You guys I just realized that what I’ve always wanted out of werewolf fiction is a story where lycanthropy isn’t a purely human condition

Like this dude wakes up from his wolfbender and his room is full of all these fucking chickens from local farms that he initiated into his pack. They all start clucking and crowing at the moon and when it’s full they all transform into these tiny little weird bipedal wolves with wings.

For anyone who hasn't seen them before, Hidden Search Operators are handy tricks you can use when you're either searching or filtering AO3.

summary: string is a generic way of explaining that you can search AO3 for a specific word that appears in a summary. You can do this from the search bar in the header, from the Any Field box at the top of the Advanced Search form, or from the Search Within Results box at the bottom of the filter menu.

Examples:

summary: Bruce

summary: "Bruce Banner"

summary: Bruce OR summary: Banner OR summary: Hulk

You need to put quotation marks around your search term if it is more than one word. The quotes make sure that the site searches for those two words together.

The other two operators listed work best in the Search Within Results box.

expected_number_of_chapters: 1 will return results where every fic has only 1 chapter currently posted.

You can use expected_number_of_chapters: -1 if you want results where every fic has more than 1 chapter currently posted.

otp:true will return results where there is only 1 relationship tag on the fic. If you want results where there are 2+ relationship tags (and no fics with only 1 relationship tag) then you can use otp:false

Quick PSA, if you get one of those "Work scanned, AI use detected" comments on AO3, just mark them as spam.

Some moron apparently built a bot to annoy or prank hundreds of authors.

There is no scanning process, your work doesn't actually resemble AI writing, it's all bullshit. Mark the comment as spam (on AO3, not the email notification you got about the comment!) and don't let it get to you.

Honestly? My main piece of advice for writing well-rounded characters is to make them a little bit lame. No real living person is 100% cool and suave 100% of the time. Everyone's a little awkward sometimes, or gets too excited about something goofy, or has a silly fear, or laughs about stupid things. Being a bit of a loser is an incurable part of the human condition. Utilize that in your writing.

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

I have a mental image of Principal Weems, alive and well (perhaps as a result of the aforementioned spell), and also somehow remembering the world before said spell went off, realizing exactly who is the First Lady, and just noping the fuck out. She grabs some essential supplies (a whole lot of booze), makes her way to the nuclear bunker built beneath the Nightshades library, and gives explicit instructions to not disturb her for the next four years.

And what happens after four years?

She pops her head up just long enough to find out if Enid has won reelection (bringing Wednesday with her). If she has, that's another four years hiding.

Enid becomes President mysteriously. Pt. 2

The Secret Service and the White Staff adore Enid's hugs.

she insists in giving every single staff member a hug before they go home, with Wednesday watching each hug with a scowl and vague threats of death if they hurt Enid.

So my original idea was that Enid becomes President because of a spell gone wrong, poor girl has no idea what she's doing but every decision she makes for the country either goes well or is neither good or bad. Wednesday is the First Lady despite the fact they're not together yet but because of the altered reality Wednesday and Enid are married Lmao

I read this, enjoyed it quite a bit (Enid actually liking horror movies is a nice change of pace compared to nearly every fic that currently exists), and now I'm thinking that horror movies about werewolves is the one case where both Wednesday and Enid would happily critique, complain about, or outright hate on with the same fervor and for nearly identical reasons.

“Enid Sinclair hates horror movies”

Enid honestly really likes horror movies, she’s not a mega fan like Yoko or Ajax, but she has seen and enjoyed her fair share. Her favorite that she’s ever seen is Midsommer, she perfected the Florence Pugh frown in middle school and even went as her character for halloween one year. She made the flower headdress thing from scratch and 20$ at the dollar tree for fake flowers.

When she and Wednesday first started dating they watched Hereditary together, it freaked Enid out and she absolutely LOVED it. She posted a video essay about the symbolism and foreshadowing on youtube and it got a lot of hits.

Wednesday on the other hand, not the biggest fan of horror movies. She has a few she enjoys, mostly the ones based on true stories or that have messed up lore from behind the scenes of filming. She nitpicks all of the things that they get wrong, the femoral artery would bleed more than that, nobody human could survive being stabbed that many times, no Enid the babadook is not an actual category of outcast or monster.

Watching and critiquing a horror movie is honestly sometimes the most Wednesday will talk or complain about something, therefore Enid keeps showing her horror movies. She loves listening to her speak, even if it is during a movie.
