i debated for a wee while about whether or not to post this, but i always got engagement and support on this blog which i appreciate more than i can put into words!

life kept finding ways of getting in the way. before i knew it, months would pass. in short, every time i thought about trying to come back to this blog, it almost felt like a burden because of how long the intervals in activity had been. i also felt like it wasn't fair to drop in, be active for a day or two, and then disappear again.

plus, i always felt an obligation to keep it as focused on fire emblem, solely, as i could. but i want space to explore more interests, too!

i have made a new blog, which i did alongside my twitter moots, where i will still be writing and editing, as well as occasionally posting about my rl arts and crafts and other stuff in general. you can find that new blog here.

if anyone would like to follow me on there, i would more than welcome it. it'd be wonderful to see some familiar faces! but of course, there is no obligation.

genuinely i don't think a day goes by that i don't think about this scenario in my head lol. edelgard 100% is always overworking herself and byleth is always concerned and trying to get her to take breaks. <3

also, yes! i just finished scarlet blaze today. though the more i play it, the more I just want to play three houses again so probably just gonna speed-run all the other routes now on NG+ and then go back to three houses (crimson flower again, obviously 😅).

"Edelgard."

The white-haired woman stumbled mid-attack, startled by the sudden call of her name. Lowering the wooden axe, she turned to find Byleth standing at the opposite end of the training grounds.

"P– Professor," she stammered between heavy breaths; undoubtedly from exhaustion, primarily, however it was clear she had also been startled. "How…long have you been standing there…?"

"Long enough," Byleth said, calmly, as she began to walk across the training grounds towards Edelgard. "It's getting late, you know. You've been here a while. I thought we'd all agreed to take a break from training today?"

A hint of guilt flashed across Edelgard's features. "I know, we did, but…well, between everything else, I don't have as much time to train, and I need to keep getting better. The closer we get to the end of this war, the tougher it's going to get, and–"

Edelgard was silenced by the sudden grasp on her shoulders – firm, but not forceful. She met Byleth's gaze, the taller woman unwavering, and her tone as firm as her grip.

"You're overworking yourself… Please take a break." She gently squeezed the woman's shoulders. "You'll only end up worse if you push yourself too hard. This is exactly why we all agreed to take a day's rest."

A sigh fell from Edelgard's lips, and she lowered her gaze. A part of her was resigned only because she had been caught, she would admit as much; and yet the guilt which had momentarily been visible on her features shortly before was very much still in her heart, at the notion she'd broken a promise she and the rest of the Black Eagles had made.

"I'm not angry," Byleth said softly, the silence leading her to doubt what was going through Edelgard's mind. "Nobody else is, either. We're just worried about you."

Edelgard shook her head, and looked up with a smile. "I never thought you were angry, I just… I'm sorry. I know we all agreed not to train today."

Byleth reached down with her left hand to take the training axe from Edelgard's grasp, and the shorter woman didn't resist. 

"Come on," Byleth said, keeping her right hand on Edelgard's shoulder, "how about we get something to eat in the dining hall? Or, if you're not that hungry, at least join me for tea and some sweet treats."

There's so many good prompts! But I'll suggest 79 or 80 for Edeleth. With 80 in particular, I almost imagine Edelgard asking the question to Byleth. But it's completely up to you!

okay both of these made me go 🥺 so obvs i had to write them both.

(for anyone reading this out of context, 79 = "I never imagined that someone's heartbeat could sound so amazing." and 80 = "What was your childhood like?")

although this is my first time writing these characters (or anything in general tbh) in a while so...be gentle. 😅😭

Wrapped in Byleth's arms, head resting against the woman's chest, listening to her heartbeat – Edelgard could've stayed there forever. The two had found a quiet moment in which to simply be together, and the Emperor already felt sorrow for when the moment might end.

"I never imagined that someone's heartbeat could sound so amazing." The words slipped from Edelgard's lips almost without her noticing.

"Well," Byleth said, voice soft, pulling the smaller woman a little closer against her, "it only beats because of you."

Edelgard felt the grin tug at her lips and the flush burn her cheeks. It wasn't the first time Byleth had claimed similar; though with each time, Edelgard became less and less certain of whether it was in dedicated jest, or if there was some strange truth behind the words.

They spent some time in silence, then, simply content in each other's presence. That was, until Edelgard again broke the silence.

"What was your childhood like?"

Byleth shifted ever so slightly; tilting her head to look at Edelgard. "Where did that come from?"

"I don't–" Edelgard looked up in search of some reassurance that her question hadn't offended. It was a silly worry, of course, and she quickly found desired reassurance in Byleth's gaze; her words had, evidently, simply caught the woman by surprise.  "I don't know," she admitted, resting her head back down. "I've been wanting to ask you for…well, years, really, but an appropriate time never presented itself. Then, as more time passed, it became even more difficult to broach the subject. The thought just occurred to me again."

"Well…" Byleth began, then paused – resting her head back whilst taking a moment to gather her thoughts. "I don't remember much, really. It was always just me and my father. We moved around a lot, which I quite liked, in all honesty. From the moment I could hold a sword, Jeralt began teaching me how to fight, and over the years that just…led to me fighting alongside the rest of his mercenaries. Maybe not a typical childhood, now I can look back on it, but it all felt so simple, and it was nice." 

Byleth had wondered 'what if' Jeralt had told her more from a young age: about her mother; the circumstances of her birth; his time as a Knight of Seiros; even the simple existence of the Church or of Garreg Mach.

