataang Smut Week!

We want to encourage more smut of all kinds for the sweeties, whether that be fluffy, angsty, spiritual, or just plain horny, from all over, as it is our mission 😤 We’re thinking of holding the event during the week of November 15th, 2021. We want people to be able to focus on Kataang Week right now, and November would give us plenty of time afterwards to talk about prompts and further promote this next event.  

So at this time, we’d like to gauge interest! Please, if you’d like for the smut week to happen, show your support and spread the word! And if you have any suggestions, questions, or comments, come talk to us. Our inbox is always open <3

“Dad?” 

Bumi hangs out over the side of the saddle, and taps Dad on the shoulder. He knows he looks tired, hair sticking up even more than it usually does, and there’s probably a bright red line across one cheek where he must have slept weird on one of the packs. He can only tell because it’d felt funny and bumpy when he’d gone to rub the sleep out of his eyes after waking up.

And also because Mom hadn’t quite been able to hide her snicker, but he’s going to ignore that. He’d woken up with a purpose after all. “Yeah, Bumi? What are you doing awake?” Bumi flaps a hand at Dad, annoyed. He doesn’t sleep that much, even on the boring parts of flights, when they’re flying over the open ocean.

“I’ve got a question.” “Come on up here then, and I’ll see if I can answer it for you.” Bumi scrambles forwards eagerly, but just as he’s about to swing his legs over the side of Appa’s saddle to join Dad, Mom catches the back of his shirt.

Bumi doesn’t pout, because pouting is for babies like Kya, but he does groan in disappointment. He’s never been allowed to sit up on Appa’s head with Dad before.

“Aang.” Mom warns.

Ok, so this is a very underrated Kataang moment for me.

Remember when Aang was hiding the map of Hakoda to Bato because he was afraid that Katara and Sokka will leave him since they were his only friends, his only family.

We can all agree that the real Katara would have been mad at Aang just like how Sokka reacted because they trusted him? But Katara wasn't, instead she was sad because she had to leave him and they had to take different paths.

Look at the sad expression on her face, she didn't want to leave Aang of course.

Later on, she was so happy to see Aang again.

Not to forget that the episode ended up with a happy *first* kataang kiss.

Her feelings for him was too obvious and it can't be missed.

[this post has been sitting in my drafts and i finally decided to post it]

I hate when people say Katara only chose Aang after he defeated Ozai, like she was some prize. She loved him from the beginning, and although it was subtle at first, it grew into the purest form of love. In contrast, we know that Aang had a crush on Katara from the moment he saw her. But early on, that crush transformed into love, which he cherished more than I, myself, will ever know.

I don’t talk about the EIP kiss much, but it’s something I think about a lot. We all know -or, should know- that Katara said she was “confused” because of the timing, not because she doubted her feelings for Aang. I love kataang with all that I am; but I do have to say that I agree with katara’s decision to wait until after war to act on their feelings for one another. Aang, as well as katara, needed to focus on defeating Ozai and winning the war, without the weight of a new relationship or having to worry about the other person. Plus, who was to say for sure that they would both come back from their perspective battles... alive?

Now, about that kiss...

I know everyone views it differently, and there are even some that go as far as calling Aang some not-so-nice things because of it. But in my eyes, as a 21 year old woman, he was just as confused as Katara. Aang knew, from the invasion kiss and other prior moments, that Katara felt something for him. So, he thought kissing her like he had done previously might help her in being less confused. Because let’s all remember, she did in fact kiss him back on the submarine.

(And, he’s still just a 12-13 year old boy; don’t forget that)

Now, I’m not saying that what Aang did in EIP (kissing Katara after she said she was confused) was right, but I do think it was justified. At least based on what had worked for Aang previously. I think the fandom as a whole needs to give him a bit of a break, too, considering he did regret it immediately afterword. And, on top of that, he learned from his mistake. After that terrible play and what happened with Katara, Aang didn’t push her any further on the matter of their official relationship, or lack there of. He let her come to her decision on her own, and was aware of how she needed to think things over.

In all honesty, I’ve been in Aang’s position, multiple times. My situation was quite different, but I know how he was feeling. My ex and I dated for three years, and although it wasn’t healthy in any way, I was attached, and so sure that I was in love. Long story short, he broke things off and I was heartbroken, to the point of putting myself through more pain by trying to keep him around. I tried to push myself on him, like Aang did, and it ended up blowing up in my face. He returned the feelings, (at least i thought he did), about 6 months later, and we tried to be more than friends without the label/commitment. That lasted about 3 months and ended in me telling him off and eventually getting over it. But my point is, I know how Aang was feeling, which is why I can’t necessarily give him as much grief as some people do.

In the end, it was Katara who officially started their relationship, initiating the kiss in the final scene of the show. And, if you were to put it on a timeline, Sokka’s leg in the final scene is no longer broken. Which means -and I’m just guessing here- that the gaang’s gathering in the Jasmine Dragon was weeks after Zuko’s coronation. So, it’s not like Aang and Katara got together immediately following the war.

Now, back to the EIP kiss, and the events that it leads and relates to:

Yes, Aang kissed Katara without consent. But, he learned from his mistake, and we see him ask for consent in the North and South comic.

Plus, let’s not forget that other characters have non consensual kisses, also.

Now, I know these aren’t the exact same scenario, but they happened, nonetheless.

What I’m trying to say is:

Yes, Aang did something that he probably shouldn’t have. But, to say that Katara didn’t feel the same way or that she was a prize for him just doesn’t make sense.

hey my name is ron and have a question what your favorite kataang moment in the comics ?

Hi Ron :) Nearly every Kataang moment in the comics is a favourite of mine. They are just constantly loving, caring and supportive of each other throughout. Here are a few that come to mind:

-Them looking at each other smiling and being flustered when Ursa brings up marriage.

-Their little kiss in the background during the fire nation play.

-Their reunion in ‘North and South’ after being away from each other for a while.

-Whenever there were fights, they worked so well together and were protecting each other.

-Katara thinking back to when she first met Aang and when they went penguin sledding.

-Yeah so literally anytime they hug, kiss or just stand next to each other lmao.

But here are two moments that stand out to me a lot:

I thought this was just so sad but so sweet. Katara see’s her future with him- happily married together, while she holds their child. And there’s no doubt that Aang doesn’t see his future with her. And the sad bit is knowing that they both love each other so much and see a future together- they are both willing to have to sacrifice their relationship for the state of the world.

Another is this here, after Aang asks would she be ok if they stayed in Cranefish town a little longer, she agrees and says she thinks the city needs him. But he lets her know that she’s needed by the town too, not just him. Because he knows she has amazing capabilities and how she can make a change/difference to the city.
