I decided to start reading Elantris, which means I get to start a new game of “How in the hell is this name pronounced?!!!??”

This, just this, is the best of Elantris.
“I want to know what happened,” Omin began speculatively. “What happened, Hrathen? What happened to your faith?”
“My faith?” Hrathen asked with shock.
“Yes,” Omin said, his words soft, almost meandering. “You must have believed at one point, otherwise you wouldn’t have pursued the priesthood long enough to become a gyorn. But you lost it somewhere. I have listened to your sermons. I hear logic and complete understanding—not to mention determination. I just don’t hear any faith, and I wonder what happened to it.”
This scene.
This was not my first Sanderson book. Nor is it my favorite. However, it might be the scene that made me a believer in his work. Such a simple yet powerful scene.

why do you like hrathen so much?
ok is it super shitty to say his vibes. this is awful but its been so long since i read elantris i genuinely don't remember the exact moment i was like Oh That Ones My Fave
BUT objectively he's just like.....fun? he's fun. id read like five hundred more pages of him and sarene microaggressing each other (in a mlm/wlw hostility kinda way, we reject this 40 yr old thinking he was maybe in love with her right before dying. clown) i love political intrigue and characters being forced to question their beliefs and now that im thinking about it, it was DEFINITELY him and sarene trying to verbally kick the others ass that made me go ok this guy slaps

I really loved Elantris, so have some art of Sarene~
I had a lot of fun with this one- it feels like forever since I’ve done one of these more “painting” style pieces…. huh- now that I think about it, all of the one’s I’ve done so far in this style have all been from some Cosmere novel or another… wild
Anyway, I wanna do some Mistborn stuff next! Also I want to try doing more guys in this style- I’m just low-key afraid I can’t pull it off since I’ve only just kind of gotten used to drawing guys in my normal cartoony style? Dudes are weird.
Character is Sarene from Brandon Sanderson’s novel, Elantris (Which you should go read the character dynamics are AWESOME)
Also as a little thing, the symbols in the back are the Aon for “Teo” because the background was boring and it fit so :’D not that i know how to do backgrounds anyway
As per usual,
Please do NOT re-post without my permission! (Reblogs are okay!) :D

Here Raoden from Elantris, requested by @m3h-1966
I wanted to draw Elantrians since I read the book, but for some reason I never did, so this was a very good chance, I had clear image of how I wanted the design, but it was kind of difficult to get the effects.