Her gaze landed on Edelgard again, and a smile crossed her lips at the sight of the smaller woman within her embrace. "I wouldn't have changed any of it. After all, it led me to where I am now."

so i didn't finish the prompts this weekend. and i say 'finish' because i actually did write some stuff...just not a whole prompt. ☠️

been playing through three hopes more though and i am thriving on what little edeleth crumbs i can get from it. it's also fun getting back to writing again.

i really needed to see this today

i used to write like every day but the past couple of years have ruined me and i am TRYING MY BEST to get back but it's tough

It doesn't matter if you're a slow writer or a fast writer. If you're writing 1000 words every day or 100 words in a month. If you're amazing at starting new wips, but never really finish one. Even if all the beautiful stories are just in your head for now. You're still a writer.

y'all i knew that high five moment in the three hopes demo rang a bell i wrote this agesss ago. 🤣

i adore edelgard not knowing what a high five is.

Hi! would the pairing of Edelgard and Hilda work out? if so, number 1: High Fives?

“Why would the Professor pair us together?” Hilda complained loudly while swinging her wooden training axe around aimlessly.

Edelgard sighed lightly. “It’s all part of testing us, seeing how we work together with people we wouldn’t normally work with.” The House Leader stole a glance at Hilda; it wasn’t as though she wouldn’t like to work with Hilda more, alas the girl refused to move from the Golden Deer -- and Edelgard knew the Professor had opened the offer.

Lilac eyes turned then in the direction of the other pairs the Professor had put together: Claude and Sylvain, and Dimitri and Petra. For the life of her, Edelgard couldn’t guess the logic behind the Professor’s choice in pairings. Off to the side stood Manuela and Hanneman – there to observe their own students, though the whole exercise had ultimately been Professor Eisner’s idea.

“Alright,” Byleth called out, as she strode into the middle of the three duos, “this is all about teamwork. You’ve all been deliberately paired with someone you wouldn’t normally fight together with. So fight together. Support each other.” The Professor looked between each of the pairs. “We’re not just looking for you to win. We’re looking for you to win together.” With that, Byleth stepped away to the sidelines again — not too far from Manuela and Hanneman — and waved her hand. “Begin!”

And so they began — slowly at first, the pairs circling each other, gripping their training weapons readily. Byleth watched with the other professors: observing every move, every decision, every interaction. In truth, she had no idea how the pairings she’d decided on would work together — if they would at all — though she was finding herself pleasantly surprised.

Claude and Sylvain tapped out first. Dimitri seemed far more determined than Petra to be the last one standing — fighting as though his life depended on the mock fight, and his ruthlessness seemingly bothering even Petra as she fought by his side.

Yet Edelgard and Hilda seemed to take the challenge in their stride. Byleth had debated on that pairing a lot, though watching the two axe-wielders only made her more saddened that Hilda was adamant on not joining the Black Eagles.

Eventually, the two duos were driving each other to exhaustion. Just as Byleth moved to step between them, before any of them lost the ability to remain standing, Dimitri dropped to his knees beside a crouching Petra.

“That’s it,” Byleth declared, walking to stand between the pairs. First, she looked to Dimitri and Petra, a proud smile on her lips. “You both fought well. Though, I do fear you lost the element of teamwork towards the end...”

Then, the Professor turned to Edelgard and Hilda, the pride in her smile growing. “Though the outcome is decisive! You both certainly fought hard to deserve coming out on top.” Byleth glanced to Hilda, raising a brow. “You’re sure you wouldn’t consider joining the Black Eagles?”

The jesting question went ignored as Hilda suddenly seemed struck with a renewed burst of energy — jumping on the spot and swinging her wooden axe with glee. “Alright!”

Byleth took a step back as Hilda leapt around in celebration — offering one last smile to Edelgard before walking back towards Manuela and Hanneman, who were applauding the outcome.

“We did it!” Hilda screamed as she tossed her training weapon aside and jumped in front of Edelgard, whose lilac eyes widened at the suddenness and loudness of the motion. “We were amazing!”

The House Leader suddenly flinched back as the pink-haired girl raised a hand and practically threw it towards Edelgard’s face. A moment passed, and suddenly all the joy of their win vanished from Hilda’s features as she looked at the House Leader’s blank look.

“Oh, come on.” She shook her hand slightly, like a wave — which drew Edelgard’s gaze, but still there was no action. “You’re kidding me!”

“I don’t—” Edelgard stuttered, looking rather apologetically at Hilda as she did so.

Hilda could only sigh. “Lift your hand, like mine.”

Edelgard did so, mimicking the girl’s pose with her hand; barely had she lifted her arm when Hilda threw her hand forward, slapping her open palm against Edelgard’s — the glee returned to her features.

“Hey!” Edelgard yelled, pulling her hand back. “What was that?”

“A high five!” Hilda said, slowly, as though talking to a child. “You’ve seriously never done that before?”

The House Leader could only shake her head.

“No way.” It was Hilda’s turn to shake her head, before holding her hand up once more. “Come on, try it! You haven’t lived until you’ve done a high five.”

“That may be an exaggeration, but…” Edelgard frowned, before shoving her hand forward until her palm met Hilda’s; though with nowhere near the same force and enthusiasm as Hilda had done.

The girl made a small scrutinous ‘hmm’. “Needs some work,” she declared, but then smiled. “But we can definitely improve on it. I suppose working with you wasn’t so bad after all.”
